Gameplay > Realism. Also, like I said earlier, use the pillar jump technique and then place ladders on the side. We already have systems in place that work effectively.

Gameplay>Realism? Oh, So Minecraft shouldn't have gravity? Should the grass be purple? Should there be nudist clowns patrolling the land? No! All games take things from real life.

Ladders would cost more in resources and are annoying to make. Ropes are not. Caving has ropes! Ropes should have been added a long time ago.

Just because there's a substitute in the game doesn't mean it shouldn't be added. Take paths for example. Paths were already possible with gravel or cobblestone, but Mojang added paths made with shovels anyway.

So is mining for diamonds and grinding for wither skulls. Not everything has to be easy.

If you really do need to go that little bit faster when climbing out, use the pillar jump technique. You can add a ladder to it if so desired.

Ropes make far more sense than climbing up a waterfall. Ropes are commonly used in real-world caving. In a game where you mine, I would welcome this.

    How about just use water?

Climbing up water is painfully slow.

Support. This would make climbing down ravines less infuriating.

Everything on this forum is an idea. And it's okay to hate an idea. This is a suggestion forum. A suggestion is literally an idea of alteration.

Eeh... It's cool, but that's really the only thing it has going for it. There's simply no reason to spend the coding effort to make this happen. Either the world is too small to be entertaining, or too large for this to matter. As such, no support.

Off Topic: I read Property of Hate. Awesome! :D

The funny thing is the guys who were against eyelashes (Waahhh! Gender neutral!!!) are totally fine with beards.

Head hair would be cool IMO and could look very diverse. (Maybe like, poofy hair, long hair, short hair, tufts, bald?) Thinner lips would also be an option. (Do witches also have smaller heads? I can't tell. If so maybe that could be an option?)

Waaaaaaay early on in the thread someone else suggested the name idea, where a name shows up like a player name and it would read something like "Podzol the Farmer". My suggestion is create a series of random syllables and give each villager two, and let each villager pass down one of those to make the offspring's name.

You could include body types. Horses have different sizes, right? So you could have tall, medium (regular) and short villagers. Alternatively you could make the villagers more like the player bases and give them normal, skinny, maybe even fat for more diversity.

Maybe more than three skin tones? Or facial features like bush cheeks or moles? There's only so many things people can inherit from their parents, right? Maybe they could have different moving speeds or voices and that could pass down? (Grasping at a bit of a straw there... Not AS useful for long-distance identification, though possible... And very different coding than just visual changes, might change how villagers escape zambs or be too big to write in extra sound files?...)

I liked the concept of a single, wide, armband on the upper arm that you could dye the same way as a name tag, but that doesn't pass down. Scars would also likely not pass down, right? If we're looking at things that won't pass down... You could have hats (also suggested earlier) and that would make a big visual change. Different shoes would also be cool and could be biome specific (snow boots, normal, sandals, etc) and could help eliminate the whole biome specific race thing while still having biome specific traits. Colored belts, or belts with different buckles (maybe based on the minerals in MC like coal, iron, gold, lapis, redstone?) or designs (biome specific?) could be an option. You could give them a "cape" layer to their skin like players have and the capes could display patterns. Scarfs/ascotts/etc. Jewelry, like thick chain necklaces (maybe in MC minerals?) and bangles on the arms. Lots and lots of options there in clothing/non biological traits.

Maybe the villagers could sometimes hold different flowers like iron golems. Maybe you could give them a flower to hold and they would hold it.

I'm sure I am just scraping the top of the barrel here. It would be exciting to hear other people's thoughts. Also, it's ultimately up to you to decide... What would you like to most see and what do you think would appeal most widely?

(Also I want that image in your sig in my sig so hardcore right now.)

Nice ideas! I'll put them up there as soon as I can.

Wow, genuinely?? That's wonderful to hear! Thanks for being so... Reasonable! :D

If you need any help with redesigning textures or your graphics for removing facial hair and adding new imagery for whatever traits you choose to replace them with, please let me know. I'm fair handy with some graphics programs and I'd really like to support this thread and topic. I think villager heredity is a great idea and I want to do what I can to support the idea. I think it would be wonderful to have more diverse villagers and I think it's very practical to have a way to identify them.

Thanks. I'm working on it. What's some ideas? Head hair? I am thinking about thinner lips like the witches have. Maybe scars? I don't know.

Cheeri now has some evidence for that. Real life got me busy and the last posts were days ago. :P

Cheeri, the entire point is to try to use this thread to gauge interest and find problems. If we are not using this as a likely average for who supports this idea within the Minecraft community and who will be bothered by parts of it, what is the purpose of the thread at all? By your assumption, the whole entire rest of the MC playerbase could think this idea is bullox and the thread is useless and pointless. Since most averages for large populations are based off of multiple small sample sizes anyhow, I think it's likely to be close to average.

"Villagers already look pretty male, so they already have sketchy sex lives. Adding beards wouldn't really change anything."

I agree that they are pretty male, but I disagree that adding beards won't change anything. Right now they're typically seen as male male but at least SOMETIMES are depicted as female and are just barely squeaking by as being genderless as a result. Adding beards gets rid of any chance for that to be the case.

Since MC mobs ARE supposed to be genderless, why not add more typically feminine character traits instead of more male ones to bring them more towards being genderless? Or just add gender neutral character traits like arm bands, names, hair styles, or body types? Names could even be hereditary in their own way if they're composed of two random syllables because each parent could pass down one syllable to their offspring, like names are often passed down IRL. (Podzol X Fibal = Podbal or Fizol) The body types could also be hereditary. This would even ADD to the hereditary mechanics proposed in this topic.

Basically, you've got dozens of options for it to be BETTER for gender equality in minecraft (by eliminating all sense of gender from the mobs) and plenty of people who would prefer that and have what they believe to be a very good reason for it. Some of these ideas have been proposed by other people in the thread as well. Why not do it?

You know what? You're right. I'll update this. Give me a moment.

posted a message on Reason why are people complaining about new updates.

The theme did sort of change. I've been thinking of hosting a beta server again just for fun. The sad truth is the nostalgic people like me are what's wrong with Minecraft, us, the hierophants. I do miss the old feel and I can never quite get it no matter what version I play.
