posted a message on i want to make a military mod but i have no idea what coding is
    Quote from minerforrest»

I know what coding is but i was just explaining that all i know about coding is that theres a lot of 1s and 0s.

When you write code, you don't do anything with 1s and 0s. Thankfully, other people have written programs that transform text written in a very specific way into unreadable (at least without specialized knowledge) code called bytecode. Bytecode is the 1s and 0s you've heard about, but if you are writing code you will never have to touch bytecode for a long time.

The way you talk there suggests an attitude that really will hurt you when you go to learn programming. All this info is available on the internet. You only have to go seek it out. In programming, the most valuable skill is being able to identify a problem, google it, and absorb that new information.

You have at your fingertips access to the sum of all human knowledge. Various people have put years into making tutorials for you to follow so you can learn this stuff. So far your replies have shown a refusal to get to work on learning, despite being repeatedly told that it's the only way to make a mod. So here's the thing. All the information you could ever need to make a minecraft mod - heck, all the information you could ever need to get a degree in computer science - is online. You just have to take the time to look for it.

I'm going to link a bunch of Java video tutorials for you. I don't know which are good and which are bad, so give them all a try for the first video or two and then chose one to stick with. If you learn better through text tutorials, I can provide many of those as well. (Or you can use google, which is your biggest tool as a programmer - you may as well practice it now.)

Try them out, see which series you like, and follow along with it. Don't just watch them passively, but actively play around with what you learn, try to make some non-minecraft project. Make a text-based RPG or a slot machine or something. Minecraft modding is harder than regular programming, so you need some experience doing a project on your own.

This will not be an easy thing. You can't just spend 10 minutes, or even an hour, or 5 hours learning to program and be a master capable of making a huge Minecraft mod. So let me offer you some encouragement: This will be hard, but all things that are worth doing will be hard. If you learn to program, not only will you be able to make sweet Minecraft mods, you will have a path to a career that has plenty of well paying jobs doing interesting work. You will learn to think analytically and logically, which will improve your ability to do well in school and the rest of your life. Learning to program will be exhausting. You will be tempted to quit, to kick your computer, throw it out the window, and give up. But if you stick with it, it will change your life forever.

So go out there, and learn everything you can. Be humble, realize you know nothing, and work your way up, step by step. Persevere when it gets hard, and learn from your mistakes. Keep it up, and in a few months or a year, I'm sure I'll be seeing a new mod on the forums with your name on it. Good luck!

posted a message on Minecraft Gender

Ideally I think Minecraft would have started with a gender neutral name like Alex with androgynous features. That said, Steve's model and name are certainly not gender-neutral so I think it makes sense to represent the diversity of the playerbase with a feminine character as well as a masculine one.

That said, another thing that I think is really neat about Steve is that he's not white. Obviously it's hard to pin a race to a blocky pixellated cube-guy, but in a world where most games have a white protagonist, I think it's really cool that Steve isn't and yet is still accepted by society as being a gaming character. I haven't seen many people point it out either - it doesn't seem like something many people notice, which is also cool - typically a non-white character is notable and a bit shocking to the gaming world, but for Steve it's just how he's always been.

posted a message on What is the best technique for a beginner faction player.

Base building: Dig to bedrock. Mine a flat layer 2 high at y=50 or so across your entire plot and fill with water to stop TNT cannons. Then, two blocks inside your faction borders, mine vertical shafts and fill with water. Below that, build a base however you want. If the server supports /home, you should /sethome your base and then close up any entryways to be invisible from the surface. Any mines you build out of your base should have an intact water path through them, and should require you to dig at least a layer from both the inside of the water and the outside of the water, so that the attacker has to set up TNT cannons, then get stuck by water. If you do this correctly you are completely secure provided you don't do something dumb like /tpaccept strangers into base.

Base raiding: ask if you can join a faction, tpa to a bunch of people, and then when they accept you /sethome in their base. When they log off steal stuff. That's really the only way to get around faction protection. Or you know, don't be a huge jerk to everybody and mine your materials yourself. Raiding is a zero sum game and it only serves to make enemies. Think of how sad you are when you get raided and project that onto others. Is that how you want to be remembered to random strangers online? How about instead of raiding you leave a sign saying "your base is insecure pm me if you want tips on how to fix it, here's a free pickaxe by the way, and no i didn't take anything. have a nice day." All the satisfaction of breaking in with none of the anger or sadness associated. Instead you made somebodies' day and they will forever remember you as the good guy who helped them. Isn't that what you want?

Money saving? I don't know what that's supposed to mean.

But consider this: If more people come on mineplex, then mineplex can afford a better server and thus support even more people. There isn't a hard cap on server power, it's just how much money you are willing to pay.

posted a message on Are there more male or female Minecarft players?

Minecraft is neither a boyish nor a girlish game. I would argue that no game should be exclusively for boys or girls, but minecraft is especially gender-neutral. There's no blood and gore to try and pander to boys and there's no froofy pink stuff to pander to girls. I think that not only helps the game but also helps society move past the idea that things must be pink or pastel for girls to be allowed to play with them.

I haven't seen a census of the whole minecraft community, but the forums tend to be dominated by boys from my impression, though probably less so than most other forums.

As for your second question, there is no data to confirm or deny this, but studies of other games have found somewhat similar results. I don't actually know, and my small sample size of friends is actually reversed of that. Important to note that this isn't some inherent difference between sexes, but an ingrained idea of masculinity/femininity that I would argue does not help gamers and should not be propagated.

(Also blah blah boy doesn't always equal male and same for girl and female, but I won't bug you about that, I'm sure you've heard it before.)

posted a message on HELP WITH SERVER NEEDED

The most likely thing that comes to mind is that you have what is known as a dynamic router: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc940013.aspx

Check your IP, see if it is the same as it was when you started the server. If it isn't, send everybody the new one. There are some ways to change your server to a static IP, and I think there are tutorials on this forum for that. If you've already checked the IP, let me know and there's some other stuff to try.

ccrusher, are you looking for something that just allows you to rearrange items you already have in inventory or a thing to give yourself entirely new ones? Either is doable but I know a program already exists for the latter.

posted a message on Has anyone ever fallen in love over Minecraft?
    Quote from Edward_Wesson»

I think I am, but I am not sure if this is happiness or love. Have you ever been in love on Minecraft?

This really depends on your circumstances. I don't know if you know the person irl but also play MC with them, or if you only know them through MC. I don't know if you talk on skype or something or just through Minecraft, so obviously this might be different.

First off, internet/long-distance relationships, contrary to what many will tell you, can and do work. They do require much more effort from both parties though, so be warned. I would say that if you know somebody IRL and also through MC, then your relationship has the most potential to grow. Following that, frequently talking - actually hearing voice - would be your next best bet. If this is just somebody you know from a server, I'd say you need to get to know them much better first.

You can open the hidden folder by launching MC and clicking "open resource pack folder". From there navigate up a folder and then take your worlds. It won't autosave, so do it manually.
