I use PermissionsEX because I find it easier to use. If anything were to happen to PEX, I have another folder for bPermissions which I recently installed as a backup.
Yea really nutin to do besides orebefuasctor spam guard and nocheat if those dont do enough just ban the people that u get alerts from
The only problem with alerts are the fact it may be false at times, and the innocent guy winds up being the hacker, while the convicted hacker is truely innocent.
When I run Vanilla Minecraft, with the following settings:
Graphics: Fast
Render Distance: Far
Smooth Lighting: Off
Advanced OpenGL: On
Particles: All
I generally get around 225FPS on the Max FPS setting, and chunks more or less load instantly (less than a second), far faster than the fastest I can travel in the game. I get 150FPS if I turn on Smooth Lighting and Fancy Graphics, but I honestly dislike the way they look. A ridiculous and needlessly high number, and I want to increase my game's view distance to take advantage of the processing power of my computer.
When I run Optifine though, using as close as I can figure out to Vanilla Minecraft settings, I find chunks load extremely slowly, taking up to 20 seconds to load all the chunks at Far view distance. Even when I play with Optifine's settings, trying to go with all the options the mod claims are the fastest, it never gets up to the same speed of chunk loading that Vanilla Minecraft has. With the lowest settings, it caps out at around 150FPS, so it's not even gaining FPS at the cost of longer chunk loading times.
I'm not sure what's wrong. Why is Optifine making my Minecraft have lower FPS and load chunks slower? All I really want to do is increase my render distance.
Any help/ideas about how to set Optifine up correctly?
Try uninstalling it? I use Nodus which has optifine and I don't have the best FPS either (because my system is crap).
Hmm, why does nothing help my FPS? Must be something wrong somewhere as all of these mods make no difference to my speed. I run between 18 and 25 no matter what mods or what settings I use, even putting a 64x64 texture pack on made no difference. It won't go smoother and it won't get worse. After a while of playing it lags but just cycling through the fog settings gets it back up and running.
As for this mod, I think I prefer the look of this fog over the inbuilt stuff, I think.
Maybe it's all of those mods. If it isn't, then it's your PC.
You have a server that you want to publicize or you need a jump-start. Great! I've created this topic because I decided there weren't many that explain what makes a good server and help players out. Make sure you are using a desktop, have at least 4 GB ram, and an excellent internet connection. You'll want to hold at least 20 players. When you get popular enough, think about buying a host. I ran my first server on a laptop until switching to a host. I recommend these hosts based on what I've heard:
Let's start out with the theme of the server. The theme is what the server revolves around. It'll decide what gameplay is like, what the spawn will look like, and who will join. What interests you? No mods to the game? Medieval times? Prison rank-ups? PvP? Mini-games?
You can always use these themes along with many other previously-created ones, or you can add customization with a custom theme or adding stuff to one. You want to keep players interested. Update the theme every so often. Hosting events along side to also keeps things interesting. Host things such as drop parties, battles in arenas, and contests.
Building the structure
Depending on your theme, you'll need the right plugins. You can download CraftBukkit from bukkit.org. There are some bukkit plugins that are useful even if you have a Vanilla server, such as rollback and anti-hacking ones.
Once you've installed and configured the plugins best for your server, you'll need a spawn. It doesn't need to be an expert-made one, but you'll want a decent one for now. Get a few friends on and begin and begin advertising on some server-listing websites.
Some good starting server-lists are: Minecraft Forum Planet Minecraft Minecraft Server List
You may wind up with a lot of griefers and hackers or noobs, but a couple of these people will stay if they enjoy the server. Always treat these people with respect; they are more willing to help out if you do. If you don't respect them, they will leave and you may be the victim of a griefing.
Recruiting Staff
You can't manage a server yourself, so you need staff. As mentioned before, if you give them enough respect, they'll respect and help in return. Though you need to be careful when selecting an individual. Looks may be deceiving, so be forewarned.
Don't recruit people who ask for it after they've been on 5 minutes. Let them play for about 2 weeks before considering them. In these two weeks, you may want to oversee them in vanish and begin to befriend them. Then pretend to log off and take note of their chat on console. If they suddenly go from the nice person you'd befriended to a rule-disobeyer. Here are some things to notice when considering a promotion:
Helpfulness, kindness, and respect
Respect and enjoyment from other's
A positive attitiude toward the server
A mature act
Knoledge of moderative/administrative positions
Proper use of the server's language
If the player does these after a couple of weeks of watching them, promote them. Explain why you chose them over anyone else and the responsibility of the rank. Test them as a trial rank, and if they prove to handle the rank, promote them fully. An example of my permissions system is in the spoiler below.
Trial-Staff:
Only has /mute, /warn, and /kick. They may help players, however, they cannot do much. How the player reacts within this position determines weather or not they'll be promoted.
Moderators:
Moderators are the first line of defense between members and administrators. They enforce the rules and provide comfort and fun for players. Think of it like law-enforcement.
Administrators:
Admins handle manage the major issues. These include plugin installation/configuration or development, lower ranking staff, website updates and moderation, and many other higher-ranking issues.
Accepting applications:
Applications used on forums aren't as effective of a way to hire staff, but it can help find their true identity. If you want better results, use advanced questions. Here is an example of my staff application:
Username:#You need to know who you're dealing with Age:#Would you rather have a 9 y/o or 16 y/o head-admin? This may also help determine the level of maturity. How long have you played? (1 week required): #They need to adapt to the environment. If they get the rank then joi/n, they may not enjoy the server or they will abuse when you aren't on.
Level of maturity (scale of 1-10): How many hours would you dedicate to the server?:#I recommend 2-5 hours Time zone?:#It doesn't help when all of your staff are on in the day, then a griefer logs on at night. Previous knowledge as staff:#Do they know how the system works? Why are you applying? (paragraph required):#Are they going to help out? How will the server benifit? (paragraph and extensive detailrequired):#How will the server benifit from them? (extensive detail means they aren't just advertising, banning rule-breakers, or building) How do you treat ordinary players?:#You don't want to lose players because of them. How do you punish rule breakers?:#How do they punish rule breakers? What knowledge do you have with plugins?:#Useful for administrative/developer positions Previous bans? (list reason and server):#Do you want rule breakers as staff? Preferred emergency communication:#How will you contact them in an emergency?
Don't forget to say thanks!!

If you want a reliable server, just buy a server unless you want to pay your electricity bill, pay 100s to 100s of dollars on a new computer, hardware, OS, etc. etc., and get better internet speed/router, which I doubt you have the money to do all of this. Server hosts are cheaper, come with all of this and you can view the control panel from anywhere.
It's impossible to hack OP unless you access the server console/ops.txt directly or get opped by someone. I'm the only OP on my server and if you have WorldGuard, you can disable in-game opping.
And even though I don't know Java yet, it looks fairly easy compared to what I thought.
I being a server owner and a regular player have seen a decent amount of crap on a lot of servers/players. I wouldn't join a 5-30 player server unless it is well-moderated. I'd join a larger server with well-moderated, anti-greif, anti-swear stuff.

A lot of you "server hosts" providing details are probably lying. I'd do research on a preferred and cheap server host instead of waste your time sifting through these people who just want money.
