Its a good game, though I prefer Oblivion and Skyrim (mostly for the setting and gameplay). I'm planning to give it another run once I'm done with Skyrim. Of course, I also want to give Daggerfall a go, though that has very awkward melee controls from what little I've played.

This. It had great gameplay, many active servers to choose from, fun game modes, and a ton of user made mods, mutators, and maps... and that's before you get to the total conversion mods.
The original unreal tournament was fun too, but I didn't play it as much as 2k4.
Scout: Keep moving, flank your enemies, pick your fights, use the shotgun at close range, pistol at long range. Avoid sentries. Aim your shots. Don't hold down the pistol trigger too long, or the bullet spread will become wide--bursts of fire are the key.
Soldier: Shoot at enemy's feet with rocket launcher (rockets have splash damage. easier to hit enemies with the explosion than the rocket), rocket jumping gives the soldier great mobility (at the cost of some health), don't forget you've got a pretty good shotgun
Demoman: Sticky grenades are your friends... they're controllable and great for taking out enemies in fire fights, laying traps, and sticky jumping. Pipe bombs are good for spamming tight corridors and taking out sentries.
Pyro: Flank your opponents, hit and run, torch teammates to reveal spies, extinguish teammates that are on fire with your air blast, and protect your teammates from bombs and rockets by air blasting them away with your air blast. Many pyro players like using the degreaser and axetinguisher (both of which are unlockable if I'm not mistaken) weapons in tandem.
Medic: Heal your teammates; dead teammates aren't useful. Since you're a target, keep moving and take cover (don't make yourself an easy target for snipers) and watch your back for spies. Hang back and build ubers when your team is having trouble pushing a position, then when you've got uber and teammates around you, you and a "power" class (heavy, soldier, demo) should push the enemy position. Many medics "pocket" (concentrate on) particular teammates, such as heavies (medic + heavy combo is very powerful in public servers), soldiers, or demos... just don't neglect your other teammates. Your heals can put out teammates on fire. Ubers with the default medi gun make you and your target invincible for a few seconds (with the kritzkrieg, your target does critical hits for a few seconds. don't bother with the quick fix medi gun). Don't uber enemy spies.
Heavy: Mini gun does the most damage at close range (at long range the bullets spread out, hitting less often if at all). It takes a few seconds to rev up, so rev up before a fight. Rev it up before going around corners. Use the shotgun when you don't have time to rev up. Watch behind you for spies and make erratic movements so you're a harder target for snipers.
Spy: Disguise as a member of the enemy team (try not to act too obvious). Use stealth to get behind enemy lines (and too escape). Take out high priority targets. Sap engineer structures (often its good to kill the engineer first, so he can't remove the sappers. Of course, you won't have much time to stab-then-sap by sentries, so make your stab count). Don't decloak next to people; they can hear you. Avoid paranoid spy checkers. Your team doesn't need more than one or two spies.
Engineer: Build buildings and support your team. Teleporters are great for getting rezzing teammates to the fray quickly (I'd argue teleporters are the most important engie building). Build dispensers to get metal and ammo, heal teammates, extinguish teammates, and provide a makeshift barrier to spies. Level 3 sentries are great for guarding an area (don't underestimate lv 1 or 2 sentries either!) as the enemy can't push until they've dealt with it (try to build it where its less vulnerable to rockets/stickies). Gunslinger (unlockable) mini sentries are great for offensive fire support and dealing with scouts. The wrangler is a useful unlock as well. Engineer nests refer to when an engineer builds his buildings close together and in such a way that he can guard his buildings against spies (though often vulnerable to demo spam).
Snipers: Pick off targets from a distance with head shots (though a body shot is better than nothing). Taking out a medic, heavy, engineer, or any other key player can turn the tide of a fight. Watch out for enemy snipers and take them out before they take you out (don't focus exclusively on snipers though!). Be on the look out for spies, as spies like to take out snipers because they're often an easy target (often away from the team in a hidden corner or something). Jarate (unlock) can benefit your team by making enemy players take more damage. Your team doesn't need more than one or two snipers.
General tips:
Communicate useful info to your team. Communication makes it easier to win.
Stick with your team and aid your teammates.
You'll get better as you play more and get a good sense of the game's flow.
Use health packs/ammo crates when you need to, though if you see an engineer setting up by an ammo box, leave the ammo box alone so he can set up quicker and help your team.
What happens in 2fort stays in 2fort. The map is okay if you just want to goof around, but it isn't a good map to practice on if you want to get better.
You can pick up ammo from the weapons of dead foes on the ground.
The problem with the Nintendo Wii when it comes to FPS is that the Wii doesn't have much of a selection when it comes to that genre. There's the Red Steel, Metroid, and Conduit series that are exclusive to the console and a Golden Eye remake, but other than that the FPSes on Wii are mostly inferior ports of third party games. Also, many multi-platform FPSes don't make it to the Wii.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Wii because its got a lot of good games, but it isn't the ideal platform for a first person shooting enthusiast.

Hmm... tough question, as I've got quite a few I've enjoyed over the years. Instead of choosing just one, I'll throw out a few names.
Halo series
Unreal Tournament 2004
Team Fortress 2
Perfect Dark Zero
Crysis 2
Tom Clancy Rainbow Six Vegas
Gears of War
Heck, I'll even throw in the Call of Duty series (even though I haven't played one since the first Modern Warfare)
Mercenaries
Crackdown
Saints Row (though if your parents don't allow you to play GTA, they won't allow you to play this series)
Red Dead Redemption (ditto)
L.A. Noire (ditto again. Though I'd recommend checking out the last three I mentioned when you're older)
Crazy Taxi

Best shooter of 2011 I'd give to Crysis 2.

If you select the DaggerfallSetup.exe link from: here, you can download Daggerfall with the dosbox packaged and already set up to run with Daggerfall.
Edit: For arena, select the ArenaSetup.exe link from here and it'll have the dosbox already set up for Arena as well.
