3,884,294 Bought the game so far (10/24 2011) He made more than 50 Million US Dollar.. - I agree with you, if he really did it only because of the money he would be just like everyone else :dry.gif:

Wrong, he has to do it for the money because Mojang is a developing company, AKA a actual corporation so they need to make a income. As with all businesses, their "need" for income or revenue increases each time they count the muneh.

So they might go: "We need to earn more to pay off our development cost"
Then they will go: "We need to earn more to pay off our staff"
Then they will go: "We need to earn more so we can go buy some new stuff"

    The excuse is endless really...

Look at EA games and see how they turned out from the start... Their greed got bigger and bigger until they got a incredibly FAT EGO.

If they didn't attempted to hire too many people to develop a single game, and only hired 1 professional programmer for that, then they would probably saved and not need to make extra money.

But nooo, they had to hire 200 programmers for a single game.

posted a message on Scrolls Shall Stay Scrolls
Zenimax wanted to fight this because they "need" to, because the whole "elder scrolls" franchise was on the line.
If you didn't know about this then there's some more info about this thing.

Apparently when Mojang wrote what they want to be trademarked, they made it VERY VERY Vague and very very wide, meaning they want "scrolls" trademark to cover almost EVERYTHING. Even Radios and Television!

This causes Zenimax to react to Mojang's move, forcing them to toss a lawsuit in.

Notch is not your average indie guy, he's cunning and can be quite evil... My friend knows him personally cuz Notch apparently joined his forums years back, got told his game idea won't work, and shooed him away. And that was while Notch wanted to make a "minecraft" like game on a Mirage Source which means a 2D game engine. But Mirage source was owned by a group of people and they don't like someone suggesting sandbox ideas to their MMORPG engine.

Notch may look innocent, but he's very tactile and very strategic in what he plans for his company to do... Too bad most of the time he bites more than he can chew though...

Even for his dragon update, I think Jeb was the one who made that... Notch for one probably can't code or design that well seeing how he made the earlier mobs and re-used the same models for zombies, skeletons, and pigmens, but textured them differently.

Personally I find Jeb to be a professional animator and programmer so in some ways Notch hired the right person for the job anyhow. And it's not like CEO or VP of a company actually does all direct work all the time...

And about this whole trademark ordeal...

80% chance that Mojang can't take it simply because they made the coverage too vague and thus "threatens" pretty much every single franchise that has the word "scrolls" in it.

If you don't know what I mean, think about this:
    - If Mojang succeeds, they can sue ANYONE with scrolls in their products, regardless of how the word is used... Like say a tv show called "Scrolls of Time", Mojang Sues, and probably will hurt them.

The lawyers and attorneys are probably loving it though... Whoever works for Mojang's law department, probably did so intentionally to fund itself from lawsuits or something.
They seems to "intend" to want to cause a confusion, over making the trademark clearer.

The problem here is that everyone in this forum might look at the lawsuit and cheer for the underdog, or what it seems like one... A dog with a rocket launcher that is.

posted a message on The Nether Update: The Nether Expansion Topics
Remember to keep things simple, having a huge list is fine and dandy, but are each of these ideas able to stand on it's own when implemented one by one?

All these suggestions were if Notch implemented everything you've shown him to date, which can comes with it's own list of bugs and so forth.

Things I think can be implemented simply as new items with new functions, are the nether world's monsters and resources, but the complex things like in crafting, would require the basis of these monsters and resources.

Monsters should always be added first, with resources second.

If the resources do get implemented in some form, you'd want to add simple crafting uses for them, and complex crafting afterwards.

You'd would like Notch to prepare time to debug as he add things, because as it is with implementing cool awesome ideas, it always comes with consequences as well.

In programming, if you can bothered to create a item, you have to follow a process that the game uses to make it usable, so if you went too complex, it will screw over the coding base and can potentially lag or bug out the entire game.

Minecraft as of now is about 15% more laggier than a few versions back, mainly because of more stuff being generated and so forth... Just as much as you like adding things, you also gotta debug as much and often. Optimization is key also, since after adding a pile of features, you will then realize (and curse) the huge mountain of stuff and no way to get at the door you've just blocked.

    :Lava: MoltenSlip
    :Water: AquaSlip
    ]" title="-<->" /> SkySlip
    :mossystone: TerraSlip

The order to link the world is as follow:

    ]" title="-<->" /> SkySlip
    Portal Up
:soil: Surface | Portal inside Ocean* :Water: AquaSlip** | Portal Inside Dirt***/Cave :mossystone: ****
    Portal Down
    :Lava: MoltenSlip

*When you make a portal inside a body of water
**Within it's own plane, meaning teleporting in and out is the same portal between the two world
***When you make a portal with dirt blocks or mossy cobblestone blocks in it.
    **** Same as Aqua

    Possible unique enemies:
    MoltenSlip(FireSlip) = Zombie Pigs, Ghasts
    AquaSlip = Electric Eels, Piranhas
SkySlip = Birds Of Prey (Winged beasts)
TerraSlip = StoneGolem (stationary mob, same ai as Zombie pigs, until attacked/disturbed, it whacks you)

TerraSlip is more like a Giant Stone Altar, a giant room with many mini temples inside it. Bottomless death pits is a possibility... You disturb golems with mining and noisy activities (TNTs).
Golems are blind, and can only sense you within a radius if you so disturb them, but they can be a bit slow so you only have to escape the vicinity... They also do not leave their areas since they can't jump across pits.

Can we make "logic blocks" out of our tools?
The same sense as Diablo 2 inventory and management, your weapon takes up a unique amount of space.
Blocks should always take up 1 square.

Armors should always take a 2x4 and 2x5.

Arrows - Maybe make it possible to stack up to 200 arrows, and should look like a quiver?

The reason for this, is that it makes looters very very picky about what to steal.
So instead of people being able to steal a entire chest, if they prefer to steal armors and weapons, they won't have enough space.

posted a message on BARBARIANS! - A Nightmare of a Mob
Start off these mob as a simple intelligent enemy, but then work it up, don't start muddling it up so soon because people would get confused.

Barbarians - Humanoid Mob that has a higher intelligence, and works within a group of other barbarians.

They can be a sorta event, that occurs randomly as you play the game maybe.
Only appears when you play any game that has a ocean (since they use a boat).

They should land on the coast with a big boat, which probably serves as their HQ.

They come out at night, and maintain a perimeter to patrol their territory.

They attack other mobs, excluding sheeps and pigs.

Can have 2 variety of warriors, 1 that shoots arrows, and 1 that uses axes.
    * Warriors can be armored and tougher than normal mobs, also stronger and requires cunning and well refined armors and weapons to defeat.

They should not wander around or chase after you, but they can expand their perimeter each day, putting you at risk of being exposed and found out.

They spawn in groups of 5, 2 ranged and 3 melee, and patrols their perimeter.

+0~2 spawns to each day passed if not wiped out by the player or monster.

Can be attracted to torches set by players at night, as a mean of "curiosity" to discover, rather than monster's that avoid them because of the light. This is so you might end up running into one if you keep setting up torches on a path from your house to your mine, and if a barbarian intercepts it.
