posted a message on Redstone For Birds: Guide to Functional Redstone

So what is Redstone For Birds?

Redstone for Birds is my guide/tutorial for redstone (obviously!), with a focus set towards how to apply redstone to an adventure map for practical use. There are too many tutorials out there which either only teach the core basics, or only teach the logical side of things.

As explained in the introduction video, the main guide itself will be created with three areas in mind: What can you do, or affect with redstone? What can you sense happening with redstone? and how can I make my redstone connect these two together?

It is my goal to teach you to think for yourself, and apply different effects in ways never seen before, and to activate them by means other than lever or button. There are simple ways to make redstone understand what you want it to do, and have it act accordingly. By the end of the guide, you should be able to apply all of these areas to your own desires, and create beyond what you believed before.

How difficult will the tutorial be?

While I don't intend this guide for absolute beginners, the starting Crash Course videos will provide a basis for everything I'll talk about in later videos. I'm sure that any redstone engineer, of any level of expertise, will learn something they didn't know along the course of the tutorial. I'd say the best way to know is simply to start watching!

    Where can I start watching!

The Videos will be posted below in order they are uploaded. Feel free to subscribe to me on youtube, username: Featherbld, as that will alert you as soon as there is a new video. I'm also contactable on Twitter, and will give updates on progress there.

Crash Course: Dust (or Part I)

Crash Course: Devices (or Part II)
    " frameborder="0" autoplay="false" allowfullscreen sandbox="allow-forms allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups">

The rest of the guide is not complete yet. Never fear- I'm aiming for one video a week atm. Feel free to look back later for updates.

    Want to give input?

If you have any comments, ideas, suggestions to improve the quality of videos or other remarks, feel free to reply to this thread! I'll happily look into any ideas which might help increase understanding, or open up new areas in redstone tutorials.

I'm not really sure why everyone considers The Voxel Box such a great server. They're pretentious and egotistical, honestly.

I noticed that you had your app denied, so I just went and had a read. You said multiple times that "there is nothing that makes me special", and stated that you only wanted to join to build your Dante's inferno idea.

Make your app sparkle! Why would we want people who doubt their skills? We want to know that you can learn, and have tried to learn before. Put something about yourself in there too, we like personality just as much as a good build. You have three applications minimum to get in, and you've only used one so far.

Really sell yourself. We've only got so much space, and we'd rather share it with people who try than people who give up :smile.gif:

Check the e-mail that you provided when you filled out the app. There will be a message if it was accepted/declined. If there is no message, it's probably safe to assume it was declined.

Incorrect. We do not currently send emails. You can check your name, Here, but if it's still pending, you are likely on the maybe list.

The maybe list is well over a hundred now, and we can't go through it when we have hundreds of other apps coming in. Your best bet is to re-apply, as that will take you out the maybe list and back onto the new apps list.

hey I dont mean to impose but how long does it normaly take to get in

I dislike having apps waiting. Usually, I go through every new app daily, but yesterday that didn't happen. There are 73 new apps when I looked just now.

Just be a tad patient. Also remember, we don't send email notifications, go to theVoxelbox.com/guests to see if you were accepted or denied. If you have been neither in about two-three days, then you are probably on the maybe list :tongue.gif:

Sorry for double post, but what version is the server for? Because I'm running 1.9 pre 4...

It is version related, we are running 1.8.

Okay, I sent in my application last night, and I haven't gotten any response yet. I know it takes awhile since you get so many applications, but I was just wondering, did you get my application?

You, unfortunately, found yourself upon the fabled "Maybe" list. Honestly, this is the worst list to be on, as your app is neither denied nor accepted as far as you know.

It was read though. Your Imgur link does not work (404 error), which doesn't help. I'd suggest reapplying.

    With comment towards Hat:

I often talk in private chat when called to look at builds. Even more so, I am often invisible when checking out builds. Once before I was called by Fortunate King to look at a office, and I simply talked straight to the builder, and confirmed with Fortunate via private chat. As such, you cannot assume guests are always ignored if there is no response in main chat.

People CAN be ignored if for example, they ask for multiple people to view the build in a short space of time, or there are simply no helpers online.

I do thank you for your concern though :smile.gif:

And on another note, I'VE been ignored by a guest recently after I liked his build, But he continued simply jumping around his finished house.

I sended an application for the server almost 2 months ago.
3 days later I saw I got approved on the guest status but
I still couldn't enter the server. I read you guys have lots of applications so I waited patiently.
Today I still can't join. Could you please greylist me ?

Yes, you are greylisted. I've re-added you manually in case the system thought you were greylisted, but the server did not.

Also check that you are now running 1.8, and that the Ip is mc.thevoxelbox.com .

I have applied for your magnificent server but I'm wondering if in the high probability that I don't get in, I know you guys get lots of applications a day and not everyone can be a winner.

Will I get a reason why I wasn't accepted, ie. personal to my application or will it just be a generic you've been unsucessful?

    Thanks
    AL

I just went through them all, check up now. If you are denied, no, we are currently unable to give personalised denies. If you were denied, and you thought your app was very detailed, make sure any imgur links you make are publicly viewable. That's the number one reason an app will fail.

Also - If you have not been denied or accepted, then you're on the maybe list :smile.gif: Honestly the worst place to be, but that's how it is. Your app will be revisited at a later date.

posted a message on 9 Digit BCD Full-Calculator Progress Thread
Well, if my decoder posted above was made backwards (just reversing the adders and torches), it would do BCD to binary.

I'm pretty sure that's what is needed for this.
