Just a silly idea I had: cactus roller ball thingy. Crafted from cactus blocks, perhaps you get 4 balls per block. Rolls along the ground when tossed and damages mobs. Expires after a while.
Not necessarily nerfing skeletons, just making them spawn a little less. I'd actually be fine leaving them the way they are now and keeping the current spawn rate, I just want to be able to use a bow and deal with them.
Skeletons are easily the trickiest mob in the game. There's just no contest. None of the other mobs have a ranged attack and you can take them all on with a sword. Skeletons are the elite mooks of minecraft. And anyway, I shouldn't HAVE to use lava, it's cheesey as hell and I've seen more than one thread calling for it to be nerfed somehow.
My point is that bows are all but unusable for any significant number of mobs because of their cost. I dislike skeletons, but the major problem is probably with arrows. If they can shoot me I should at least be able to shoot back.
I think it depends on how people want to play on the server. Some people want nothing to do with PvP and just want to play cooperatively, in which case they would be necessary. I think it should be up to the server admin whether or not to use them.
You need a shovel to get snowballs after the recent update (I think), it would take 4 snowballs just to make one block... By the time you get a good shovel it would probably be easier to build with dirt.
On the stream last night, I think Notch said he has some idea about making winter maps bad for your health.
He did. Personally, I think you should be able to wear two layers of clothing - one for cloth, to keep you warm and to provide minor protection from damage, and one for armor to keep your organs inside you.
No no.
One of Iron, and over that Gold for bling.
Ornamental armor perhaps? Like, an iron helmet with gold horns added to it.
Nah, I got over the cave sounds, hehe. I still hate that TWANG sound though. It's surprisingly difficult to lure a skeleton to where you want it though when there's a bunch of creepers, zombies and spiders protecting it. It's like they're using them as a meatshield or something, I can't get past all the melee mobs to even make them follow me, and they tend to back off into walls when I approach them... Very easy to get flanked while trying to get at a skeleton.
It is the solution.
If you're on a hill in the cave, and have buckets of lava, use those.
It is super effective.
Ah, well that's the problem, the last cave I was exploring went up the whole way since I found it while I was strip mining. Lava is very limited in that situation.
