Well for a starter, even though I haven't learned java yet when I was learning, I just read the source codes from other authors. Understanding how they work is much easier compare to listening to someone who is in youtube trying to explain. Plus there are some instance wherein there are no tutorials of that particular things you want to do in your mod in which you will rely on other source codes of the author to help you. Understanding java has never been really much hard for me but I don't know when it comes to other people.
And did you realize that you are working with an advance mod (just to notify you). Also if there isn't src file then just follow this format that I will give because this is the path for the mod to show in eclipse: src\main\resources for resources and src\main\java\com\theMod\placeHolder\modName. (The names I've put doesn't necessary to match the one you will port with. In this case the folder is not existent so just create it.
I don't know about the gradlew runClient because I don't even use that. What you should do instead is check the errors first in that mod. Then if you cleared all the errors somehow then run minecraft by clicking the run client in the eclipse.
When I mean the src, basically all with it goes. If the resources folder you're talking about is from that mod, of course the src is one package so if you already replaced the generated src from that workspace, it basically already included that resources folder from the mod that you'll update
Get the src file(the src file is source)from the mod you wanted to update, then delete the src that is auto generated in your 1.9 workspace. Then replace it with the source code (src) you wanted to test with. Then enjoy.
Well I have an enchantment (Extreme Knockback) in my mod so doing this request is much more easier but still not easier than what I did in my enchantments but anyways lets get to the topic. The thing is that you have to create an event that basically overrides the default knockback of minecraft (correct me if I am wrong). So yeah it is still difficult but why do you want this anyway?
It depends on you yourself. If you ask me, my mod that adds 43 different enchantments has only about 150 downloads. For me, I will finish first my mod(as of now it is 0.3.0 BETA) by putting in fast updates and porting it to different versions of minecraft. Then if I reached the release version (1.0.0) then that's the time whether I will think if I will discontinue my mod or not. Look on the bright side, you got 10,000+ views already. Why would you stop your progress when you are already pouring efforts into your mod. If you ask me I got like 300 views + without someone showcased my mod. 10,000 views is already a big satisfaction to me.
Good news, I can release a 1.8.9 version though I haven't add anything yet because of porting stuff and real life interruptions. I shall release it after 2 - 4 days after. Stay tuned and have a good time guys.
Well I already updated to 1.11.2 for quite some time so I forgot already some great mods that died in 1.7.10. So far I remember is the mod witchery by emoniph.

Or you can get/take a source code from other modders and all you have to do is read them and understand it. If you fail to understand a specific part
of that code, you can always use google to search for it. Some people like this method and I am one of them.

Finally updated to 1.8.9. This update brings new armor enchantments though they might be OP.

I suggest millenaire mod though they don't really fill in some of your suggestions.

Because there are many mods that are too good that are mostly not updated.
