posted a message on Have you beat the enderdragon?
many times, including back when the boss was originally added during beta

it's not really a goal or anything, nor is the fight anything special, i personally just do it for the exp/removing the dragon from the end to make gathering resources there easier

    Quote from Barbershop666
    Starting with Kanto, from Pokemon.

Do you plan to build it in order? By that I mean, route 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., or corner-corner? And which version of the map will you be using to re-create it?

    OP,

Once you've finally finished this massive generator of everything generate-able, then what? Some friends of mine see this game as little more than building specific things and completing the Nether and the End(assuming their attention span last long enough to make it there). So, what is it that you plan to do once you have everything? When mining is no longer something you do?

I also must ask why you didn't just build it on the surface? Surely you're not going to be making buildings several hundred blocks tall?

posted a message on Who are the worst Youtubers in your opinion?
i generally don't like a majority of the let's plays that are made nowadays. they were pretty funny once upon a time, before the whole "let's play" thing got popular, but now i just find people annoying. out of the few i've bothered to look at(from links in this thread, defending their little favourites), all i see is underaged douchebags, extremely annoying voices, extreme elitist, or people talking about their day while they play minecraft.

the yogscast is popular because of the things they did before minecraft.

i don't get the appeal of ridiculously large wheat farms. but to each their own i suppose

this is an old survival world i played on before 1.3:

    the vegitable/fruit farm(made before potatos/carrots were added):

the mushroom farm down the latter on the right:

    the cacti/sugarcane farm:

    my pigs, chickens, and cows:

    and the sheep:

i see minecraft being re-written in html5, having significant amounts of game modes that change the feel of minecraft and how it's played, a proper ocean biome, and continued promises of a modding api

posted a message on Did the Terrain Become BORING? (UPDATE 6/5/13 - 1.7 is a biome update?)
god this thread is annoying. you people post too fast

as someone whose been here since "classic" was just called minecraft:

    1. old world generation was good
    a. i use to love the giant, steep mountains. when survival was introduced, that's where i often built my bases
    b. i hated how, even if you found flat land, it was either very small or ugly and in the middle of a wasteland
    c. everything was just one colour, and made it very boring

    2. new world generation is also good
    a. flat lands around water is a nice place to build a house
    b. there's still ridiculous areas of the map that i can't find a flat area
    c. shallow water is ugly

posted a message on mods that should be a part of minecraft
like others have said, optifine would be a great addition, but there would have to be a long guide explaining all of the features of it(not everything works on every model of gpu/cpu, especailly for our gnu/linux users)

i haven't been on this forum for awhile, but i use to have a mod that vastly expanded the lakes, rivers, and oceans. coral on the sea floor, for example. it added ~50 different fish and completely changed fishing, in a good way.

    posted a message on FOOD!?!?!
    Quote from Jcool
It seems every time I start a new world it is very difficult to find food.
that's strange, i typically have an abundance of food by the 2nd day. break grass, get seeds, make farm at a water source. these expand fast, especially if you're capable of killing a few skeletons in that first day.

    Quote from Jcool
I do not want to kill nearby animals as they will likely never respawn,
i'm not sure about the 'never respawn' claim, but there's typically 2-8 mobs per spawn. simply kill all but 2.

    Quote from Jcool
and it is impossible to start a farm in the first few days of the game as wheat does not grow fast enough especially without bone meal.
wheat grows stupidly fast, actually. i'd like to see that rate reduced a bit. by the 3rd day in minecraft, you can typically have a never ending supply of bread.

    Quote from Jcool
Fishing would require me to hit a cave with a spider in it on the first day or go through one night at least and kill a few spiders.
if you fear the night, spend it gathering supplies; so, when morning comes around, you can go loot monsters that died nearby.

    Quote from Jcool
Mushroom stew would only be likely if I spawned in a swamp biome.
not at all. dig an 8x8x8 hole in the ground(or build one above ground, whatever you like), put a few torches around to keep mobs from spawning, and grow mushroom trees with bonemeal.

    Quote from Jcool
Watermelon would require me to hit a mineshaft in the first day and acquire seeds,
watermelons have the ability to grow within seconds of being planted.

    Quote from Jcool
Apples don't drop frequently enough to replenish my hunger bar in the first few days, as there is lots of digging, killing, and tree-punching going on.
cut down one tree, make a crafting bench, dig 12 pieces of cobble. make an axe, cut down a forest before night. the game has been dumbed down to the point that you don't even need coal anymore, simply cook the logs with plans as fuel for torches. spend your night gathering cobble from wherever you decided to hide(preferably around your wheat farm, so you can maintain it throughout the night).

    Quote from Jcool
Bread, cake, and cookies are out of the picture without wheat.
cake requires you to have smelted your first 9 pieces of iron into buckets, and cookies require you to find cocoa beans. these aren't really logical options, but bread is definitely doable.

    Quote from Jcool
Should there be more food added to the game? Or should it be easier to get? I'd like to know what you guys think.
yes, i believe there should be more food added to the game. no, i believe it should be harder to obtain. food as it is is ridiculous. this is a survival game that has a hunger system: a hunger system with infinite supplies of food that take no effort to obtain.

wheat should grow slower, and produce much less seeds when harvested.
grass shouldn't have wheat seeds hidden in them, i believe wheat should be found growing naturally somewhere in the world to be obtained.
food heals too much hunger, or it goes down too slowly(i think it just heals too much, eating too often would be annoying)

posted a message on What music do you listen to when playing Minecraft
    Quote from Derrick

Yeah I enjoyed IronMagus responding like a condescending asshole and then listing a bunch of garbage music himself.
on the contrary, his post contained what little good music has been posted thus far(there's a few others, but i don't care enough to go get their names).

i typically just leave the game music on, if i play my own i can't hear the other ingame sounds. it helps me to be able to hear when things are walking near me, or hearing other monster sounds while in caves, etc

posted a message on Mushrooms And Bonemeal..
if you don't want to hunt for silk touch tools/mushroom isle to get that:

build a platform 8 blocks above the surface of the mushroom you intend to grow, 3x3(or 4x4, can't remember), then remove the vertical blocks leading up to it. this will remove the light/give enough space for the mushrooms to grow.
