Nothing is ever useless - if they don't break the game, more options are always the best idea, even if you can't see a point to them. To suggest no one else can is arrogance. I'm not saying it's more important then a lot of other things, don't get me wrong, but I like the idea.
Consider defending a fort where the attackers first have to push through (or avoid) a negative status field, for example. This'd be just as beneficial as having a "positive" field in the center, as when the attackers reach that point it's not going to help you.
How about they add an interface where only some players can get the powers?
A lot of you are choosing rather large elements in the game that are used frequently. Some things that not many use anymore are minecart furnaces, snow golems, maps, and especially cauldrons.
Yeah, MInecart furnaces are pretty pointless currently.
Maps got a huge upgrade a few weeks ago, why remove them?
The only beneficial potion effects that the beacon does not have are Water Breathing, Fire Resistance, Invisibility, and Night Vision. Without adding more potion effects, we cannot have at least 10 for the beacon.
Just out of curiosity, what potion effects besides the ones listed do you think should be created for this feature?
Water breathing
Naseau
Blindness
Mining Fatigue
Yeah, sorry. I counted wrong. there are only 4 unused potion effects. I also should have mentioned that I want some Negative effects on the beacon block also. For adventure maps, multiplayer, etc.
The Beacon is Jeb's project. The latest change to the Beacon was in snapshot 12w38a. Jeb was absent due to his cousin's wedding, and so made no changes for snapshot 12w39a or 12w39b, the most recent snapshots.
I mentioned they made multiple changes every now and then. My problem is non of the changes are serious changes.
12w36a The "Work in Progress" block is now called "Beacon", can be found in the Creative menu and can be crafted. The texture was changed from to and an animation was added.
12w38a Texture of block changed again. Changed from to and light beam changed.
Now just read this change log. Notice anything weird about it? The Beacon Block has not been upgraded yet?! Yes, they have upgraded the texture multiple times. And yes, they have added a crafting recipe. But it still acts the exact same way since they added it a little over 7 weeks ago. Here are some things that are wrong with it.
The interface is hard to understand and is pretty buggy. It needs to be simplified.
It is way to expensive. I personnaly think killing the Wither should be enough to fully use the Beacon Block. Killing the Wither AND needing thounsands of Iron/Gold/Emeralds/Diamonds is insane.
I feel it should have a larger range.
It needs more atributes. The 5 we have are nice. But I think it should have atleast 10. I mean they have a lot more in the unused potion code part of the game, why not use them?
Mojang only has a few weeks left to get the Beacon Block working. They should dedicate a snapshot to finishing it.
No, they haven't. Have you paid any attention to the going ons at Mojang, before making assumptions? First, they have to finish the rendering engine. Priority 1, that you won't see any progress of yet, because it's being written separately. The API is also being written separately. Just forget about the mod API for the time being, it will make your life, and everyone else's, easier. Stop thinking of it as being delayed. It isn't delayed at all. It's unfinished. There's a difference. Say it with me: Unfinished. Because the rendering engine needs to be finished first. And that is also unfinished. Not delayed. Not forgotten. Not a non-priority. It's being worked on. Separately. You won't see it in snapshots. Hell, you probably won't even see it in 1.5. I hate to rant at you, but I get tired of seeing the same old ignorant statements over and over and over again, from the same people.
TL,DR; Mod API is being worked on, and in the meanwhile forget about it.
Well, they did say it would be released in 1.3, now it's 1.5? That sounds like delayed to me. You also sound like you're mad over a small comment I made.
Most games that I want to buy I either am sure I am going to buy it, or know I'm not going to buy it. But Borderlands 2, I'm completely split on it. I can not decide wether to buy it or not. What is your opinion?
(I like shooter games, but already have a lot. I also never played Borderlands 1)
