I too was wishing for a bigger boost up hills, these things are just anemic. I guess it would be cool to have a rollar coaster chain pulley system to pull carts up hill at a reasonable speed.

posted a message on The reimplementation of finite water?
I like the idea of finite water, yet another element to actually have concern for in survival. I don't like 'infinite item farms' anyways, in fact it would be cool if mobs didn't drown, but I know there's probably a lot of issues that could occur with that and better solutions.

Remove all mods and redownlaod the server software. Don't add any mods.

    It's a vanilla server.

I just started up my server myself and ran into these every five seconds. Most likely going to dissapoint you because my situation doesn't apply to you but the server was connected via wireless. Switched to Ethernet and bam, it runs awesome.

    multiplayer's too buggy.

That was my position, and then I made my very own SMP server out of the blue. It's surprisingly not that bad, even to my standards.

Well, I made a server not even a week ago, so it's very much like new but we do have a small town setup, again, nothing massive/mind blowing. If you want to give it a try in case you don't mind a little shanty town action see my thread:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1025&t=303764

Psychosis, you can try too if you want.

You're not by a long shot.

I am aware, but just saying, this will help a lot of people.

Well, now it will kind of help players that don't read patch notes and browse these forums, for a little while.

posted a message on Building a high-speed Nether rail line to the Far Lands
I had this thought once; but it's pretty cool to see the numbers crunched as far as logistics go. But aside from all the fancy numbers and what not, good luck on actually building your tunnel in the nether on anything higher than peaceful. I tried doing a small bit of track myself (perhaps 192 lengths of track) in the nether and you'll be amazed at the amount of time wasted on dodging Ghasts. Not only that the Nether became so overwhelmed with Ghasts that my game would literally crash within 5~15 seconds of loading. I had to turn it on peaceful just to get the game going again. TBH, if you do this on peaceful, that would be much, much more of a realistic achievable goal (just imagine the amount of material not needed in this instance).

    Quote from Azathoth_Lives »
I don't think that the lightning will pose any threats to wooden structures, unless it's able to zigzag under cover and hit say the dry spot under a tree starting a fire that will spread before the rain can put it out.

I do want to see lightning strike a creeper and have it splode immediately.

Why not have it spawn five additional creepers instead? Or have it morph into a red creeper that spits tnt'esq objects at you. Now we'd be cookin with gas.

I highly doubt it will be a preferable source of propulsion compared to a side-booster.

If they get rid of the bug - you won't really have a choice. The side boosters will stop working.

That's the problem <.<. If they implement the boosters and brakes and break the bug(lolwut?) and it turns out to be an under-powered system, it will do nothing but make it so people have even more reason to not build tracks....I always loved the bug. Just made you think about the layout as you made it to account for the bug. And was always interesting to see how all of us could make huge subway systems even with just the bug for function.

So it'll either be fine, and it'll propel things at the same rate, and work fine, or it'll be a shitty system like powered minecarts, AND we won't have the boosting system to fall back on....I'll be expecting the latter situation. Would be nice if the former is how it happens though *shrug*

EditPS: And needless to say this will be one of the updates that I will be backing up my 1.4 for....Cause if they make us unable to use the bug without an equally powered or nearly the same powered system, I would rather sit on 1.4 until they fix it(unfix it?). I have far too much rail systems in my worlds for transportation to have them break the system it uses ><

Says it all right there. You basically have your own little personal agenda to tend to. Don't be so self adsorbed and deal with the reality that you put all your eggs in the 'bug' basket and now you might lose it all. I do agree that powered mine carts need a fairly substantial improvement in speed. Not once have I used minecarts to actually bring minerals to the surface (which is self conflicting with the massive inventory space any given character has, really what's the point of storage carts?).

posted a message on How did you know minecraft?
I used to play EVE online (stopped sub at the end of 2009) but still lurked the forums (glad I do). The topic came up before awhile back and I didn't really look into it. Time goes by, perhaps weeks, maybe a month and the same thread pops up so I take a look at it which lead to the video of 'how to prepare for the night' type deal. I bought it when it was £10 I think. I stopped playing months ago but may come back to it when I get bored with everything else.

Some kind of a goal to strife towards.

Yes, building stuff is fun. But you can only create so many fortresses before it gets old.

Agreed. I don't even play anymore, there's really nothing left, the magic is gone, but at least I got my $13 worth, I've spent a whole lot more for a whole lot less. I'd like to see harsh weather, like a tornado that can rip up the land, including buildings, and scatter material about the land. Perhaps heavy rains that creates pools of water or randomly place water sources to cause flooding. A mob that can destroy blocks (without dying) and have some type of chance of getting you inside your residence. Maybe add a 'Last Stand' mode where the world generated is as big as far as you can see in any direction from your spawn point. Within this micro world no beds may be placed and you're guaranteed enough resources to accomplish certain objectives that are scaled by points "create full diamond armor set - 9001 points" etc.
