    I here that, man. The more I think about it, the more I think it's a better idea. You want to see what's more popular, you go to the comments section. You want to see what's new, you go to the downloads section. Both purposes are served that way. For that matter, most pack makers link their packs in their signature, which should help with views. If you make something good, you're actually more likely to be noticed this way by people.

    And after all, this is still a forum. Discussion will still happen. The problem with other places is they're not forums. That's why the discussion doesn't happen there like it happens here.

    I must say I feel that splitting the download thread and the comments thread to be somewhat counter-intuitive, as the way it is now encourages more discussion on the pack. However, I get where the idea comes from, and I sometimes wish it were easier to find new packs, too. It could also make it easier for mods to see if new packs are breaking the rules or not. I can't say I'm really against the idea.

    I would like to know, where does everything about texture packs that isn't a pack itself go? Things like tutorials related to pack making, brainstorming, contests/challenges, and requests?

    As far as the idea towards splitting up texture packs by resolution goes, that one I don't like too much. I usually use a 64x pack, but occasionally I run across other resolution packs I like the look of, too. That's much less likely to happen if they're divided like that when it comes to me, and I doubt I'm the only one. Plus, what about packs that support multiple resolutions? That seems to be becoming more prominent nowadays, and nobody who supports splitting up packs like that has answered my inquiries thus far.

    Edit: Felt like I should comment more on the whole division between the downloads and comments. A problem that springs to mind with that is basically complete packs that only need updates every time Minecraft updates. There aren't very many, but those would be quickly forgotten about.

    What would be nice is if there were a way to sort posts by the date of the first post/last edit of the first post. I don't know how possible such a thing might be, though.

    Every good pack maker does pixel art, and anyone with a general knowledge of pictures knows that MS Paint does not support transparency. I personally love working in PS, but its not a pixel art program to me. Yes pixel art is done in it, but you don't hear much about PS without some sort of overlay or liquifying, etc.

    That first point is actually an opinion, and your point on Photoshop only mentions how most people use it, not what it can actually be used for (you don't need to use those things to use Photoshop). I will agree that good pack makers usually know some things about pixel art (they normally know how to work with smaller dimensions better), but that doesn't mean your pack has to be strictly pixel art to look good.

    Photoshop ≠ pixel work. Sorry if this is news to you.

    Photoshop has a pencil tool, man. It can most definitely be used for pixel art. Unless, that is, you think anything than the horrible interface for MSPaint doesn't count and layers are a work of the devil?

    Not to mention, not every pack maker does pixel art.

    Sorry if this is news to you. :smile.gif:

    Speaking of features to add, it would be nice if we could somehow save our options multiple times under the customize page and switch between those choices.

    Also, I still can't download from my customize page, which is really a more urgent thing that not having a new feature. I get a 500 error after it tries to load for a while.

    I thought I'd let you know about someone reposing this in another thread. I don't know what they're getting at, but still:

    Now that this is out of the way, I'd like to mention that after reading up the restructure, and reading the first post of this thread, which had properly outlined what was wrong with it in an non-hostile and polite method, I pretty much disagree with the restructuring and took the liberty to bring up this thread to some staff members that are/were online at the moment and do not like it as well. Citricsquid himself will be talking to BluesteelAU later about this and we will be keeping an eye on this thread. No, we are not out to sabotage you, because that would be counter-productive. No, we are not plotting a massive conspiracy under your feet, because that would be boring. Just because we don't say anything doesn't mean we're not talking about it right now in a hidden place somewhere that will never be mentioned, ever. And in the end, those who constantly shout only end up deaf, while those who always remain quiet have the sharpest of ears.

    In the meantime while you guys wait here about our next actions (especially the ones shouting THIS SUCKS RAWRGH THE ADMINS ARE HORRIBLE RAWRGH), feel free to link, discuss, and talk about alternatives in the meantime.

    It's alright. You've got to understand, though, that sometimes we get frustrated when we feel nobody wants to work with us, and the announcement about how things were going to be restructured in the next couple of days with nobody having asked us for input felt like a slap to the face. Most of us just want somebody to work with us on this, and we're not all opposed to change, we just want the changes to make sense for the different boards. (As previously noted, I only participate in the texture packs board. These changes make little sense for that board. I can't say how much sense they make for everywhere else, however.)

    As a side note I'm not sure the texture packs board has enough mods. There's Faust, but I've yet to see anyone else online (perhaps partly because of my schedule), and it seems like there's not enough mods to do the job. Perhaps that should be discussed after this, though.

    Well, I guess the admin who locked the thread didn't even get what was going on or something? The two topics were posted about twelve hours apart and were posted in both sections so that they'd let everyone know (most of us over at the texture packs sub-fourm don't frequent here too often). Even then, I don't see why you'd need to ban steelfeathers from posting if you did see the point of locking one of the threads, a warning would have sufficed (even if it wouldn't have been necessary in this case).

    Hopefully you'll consider Dante80's proposal. If not, though, I wouldn't be surprised to see people leaving over this combined with the restructuring. Nobody even asked us for feedback that I'm aware of, we're just trying to voice our opinions because we don't want to see the board become an un-navigable mess.

    EDIT: Figure I should actually comment on the changes. I don't know how they affect the other sections and won't speak for them. Dante80's proposal was only meant for the texture packs section. That's change I would support. However, what's been proposed is bad change when it comes to the texture packs section. As far as what goes for the other sections, perhaps they should attempt to organize a proposal of their own.

    Man, there are a lot of ideas proposed. A tl;dr isn't really possible if you want to get every point.

    Ok, its up. Remember guys, that thread is not for discussing the changes done, nor to remove exposure from this one. Only post if you agree with the proposal, and only post a small message saying that you endorse it. All discussion should be done in this thread, view the other one as a petition signing form.

    Thanks for posting that, I think it'll be a good sign of exactly how many people endorse this idea.

    To tell you the truth, most requests can be condensed into two categories.

    1. I need this pack/texture where steps/mobs are pirates/alien/cinderblocks etc etc......
    2. Are there any good packs out there?

    Almost none of the particular requests warrant an entire thread for that, and most of the threads made tend to become mere advertisement spots, where artists just copypasta their pack links to attact viewers.

    A solution to the problem as per the draft I made was to incorporate the requests/help threads into a general discussion subforum. A good way to do that would be to make a sticky thread in there where users could post requests inside and the community would provide help/feedback. That way, you both eliminate the need for a separate, less frequented subforum AND reduce the clutter in the main discussion section.

    I see where you're coming from. The whole reason I'd support a requests forum is because someone asking for a Naruto themed pack or something else just as stupid from bumping down actual packs and real discussion. I suppose a single thread would be just as well for that.

    Sure did.

    How about this then?

    Texture's
    -> Texture packs
    -> Tutorials
    -> Help
    -> Requests

    That isn't bad, but I'd make it more like

    ->Texture Packs
    ->Discussion and Tutorials
    ->Requests

    I'm not really sure what would go in the help section. Help making packs? Help installing and using packs? It's to ambiguous, anyways the former can go under discussion and the latter in specific pack threads.

    Dante80: Man, you're just on a roll. I agree with everything you're saying and you're putting it way better than I can.

    Edit: Add in an archive board for large threads. Dante80 says it's 100 pages where issues come up, I'd make it around 75 to be safe.

    We know nothing about your pack and can't see the other textures. We can't know how those would look best. Why would you even make this topic?

    Eh, it was just a suggestion to help with server strain. The whole thing is you make a new thread right before the thread gets too big and link to that in the previous thread, most people just copy/paste their first post and make a few edits if necessary. I'd think it would be really good for WIP packs/fledgling packs, simply because it'd be a good opportunity to redo the first post and start fresh with the latest screenshots. I'm not that attached to the idea though, just thought I'd throw it out there.

    Of course, it doesn't work at all without enough mods to lock threads on time.

    Also, Dante80, I have a small thing to nitpick about the date format. I'd make it day/month/year, and suggest something to break it up so it's not just a jumble of numbers. Having year first makes little sense to me, it would only change once a year (lol).

    Hey, steelfeathers, you think it might be a good idea to quote/link to Dante80's proposal in the first post and ask for feedback on how to improve it?
