Communication via IRC.
Having an IRC bot that prints the chat communication from a Minecraft Server live into a IRC internal $channel. At the same time, users within the channel should be able to talk back to server, by using a command (i.e. !say ).
This way, Admins don't need to idle on their Minecraft servers (especially if the have more than one), instead they could just idle in a their internal (staff only) IRC channel and have a highlight on "griefer", "/report" or what ever you wanna scream to get an admin back on the server.
: Bob says: hi
: Mike says: helle
: Mike says: Bob, ftw?!
: Mike says: could someone kick bob please? he is a **** griefer.
cola: you go?
fanta: !say hang on, i am comming.
: fanta (Admin) joins the game
: fanta (Admin) teleports to bob
: fanta (Admin) kicked bob
: fanta (Admin) disconnected
: pepe joins the game
: Mike says: not agian! plz kick pepe!!!
cola: !kick pepe
: pepe got kicked
Don't know how you wanna do that, maybe use "inotify2" and watch the server.log?

Jul 4, 2009Posted in: Legacy SupportQuote from Razorlance »I have the same problem, i.e. I can't connect to my own server, I have port forwarding on, I have updated the server properties with the port I want to use, yet when I use the external IP link generated when I start the server I cannot connect. I also set the verify names = false as suggested.
Is there any other subtle setting that's not explained anywhere, the readme.txt is pretty sparse and makes it sound straight forward! I'm only trying this so I can try using a map editor to make a custom map.
Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Also the link in Thi3f's guide when using port 25565 doesn't work for me, it's says I can't use that link any more.
Just two pots above you I posted your answer. Don't use the external URL. The external URL is only for your friends. You need to type this instead:
Somebody should really add this to the Wiki and fix the README file, because it's wrong (says 'sever' instead of 'ip') in there.

Jun 30, 2009But this way you could build a single 5x6 wall by pressing, holding and releasing, instead of klicking 30 times. That is an improvement, don't you agree?Posted in: Suggestions
Besides, this idea is not new. Major 3D Drawing/Modeling Software use the same idea. Its way faster building stuff.
Jun 29, 2009Posted in: SuggestionsQuote from Maart3h »you can make lines by Holding your mouse button lol :tongue.gif:
But you dont get a nice preview and it often happens, that you build more than you actually wanted.
but that would mean you would have to keep re-leasing the mouse button, which would just be clicking?
Yeah, you will not feel the different.
Jun 29, 2009Blocks should be created, when a user releases the left mouse button, not when he presses it. This way you could draw lines very easy, by holding the mouse button until the desired length is reached.Posted in: Suggestions

Personally I prefer "screen" instead of "nohup", because I can reopen the window agian.
Jun 28, 2009Hourly backups:Posted in: Server Support and Administration
type: crontab -e
1 * * * * cp /home/minecraft/server_level.dat /home/minecraft/backups/backup_`/bin/date +\%Y-\%m-\%d-\%H`
Actually, a shell script is needed. Don't forget to chmod it so it's executable.
Not if you escaped "%" (add \) within the cronfile.
