    finfinfin90 they fixed it -_-

That's missing the point. Sure, maybe this time they "fixed" whatever the cause was. But given the history of issues, it's rather likely to happen again. For a disgruntled former player to be able to erase a server's database (or for any external user to even have the ability to potentially access it) is a major security lapse. It's basic intrusion prevention. If simple things like that aren't blocked off, how can someone trust that there aren't still a number of other vectors yet to be discovered? Never mind the fact that a player was behind the latest breach. That implies lax security policies in general, not just regarding the technical aspect.

I think it's worth noting that this server was "hacked" a week ago and their database was wiped. I use quotes since the exact details of what happened were never officially addressed in any detail. Staff also was not very forthcoming as the server was offline for about a day before any acknowledgement of an issue was made. Backups apparently are non-existent so all the data stored in the database is permanently gone. Regardless, their security is severely lacking and neither I (nor anyone else) should reasonably expect whatever user data they have to remain safe.

Honestly, I'm surprised SQ manages to maintain the player count it does, between staff leaving players in the dark about the recent "hacking" (it's worth mentioning that similar events have happened in the past,) and the community in general being incredibly toxic. A recent thread by a member pointing the latter out nearly devolved into yet another dramatic flame thread. Moderators don't seem to do much to prevent this behavior and often partake themselves.

Actual gameplay is quite imbalanced and the server has gone through three iterations (with a fourth upcoming as a result of the "hacking".) Generally this involves a full reset where everyone loses their progress.

I'd like to think these issues will eventually work themselves out but at this point that's near impossible, a tree infested with ants can't do much to get rid of them, especially when the ants don't want to leave. The tree might not go away for a while, but it can't fend off the ants forever. You're better off finding another server to join that's way less dramatic.

I don't know. The forums look completely gone as far as I can tell. I've tried starquest.enjin.com, starquestmc.enjin.com, & starquestminecraft.enjin.com and none of them exist.

To all those complaining about the server being down, StartQuests Twitter says that it may have been DDoS'd

I doubt it. A DDoS wouldn't erase DNS records. Their domain points to their registrar's default page for new domains & theirs is not a new domain.... I get the feeling we're not being told all that's going on.

It looks like their DNS records were wiped, their domain points to their registrar's default page.... Something strange happened & it's troubling there's been no information as to what.
