I have also have experienced the falling into nothing on occasion when starting new worlds. Most often I find there is jungle near by when the world finally finished loading. I am currently using pre-3.
Very Happy. I think the update suits my play style very well. I play mostly survival, usually on normal, but also like to build structures that are nice to look at and not just a hole in a hill or a box made out of cobble. I've been know to put down paved roads connecting my bases and any villages I may find along the way. If I'm really bored I may even light all the roads and build houses for no other reason than to add some atmosphere to the setting. So yes, I am happy with this update.
The one thing I don't understand is why new blocks can't be made into slabs and stairs. Ehh, can you say Mod?
