Welcome to Wolfhound Fantasy, a highly detailed 64x64 texture pack with entirely hand-created textures. This is a variation on the original Wolfhound. This pack happened when I realized just how much I liked silver, purple, and shiny things. So. Many. Shinies.

This doesn't look like default Minecraft!
It's not supposed to. Wolfhound Fantasy brings a new theme to your game, giving you a totally different look without installing mods.

I've relaxed my standards on what you can and cannot do with this texture pack because I'm making this for the community and I want the community to be able to use it and benefit from it. There's no advantage other than ego-stroking to keep it exclusively to myself. Just don't claim it as your own.

And make sure you're following the TOS of anywhere you use it.

Just an update, I have not given up on this pack, there is just more to be done than I thought, I will also try to get some of the textures for the upcoming 1.8 update as well. Not sure when it will be. I will however post an update once I have at least finished the horses and fixed a few issues.

Guys, WE DID IT!

Mojang officially released a screenshot (https://mojang.com/2...napshot-13w41a/) showing colored glass implemented and fixes on the transparency issues they were having before. I can say with confidence that if it weren't for all your support for this topic, there's a good chance that colred glass wouldnt have even been included in this snapshot. For that you guys can be proud to be apart of something big, something that could change the way Minecraft feels forever. Thank you for all your support! And thank you Mojang for putting up with us and taking the time to implement our suggestion! :3

However, its not over yet, with the addition of colored glass, there is so much more we can do with it. Adding colored glass could be the beginning of big additions such as colored light in the future; So i will be changing the title of this topic to Colored Light!

Due to this topics' popularity I want this topic to act as an outlet for the communities' ideas and opinions on the topic of colored glass and its implementations in the future. So everyone, let us move on to the next step of our suggestion topic and help make a difference!

[NOTE]Colored light and glass is something I believe all minecrafters should be able to enjoy with each other without the midleman or knowledge of mod installing. So for that reason, this suggestion is directed towards vanilla. We do however welcome mods here since it's said that "Colored light isn't possible." -_^

Color Glass Blocks & Changing The Color of Light

Colored Glass and Colored Light are features I have wanted to see in Minecraft for some time. I wanted to see these features implemented so bad that I have come up with some ways it could be used in the game; it would greatly increase building potential and the ability for a player to customize an atmosphere by modifying the color of light. Based on my knowledge working in the game industry as an indiegame digital artist, I know that the impact something like colored glass and light would have on minecraft would be more important than most people know. In fact, it may even be safe to say that even Mojang underestimates the aesthetic importance of colored light and being able to manipulate it.
Here is a little diagram that briefly explains my proposition:

You are correct, this is not the first topic on colored glass, nor am I saying it is. The 'Original' tag in the title is referring to this topic and it's contents specifically. On several occasions, I came across my topic copied directly into Redit and other online blogs; without any sort of credit to the images and content. As the images in this topic were created from scratch by me, copying this topic would be considered art theft.
So to answer your question, the Colored Glass! topic is labeled as original because it is, the original.

Is it possible to change the color of the light?
Yes. Difficult, but possible. It used to be quite easy to light blocks with individual colors in early versions of Minecraft, but with the current light system this is no longer the case. It would require additions to the light system, the renderer, the map file format, and the network protocol. (A technical proposal can be found here, behind the cut.)

Will it cause lag?
Yes, unfortunately the addition of colored light will lower your frame rate. How much? This is hard to predict until someone actually tries it on a variety of hardware, but there's no reason to believe it will be anything drastic. It will also have an impact on memory use -- 64 KB per unpacked chunk to be precise. And of course the color information will have to go over the network somehow. If necessary, it would be possible to add an option to simply ignore the color information, and keep the current system where all block lights have the same yellowish color.

Yes, there are some mods for colored glass and there are older mods that have colored light implemented into MC. Here are just a few of these projects:

• Kovu, a follower of this topic has been working on a colored light prototype. wheather he is doing it with the current minecraft engine or not is unclear but if it is, this proves that colored light is indeed possible with the current lighting engine. it may just need some performance updates. -_^

"I don't like colored sand because it would add too many new blocks to MC":
I added colored sand as an option for crafting colored glass because it would kills 2 birds with one stone. It would solve problems for people wanting colored glass and people wanting more color variations in standard blocks such as non-burnable, gravity, and stairs/slabs. The colored sand idea actually wouldn't require any new blocks or textures at all. The reason why, is because of how it could be programed. Much like how the biomes change the color of grass and leaves, both can wool and sand. Thus all blocks or future blocks that are craft able from sand or wool could be done in the same way; being colored entirely in code and decreasing the textures needed for the blocks. This solution would obviously require a change to how entities work but it would make way for limitless amount of colored items much like how leather armor works.

Now you may still be thinking, "well, that still doesn't fix the items being displayed in the inventory" actually it wouldn't be much of a problem since all of these items are just as hard to craft, having an inventory full of different colored sandstone blocks and the like, is only the fruits of your labors; having to collect dies, making cored sand and crafting them into stone. If what you are worrying about is the creative menu being overly crowded; this also wouldn't be a problem since the 1.3.1 update that added an improved creative mode inventory with
categorized tabs for various items/blocks and a search menu. If more colored blocks are added, they could simply just be added into to their own tab with would be extremely useful for pixel art artists and the like.

If you are still unsatisfied with colored sand being a step in creating of colored glass, we have discussed other options as colored sand is only a suggestion. Please look at "Cool Ideas by you guys" above for more information.

Easier yes, but wouldn't make much sense. Colored sand would mimic how real colored glass is created and it would open up more opportunities for new blocks using colored sand; including colored sandstone steps. Also, considering the "special properties" of colored glass, I believe it should be slightly harder to craft instead of simply adding color. with that said, I do not intend to say my crafting proposition is the best solution. In fact there have been many great alternative suggestions that have been made here. So keep thinking critically, innovate on existing ideas and give us some great suggestions!

Yes, in fact we even heard back from Mojang on the topic; Nathan Adams also known as Dinnerbone from Mojang stressed that they have indeed been noticing the feedback on colored glass from the community. He also stated that colored glass is indeed possible and hinted that implementation of colored glass is not a "no"; which is exciting news.
Unfortunately, he also informed us that colored light is impossible on a large scale with the current lighting engine. However he also stated: "The lighting system is extremely broken and needs rewriting" this could mean that there is still a chance, if re-written, a new lighting engine may be able to support colored light. But this is uncertain.

So basically what we can assume from all this is:

1) colored glass is very much possible in the current version of Minecraft; except it wouldn't allow other transparent textures to be seen through the glass (much how ice and water works in MC) and it would be difficult to ad a Z-buffer without having performance issues on slow platforms. This may not be much of an issue as most people will not have a reason to blend the colors of glass by stacking and though not completely transparent, it may look ok anyway. however I feel if a z buffer were added, perhaps there could be a toggle in video settings to turn off z-buffering for those who are playing on slower computers. Dinnerbone also hinted that the implementation of colored glass into vanilla is neither a yes or a no... so, I wouldn't give up on it just yet, guys. -_^

2) There are mods that have colored light implemented in versions of Minecraft before the adventure update. Check out theoneandonlyflexo for more info!

In the mind of a "Modder" (Not really a modder, they just copy the code) This goes on as they create yet ANOTHER Ore mod.

"Hm.... I need to think of all the ores I know of and put them in Minecraft, so I can gain fame and have bragging rights of having an original idea! Well, I can add Cobalt... Yes... Cobalt sounds nice. I think the community is too stupid to know what Cobalt is made of and how it is made, so I'll just make it spawn randomly like Iron around the world. OHOO! Yes! I can add the Runescape ores as well! Maybe I can call this the "Runescape ores mod!" Wait.... no... since I have Cobalt I can't do that... Well! Let's add Runeite, (I'll just add the ITE at the end of it so it sounds different) as well as Adamantine (Yep, adding INE so they think it's not from Runescape) and Mithril (Bah, this doesn't need any fancy endings, the community is too stupid to realize). Well! Now that I have 4 nore ores that no one has ever heard of, let's add in some weird ones that I actually made up, but really got the idea from another source. Yes! I can make dragon ore! I like dragons, so I may as well make an ore, and texture it to look dark and sinister!"

Worst thing in Minecraft is the majority of modders. The sad thing is, the majority of modders can't make a decent mod.

Digging anywhere between layer 5 and layer 12 will yield identical results as is shown in this graph of where diamonds are actually located in the game...

Since the distribution of diamonds is very nearly identical the only thing that really matters is which layers are the easiest to mine.

On layers 1-10 the game fills all natural air spaces (caves) with lava by default, so anytime you dig below layer 11 you stand a much higher chance of running into the side of a lava pool. Dealing with lava flows is dangerous and time consuming and should be avoided where at all possible in order to achieve maximum productivity.

Many people think that more diamonds are generated near lava, this is not true, it only seems that way because when exploring lava caves diamonds are sometimes exposed on the surface of the cave. Here are two pictures, one shows where the lava is located while the other shows the diamonds in the same area. Do you see any clusters of diamonds bunching up near the lava?

Diamonds are distributed totally randomly throughout the entire map, the presence or absence of lava has no effect on their generation. (In fact lava actually replaces diamonds that might have been generated where the lava pool was formed.)

All of which leads us back to the question, where is the best and most labor efficient place to mine diamonds? The answer is quite obvious even though many players out of shear contrariness refuse to accept it as true. You should mine with your feet in layer 11 and your eyes at layer 12.62, you will achieve statistically identical results to what you would mining at any other level while staying at the surface level of the lava pools.

Mining at layer 11 & 12 allows you to simply use a water bucket to turn the surface layer of the lava to obsidian as you move forward and to explore the interior of the lava caves as they are revealed. Digging lower forces you to go around many lava pools and deal with lava flows released by accident while not returning any increase in diamonds found for your efforts.

Branch mining (It isn't called strip mining! Strip mining is when you "strip" away the surface of the world! Like what most people call quarries.) is the most efficient method as it reveals the most block surfaces for the least amount of blocks mined. There are several different methods favored by people for branch mining as to how to create your tunnel configuration but they all have one thing in common.

That being that for each two blocks mined you reveal the faces of six additional blocks, so digging parallel 1x2 tunnel branches two blocks apart from each other reveals the faces of all the blocks in your two layers along with many of those in the layers above and below you. There is only one other method of mining that will yield comparable results to branch mining when comparing the number of diamonds found per block mined and that is cave mining.

Finding caves that go down to the 11-15 layers and mining exposed diamonds does result in collecting a few diamonds that are already exposed on the surface without having to mine many blocks. However it is very hit or miss to locate them and not that many large caves are found that go all the way down to the lava level. Also keep in mind that while branch mining at 11-12 you will still find these same caves and can and should explore them thoroughly up to level 15 in case they have any exposed diamonds.

This question has been asked and answered repeatedly on this forum and even though the only correct answer is to branch mine on layers 11 and 12 many people have their own pet theories. The fact that these theories have no objective evidence to support them does not matter to them, they have concluded based on their own personal intuition that their method is superior.

It isn't, but you you will never convince them of this so these threads get made time and time again and will continue to be made, always getting many different answers. There are some people that simply can't be convinced of the truth.

Ender chests are good as sort of a safe deposit box in SMP as it's pretty much the only truly foolproof way to prevent theft, especially on vanilla servers. But in Single Player they're also good for if you want to have multiple bases around the map, you can put some building materials in the chest and then you'll have easy access to them when you reach your destination.

Everyone knows that 1.8 Beta is when minecraft tore apart. There was so much division among the fanbase that ripples of its war still persist unto this day. The thing is, I was on the 1.8 side. I would roam these forums for quite some time, and I almost instinctively hunted down people that said that 1.8 had ruined minecraft because it angered me. People still do it, and for the most part, they're still wrong.

I liked the adventure update, I liked the hunger bar, I liked enchantments, added content, new dungeons, and even The End. I liked all the little things that everyone hated: swamps, snow golems, cookies, brewing and leveling. I was on mojang's side with all of it because I really think, and I still do, that it brought the game forward, and made it more interesting.

However, I did something today I don't normally do. I was in a nostalgic mood, so I wanted to find a map that I knew would be worth playing on. I instantly thought of Criswel, and his top-notch maps, and how he put so much effort into them that he blew everyone else's attempts out of the water. The world he made was so comforting, and personal, it wasn't just to show off, it was something he really enjoyed, and enjoyed experiencing. I found his boat tour, where the challenge is to circumvent his main continent, Minoa, and he personally said it was his best experience in minecraft. So, of course, I couldn't pass it up.

I took that boat tour, and it was a small odyssey for me. I didn't just want to travel the world and get it over with, I made it a goal to explore the areas where he had made small bases in. I almost cried, and I almost am now. It was like exploring my earliest stages of minecraft. The buildings weren't pretty, they were functional. I expected what I had seen in Criswelvania, but I instead ran across something more honest and pure, Criswel's actual world he played in. I was amazed, and in awe of the world generation, I had forgotten just how common, and huge that the mountains were, and how aesthetically pleasing the placement of all the trees were among the landscape which was alien and yet still inviting.

I found beaches. Not small ones, but beaches that were obviously beaches. I found a cove with sand surrounded by hills, hidden from view of the sea, but a beautiful spot to stand in. It almost made me want to build a house there, but I made it a goal to travel the world, so I got back on my boat, and traveled on. I found bases, half finished, and spawners, abandoned, scattered throughout the land. I looted his houses, and rifled through what was obviously obtained through much work and time... and fun.

I kept going until I finally got lost. I forgot to make a map, and I should have. I couldn't find my way back now, so I just kept going, and there was no more civilization in sight, but my, was it fun.

Then I saw something off in the distance that made me sad. A lone tree, a weeping willow, a swamp tree. this was the end of the map, the end of the rendered world, this was as far as Criswel explored. As my boat fell one block level into the newer ocean, I saw the flat, boring, and desolate world that minecraft is now. I looked back at the wall, a plateu which nearly touched the clouds, and wider than I remembered they could ever get. I realized that all these people weren't just upset for no reason. I was upset.

For months, I've hardly played minecraft at all because I can't find a place I want to build. It all just seems so boring now. It's flat, and lifeless, and it's sucking all the creativity out of me.

I love enchanting, I love the new biomes, I love all of the new features, and there isn't one I would ever want removed from the game. I miss the old world though. The new world isn't the same, it doesn't even compare. I'm sorry to all those people I insulted back when the adventure update went live. I'm sorry because I know why you were upset.

I'm upset too because they'll never bring it back.

Ever since The Collector and 2 Double Chests I have been very driven to accomplish some semblance of this goal. Filling a double chest with every item in the game is a daunting task, but in some ways, is not quite as bad as many imagine. Resource aquisition is my favorite aspect of Minecraft, and I feel I cannot build until I have a sufficient quantity of a certain item. There has been some demand for my to make my own thread on this subject for a little while, and I guess its not such a bad idea. I want to give credit to Arbitrax and Eleutherius for creating their original threads; I can never claim this was originally my idea.

The biggest difference between my final goal, and that of the makers of these inspirational threads is that I have never had any hope to truly achieve "a double chest of EVERYTHING". Maybe I'm a pessimist; certain items just sound SO unrealistic, I don't want to set my sights too high. In some ways, certain items don't seem like they warrant having. For instance, why make a double chest full of wooden shovels? I can make it at any time, it only takes 27 wood.

Some advanced items also seem like a waste of time. Using 3456 (the amount held within a double chest) of a resource is a very distinct possibility. Using 3456 jukeboxes, on the other hand . . . seems out of the question.

That being said . . . I'm not willing to entirely ignore these items, but in the name of not burning myself out, I have made a "moderate" list which will still be sufficiently difficult to achieve, without being completely out of the question. I will include excluded items in a separate list, as a bonus, but I will not feel driven to complete them until I finish.

I invite anyone to join me in this endeavor. There is no shame in trying, and then giving up. I myself have no intention of doing so.
