    As for meandering away from your base and getting yourself lost, I think a compass could prevent it.

    For those of you who have played TES 4: Oblivion, think of the compass used in that game. The arrows on it could point to where you have placed land-claim flags which Notch already plans to implement. Though, flags not owned by you or your comrades shouldn't appear on your compass. Perhaps foreign ones would be added once you were near enough, or used them? I like the idea of trekking through the desert to find some city, and adding to to your "map" to use for later reference. Though this would be rather troublesome on multiplayer maps, I'd imagine.

    As far as singleplayer goes, I think we would need non-hostile civilizations or monster dens or something. What's the use of an infinite map if you have no incentive to go anywhere?
    EDIT: I hadn't read Notch's "There could be NPC villages and monster towns." comment.

    That doesn't seem to be a very good idea to me. I don't think server owners are going to want people to be farming resources on a peaceful server and having them transferred over to their extra-hardcore-difficulty maps.

    Plus this wouldn't be feasible without a ton of players willing to devote their time to it or some form inter-server scripting. The latter won't happen with official (non-custom) servers ever, I don't think.

    No, crafting is fine the way it is. 9­^2 would complicate things far too much, and wouldn't improve crafting in any way, in my opinion.

    A root block would probably be a good idea. You could harvest wood and have it regrow, and if needed, you could dig up the roots, and it would be gone for good.

    I can confirm that this occurs naturally. I think flowers are being placed on the location that the spawn bunker would later occupy; when the soil (On which the flowers were growing) is replaced by stone, they die off, leaving their placeable blocks lying about.

    ETA? What's an ETA?


    I think it stands for "Estimated Time of Arrival", but people use it to describe how long something will take. Eg.: the ETA on the download is about four hours.

    You guys are removing absolutely all the creativity from the game by wanting Notch to implament everything for you. Now everyone is going to have the same looking fireplace.


    I totally agree. We need a material (Such as wood) that will burn for a very long time though, to make fireplaces worth having.

    In the water.

    The floor of the spawn-hut was at sea level, and it wasn't attached to any solid blocks. A houseboat if you will.
