    Problem with Iron Sky

Ahhh... why do I always have problems with farms...

Yesterday I finished the Iron Sky. Although I am pretty sure I built everything exactly like in Hax52's tutorial, the farm didn't work the way it should. While the farm was resetting, it spawned 2 golems on the East wing (don't know why... but that might be a problem?) and then spawned no more golems, even when it was done resetting.

Please help me with this, I used to have bad experiences with big iron farms in the past so I'm pretty worried right now :(

I have a little note for you guys too : high school in Vietnam is right around the corner now, so I'm having less and less time for Minecraft. Therefore you should expect fewer updates for about 2-3 weeks, but things will probably get back on track after that.

Also, thank you Fyqcraft for suggesting the Iron Sky :) Though I'm currently having some issues with it but building it was a lot more enjoyable than building the Titan, as I love working with redstone (although I'm not good at redstone) and because I really don't like the tedious process of ''place door-wait 6 seconds-break door''

Your welcome. I would guess I am knowledgeable about which ones should be built depending on one's world and playstyle, but as far as creating them myself or troubleshooting goes, I'm not so knowledgeable there.

Hey Fyq are you sure the Iron Sky works in 1.9? After test-building the 16 village farm and the Iron Bakery in creative mode I felt like I could go a bit crazier, so I tried downloading the Iron Sky, but the rates were quite bad (125 ingots/hr). The Fe2 works pretty satisfactorily though, so I might consider building that if I can't get the Iron Sky to work.

EDIT: I got the Iron Sky to work! I accidentally broke some redstone while I was figuring out how the mechanism works and killed the farm. Now it's time to build it in my survival world B)

I assume you want to build a huge iron farm in the future after building a smaller one to start off. I would suggest a 32 village iron farm, and for it to be built in the spawn chunks. You'll have iron pouring out your ears. I am not sure if the one I'm about to give you works in 1.9, but it should.

Here are two 32-village farms (the first produces 1700 iron/hr, the second I think 1300).

Also, if you want to go a bit smaller you could build a 16 village farm which is perfectly fine even for multiplayer (that is, if you don't find yourself constantly using iron. I usually craft tons of pistons and hoppers and tripwire hooks, as well as build stuff out of iron blocks and use them for scaffolding, so naturally I need much more iron).

Furthermore, if you want to build an extremely large iron farm just for the heck of it (which is what I did in my singleplayer world...actually, there is one project that such a large farm is necessary for that I want to do, but other than that this sized iron farm is far too big for a singleplayer world), then I suggest going with a 64-village iron farm. Here's the one I built, and it outputs 2600 iron/hr (in the video he mistakenly says 3400). I don't know if Tango's awesome titan got an updated, working version in 1.9 yet, but note that I always recommend building resettable iron farms any day over a non-resettable on like the Titan, which judging from your survival journal I'm pretty sure you know why already ;) .

Lastly, just for fun, I'll share some extreme iron farms you'll never want to build for singlplayer and even large servers (plus the larger the iron farm the more lag it'll cause). The absolute highest I recommend going even for a large technical server is 128 villages. 256 and higher is just out of control. Also, not sure if all these work in 1.9...

    128 Villages (4600 iron/hr)

    128 villages (5200 iron/hr BUT more expensive)

    256 villages (10,000 iron/hr)

    1024 Villages (40,000 iron/hr couldn't find a 512 farm that is 1.8+)

    1024 Villages (50,000 iron/hr)

    2048 Villages (75,000 iron/hr current biggest)

Thanks for giving me lots of choices. You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about iron farms :)
I think I'll go with the Iron Bakery, as I'm not one to use a lot of hoppers and pistons and I don't build with iron blocks

Hi everyone :) duythemcer is back bringing you another update.

Day 34: West side development part 2!

Let's continue developing the West side! First, I added in the interior of the new part of the Castle, as you can see right here

Since this branch follows the so-called natural style, I decided to utilize the same style for the interior. It turned out well, in my opinion, except for the leaf wall :P
Next I went on to building a melon and a pumpkin farm, both are automated and based on Etho's pumpkin farm design in Ep.435 of his Let's Play series. The reason why I chose this design is because a lot of pumpkin/melon farms out there use redstone clocks and BUDs, and Etho's farm is actually the first one I've found on the Internet which uses daylight sensors. Another reason is that I've always wanted to make use of the daylight sensor to its full potential (but I'm not smart enough to design contraptions with daylight sensors :P )
Building both of the farms was quite straightforward. In fact it only took me 2.5 hours to finish both farms and their collection systems (considering my poor redstone building skills and also redstone resource management skills)
    Here is the melon farm

I used some left over building blocks to decorate the farm.
And here is the pumpkin farm. I'm not sure how to decorate this farm yet, cause I certainly don't want to repeat the same thing I did with the melon farm, but no other idea has come to my mind.

Both farms worked fairly nicely, yielding ~10 stacks of melon slices and ~2 stacks of pumpkins after 1 hour, which is not the best rate, but I don't really need a lot of melons and pumpkins now anyways.
After that came the building of pathways, a bit of terraforming and overall beautification of the landscape. The process took me a crazy lot of time, mainly due to my bad estimation skill, so I kept running out of building materials and had to run for more.
    And... here is the result

How do you guys think? I made spruce/coarse dirt paths, another path combination I've always wanted to implement. I also built some custom trees and scattered spruce fences, cobblestone walls, leaf blocks, blue orchids, rose bushes, lilacs, as well as wheat and carrot crops all over the place.
Here is a screenshot of the path to the left

... and a screenshot of the path to the right (please ignore the bed :P )

I also built an automated chicken farm in the underground base, this time I put in about 300 chickens and it is much much more efficient than the one I built in my spawn base. So far the farm has produced 44 stacks of chicken

So that is all for today everyone :) This update took quite a long time to come out because I've been playing modded Minecraft a lot so... no time for vanilla :P , but hope you've enjoyed reading it, and be sure to give me some ideas on how to decorate the pumpkin farm.
    Bye bye guys :D

Such a nice looking castle. It must take a long time to build stuff with all that detail. I'm guessing you used to play in a creative world a lot? By the way, you really should update your iron farm from the iron titan. I recommend you build something that is resetable, like this one:

Although if you don't want to build that you could always make at least 8 single cells.

Thanks for the suggestion on the iron farm :)
In fact I have never been such a keen creative builder. I used to build a castle and a cathedral in Creative mode, but other than those I don't think there has ever been another creative project which provides me with enough motivation to finish. What I have been seeking for during my 3 years playing Minecraft is the sense of accomplishment you get after building a grand construction, and only building stuffs in Survival mode can give me that kind of feeling. That being said, I still feel very satisfied when looking at my Creative builds, it's just that... without all the hazards and hindrances that come with Survival mode, the satisfaction can never be as great.

Hi everyone! It's time for another update :)

    Day 33: West side development

After building the Fishing Hollow I wanted to beautify the area of land above it. Here is how the area looked before

Pretty ugly right? I really really hate the coarse dirt just scattering all over the place.

The beautification process starts with building a fence (or hedge) around the rectangular hole I dug out for the Fishing Hollow

This is a style of fence I've always wanted to build in my world, and finally now I have the chance to incorporate it into this area.

Next I mined out a big chunk of the mountain right above the entrance to the farming area (you can kinda see the entrance through the glass blocks I used as the ceiling)

This is to make room for another part of the Castle

Here is me laying out the basic frame of the build

Then I built walls around it and added in glass windows. Same window design as you can see there, but I'm using red and orange stained glass to match the red theme.

As much as I love building, I have to say sometimes building too much just makes my brain go a bit crazy. Just look what I was trying to dye! :P

I chose to use red clay blocks for the roof, again, to match the red theme, but I realized my clay supply wouldn't suffice so I went to the Mesa biome for more. This Mesa biome is actually the first one I've managed to find just by exploring, not using any external tools. OMG I'm so proud of myself :D

After a while building this is the result

Now, I have a very precious building tip for you guys, that is : Don't use TNT to pillar up to fix your ceiling! Look at what I did here :(

Yep, I blew up my work :( I was using TNT to pillar up to fix a block on the ceiling when I saw a zombie targeting me right at the bottom of the TNT pillar and quickly used my bow (which has a Flame enchantment) to shoot it. But I missed, miserably missed, and the arrow hit a TNT block and ignited it. Things happened after that, you can probably guess yourself :P

The explosion was a huge setback, and I was almost tempted to rebuild the whole thing in Creative mode. Thankfully I was calm enough to remind myself that I used to rebuild a whole broken Iron Titan (which is now broken again :( ) , so that minor misfortune was no big deal :)

Once all rebuilding had been done, I carried on building a tower and some fancy walls to cover the ugly mountain side, and this is how thing turned out :)

Sorry for the beacon beam somewhat obstructing the view, I needed it there to provide me with the Jump Boost effect. When working with a lot of fences and cobblestone walls, Jump Boost can be huge time saver.

Here is another view, from the front gate to the Castle

So that's all for today's update, hope you guys like the new addition to Castle as much as I do. I'm sorry if you guys find the recent updates a little boring (cause most of them only feature aesthetic building). Next update will include some automated farms as well as some terraforming of the West side, so stay tuned for that. Bye bye guys :)

Hi! I'm a fan of Etho too. Really glad to find like-minded people like you :)

You can try putting trapdoors on the sides of the glowstone blocks and some kind of slab on the bottom (I think Etho does so too :P)

I really like the layout as well as the color scheme of your nether base. However, I do think the walls need more details to it, and also I don't like the 'floaty' staircases. If I were you I'd add in some supports for the staircases. I think that'd make the build look more realistic.

Your building skills are amazing. You are the user that inspired me to start my own Journal. I'll probably never be as good as you, but I started working on something in creative that I might build in survival that looks pretty, well, detailed. Also, I just learned something new! I didn't know sky light access raised the chances of catching fish (I thought it was just rain)!

Thanks :) I'm really happy to hear that my work had actually inspired someone to start their own journal.
I've been following your journal for quite a while too, and I have to say, you're much more efficient a survival minecraft player than I am. I mean... my journal has been going for like... 6 months or so and the number of farms and other functional builds in my world is nothing compared to your world.

Glad to hear you'd like to download my world to explore, but right now there is an ongoing project in my world, so I can't really give you the current world download.

However, you can download an older version of the world (Fishing Hollow not included) right here.

posted a message on duythemcer's Survival Singleplayer Journal Part 2

Hello everybody, my name is duythemcer. Around this time last year I started a survival journal on a brand new world. The journal had been going strong for about 4-5 months, but then as 2016 came, I had some problems in life, as well as many important examinations, and therefore less and less time to play Minecraft. I finally stopped writing the journal in late January.

But now that all my problems had been solved, all my examinations had been taken (and produced great results), I am going to continue the duythermcer's SSP Journal, just as promised :)

For those who are new to my journal, you either check out Part 1 here, or if you don't wanna spend time reading through all 31 entries of the journal, take a look at the world overview

Okay, you've chosen to see the world overview. We're gonna start from my spawn base

This is where duythemcer's SSP Journal all started guys. We can see a pumpkin tower on the left, my spawn base (most of it is actually underground) and also an Iron Titan (which is broken due to a creeper explosion :P).

And here is the underground part of the spawn base

This is the grand central area. I have a potion brewing room in my base

... and also a cactus farm and a vine farm

There is also a part of the base that looks a bit cavern-like, which is where I sleep and store stuffs

And... I think that's all to the spawn base, I have a potato farm there as well, but it's not so significant a thing anyways.

In my opinion, the spawn base looks pretty nice and I'd really enjoy living in it, but there was just something with the spawn chunks area that makes the game extremely laggy at times, so I made a big decision to abandon the spawn base, and move to...

... my new base (the Castle/Fortress).

This base is by far the largest building in my world, and I'm super proud about it, so let us take a look inside.

On the right is my main nether portal, another thing that I'm super proud about. The portal has an on/off switch to stop pigmen spawning in the portal and walking around my beautiful castle.

Here is the interior of the castle

Here is the main hallway, which splits into 3 branches at the center of the castle

The branch on the left contains my storage and smelting room, along with my fancy bedroom

    The storage and smelting room

I also have an endermen XP farm, which is where I do 95% of my enchanting

On the left is my enchanted book storage unit, and that's my ender pearl storage on the right, and there is actually an enchanting room right behind those dirty enderman legs. I think the idea to use glass for the floor is pretty cool, as sometimes it can still trick my eyes :P

And... that is all there is to my world, I might forget to include some farms or buildings, pardon me, I'm the one who occasionally forgets the existence of certain stuffs in his survival world :P

Whoo.. the overview was long. Anyways, it's time for the next entry to the journal (I often call an entry a 'day')

Day 32: Things I built during the long break

Like I said at the beginning, I haven't had much time to play Minecraft since the start of 2016, but I did make some progress in my very limited free time.

If you're familiar with the journal or you've read the overview, you'd know that my Castle is split into 3 branches from the central area, and the branch on the right is mainly for storage. I decided to use the branch on the left for farming, and here is what I've built.

First and probably the most important build is... the mobfarm. That's right, I've finally finished the mob farm after a series of problems, you can see there's a tube for the loot the fall down, which now I find a bit unnecessary, so I'll probably remove it later on.

Now to actual development of the left branch, this is the entrance to the farm area

I'm going back to the natural build style again, this time using grass for the paths (even more Etho-like :P)

I have a mini crop farm that uses bone meal dispensers, a flower/dye farm and a potato farm that is... well... very inefficient and is only there for decorative purposes :P

Then there is a staircase leading down to another area that ...looks better

I really like the leaves and vines hanging down from the ceiling. As you can see, the path splits into 2 branches. In the left branch there is a small vine farm and an automated cane farm using slime blocks.

I have this problem with the cane farm, and you can actually see it in the screenshot : the air blocks above the sugar cane plants always get textured as slime blocks and the texture will only disappear when the plant grows. Not a big deal, but it just makes the whole thing look ugly :(

Also there is a loot collection area for my mobfarm in the left branch

I chose to sort out 5 more common loots including bones, rotten flesh, arrows, gun powder, strings and leave the rarer loots like witch drops and spider eyes in one chest module labelled as 'miscellaneous'.

That's all to the left branch, and in the right branch there is... nothing :P

However in the middle area between the 2 branches there is something quite cool in my opinion, and here it is

Have you guessed what it is?

    It's my 'Fishing Hollow' :)

Recently I've realized how OP a fish farm can be, so I wanted to jump straight into building one. After studying all sorts of fish farms online , I decided to choose Panda's design, very simple but highly OP. It's pretty common knowledge among Minecrafters that exposure to the sky gives the a fish farm the best rates, but instead of digging a hole in the ground, I took things up to the next level by mining out a big opening (mostly done by TNT - I love my mobfarm :) ) Here are some detailed screenshots of the Fishing Hollow

The fishing hut, a building to cover up the ugly fishing machine

Inside the hut, where the actual fish farm lies

Here we have a water fall running into a lake and a big letter "D' for my name. I feel like every time I have a plain wall and nothing to fit in, I'd use the good ol' big 'D' :P

Over to the right is an area which I really like, and might be the location of my future cocoa bean farm.

I also have a storage room for the loot from fishing

My favorite part of the room is the floor. This idea of mixing water, blue and light blue glass and some lily pads suddenly popped up in my mind and it was like... the idea of the year to me :P

So that is it for this update. I'm sorry I didn't write a lot, mainly because this entry is just a brief showing of what I've done during my long break. I'm really excited to be back playing Minecraft and writing this journal and I hope you guys like my work :)

If you're new and have any questions about my world, go ahead and ask and I'd be happy to answer.

Hi everyone, I have been taking a break from Minecraft for about 6 months or so and now I finally have the time to play it again. I last played in version 1.8.4 and now I want to update to 1.9, which is totally a closed book to me, so it would really help if someone could suggest me some working 1.9 iron farm designs. Please give me some extreme designs and also modest, resource-friendly ones, thank you :)
