Am I the only one who has noticed the blank slots are "cell-shaded"? This leads me to think he didn't actually do the work, because most people aren't insane enough to "detail" the blank slots of the terrain.png. It looks more like a photoshop filter to me, or something along those lines at least. Though I have to admit, it has a quaint appearance to it, reminds me a little bit of Little Big Planet. So I do kind of like it anyways.
Yeah it's a photoshop filter that puts a mosaic effect on any picture you have. -

Normally I would wait longer but with the new snapshot think it would be unfair not to unban everyone who died from death in hardcore. Users banned for...other reasons...will still be banned.
EDIT: I made a mistake when unbanning everyone. If you connect and you are still on the death screen please post here and I will fix it. I haven't time to go through the hundred or so player files to find which players are dead.
