posted a message on Standalone Server?

All I want to do, is be able to run a Win10E server on my network without having to have the game itself open 24/7. Is it possible (in theory) to "extract" the server portion of Win10E and run a server without the game part? Am I making any sense at all?

Just thought I'd share my Soundcloud. It can be found HERE. It's got a lot of Coldplay covers, and other random stuff. Most of them aren't full blown songs, but just renditions of songs I'd been working on. Most of them are just one-takes, so they do have mistakes, haha. That is all.

Not a copyright lawyer, but my understanding is as follows:

MAKING a parody is fair use of the original material-- by the person who made the parody.

Using someone else's parody is NOT fair use of the parody. You need the permission of the person who made the parody unless they've explicitly said you don't (e.g. a Creative Commons license.)

Using PART of someone else's creation may be considered fair use, especially if you're not making a profit, but using the whole thing is unlikely to be ruled fair use.

If you made a parody of their parody, that would be fair use. Just using their parody isn't.

Exactly my thoughts. In this case, I guess I'd have to get permission from the creator of every parody I wish to use. It's not as simple as obtaining a license like it would be with other music.

Your statement about modifying a work just so you can escape permission is dubious. I wouldn't do it.

Not planning on doing this. I was just wondering if I can use it without changing it.

The original music as far as I Know you don't need to get permission for.

    Why do you say this?

Parodies are air use. Its the reason why Dumb Starbucks was a thing.

But does this mean I can use the parody without changing it whatsoever?

I'll still wait until someone can confirm whether or not parodies are considered fair use, but what about getting permission for original music?

posted a message on Minecraft Parody Usage

Hello everyone! For quite some time, I've been wanting to create a Minecraft themed radio station, and this is something I kinda still want to do someday. However, my biggest problem has been getting permission from big parody creators to continue working on something like this.

So my question is, do I even need to get permission? Or is there some other way? Since these songs don't seem to be on licensing sites like BMI, I'm not completely sure how to obtain the rights to play parodies on an online station like this. The song Take Back The Night was featured on the Billboard tops for Dance music, so it must have been played on radio stations. How'd they obtain licenses for it? Some songs do have information saying that their music can be used for things like this, but what about the others? I'm not planning on making any profit from this. Not sure if that matters. Any help would be great!

    Hi there elfin,

I'm sincerely sorry to see that you had issues with your shared web hosting with us. In recent months, we have admittedly allowed web hosting services to take a back seat to other ones. I'm not afraid to admit the truth. We are currently planning on revamping our web hosting with more resources, a better setup, and better DNS control. As for the client area, this has been largely out of our control. We work with a very limited group of highly skilled web developers/designers, and the one who created our current web design and control panel/client area integration has been busy with college work. We are working with him to fix some of the issues that we are aware of, and will certainly take your complaints and concerns into account as we move forward.

All that being said, no tickets were opened on your account about any issues until exactly 01:31 and 01:25 am respectively this morning. We rely on our clients and community to report any issues and most certainly take negative reviews as a chance to improve what we can offer to other clients and their community members. Otherwise, we have received no reports of these issues or heard any similar complaints from other web hosting clients until today, but will certainly investigate further. We will be glad to look into any DNS or transfer issues further, and if we can't keep you with us, I'd like to personally wish you the best of luck with your website and projects.

Thank you and I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

    Wyatt T.

    Head of Operations

I do appreciate your cooperation thus far, and thanks for understanding :) Ticket response times were pretty fast, and I've gotten the help I needed. I hope to see a better working client panel soon!

    posted a message on Ready2Frag.com | Now just $4/GB | Semi-Managed Support | SSD | DDoS Protected

I rented a domain and webserver from Ready2Frag, and I must say. I wasn't impressed. At first, everything was fine. But then I decided to switch to a VPS rather than a web server. No big deal. I should be able to just cancel my webserver, and change my DNS settings, right? Wrong. It's been 3 weeks, and my DNS settings still haven't updated. Ok, so now what? I'll just transfer my domain to another site, and forget about R2F all together. So I went to disable the registrar lock. It said it was disabled, so I tried transferring my domain. I waited another week, and the domain still hadn't transferred. Now when I go back to disable the registrar lock, it says it's enabled, and won't let me disable it. At this point, it looks like my domain is locked onto Ready2Frag, and a web-server that no longer exists. On top of all of this, during this time, my web-server expired. Which means I lost my entire site.

I should also mention that their client area seems to be pretty buggy. Buttons don't work, links take you back to the homepage, and menus don't appear when they should. It's just all-around, a really bad experience to try and configure anything.

I'll post back about support. So far, I've noticed that their live support is almost never online. The only other way I can see if contacting them, is through a ticket. There's no phone number, or Skype I can try. So, I've gone ahead and sent them a ticket. It's only been about a half hour. I'll post back if/when I get a response, and hopefully everything can be sorted out.
