I made this mod awhile ago so I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but I thought it would be a good gesture to release it to the public now. It's my greatest accomplishment in minecraft modding so far, and I thought that some of the ideas would help other modders enjoy the game more. Without further ado, I'll dive right into the meaty parts.
The handheld features:
First off, there are 3 additions to the game of blocks already in minecraft that can now he handheld items. They are:
1. The Handheld Crafting Table
It's the simplest by far, and for good reason. It's not like there's much to explain here. It does what you'd expect it to do. Here's the crafting recipe:
2. The Handheld Furnace
A little bit more complicated, but not by much. It works when you're inside the gui, but once you close the gui, all the items pop out. To be honest I guess it's not very helpful, but it's better to be underpowered than overpowered. Here's the crafting recipe:
3. The Handheld Enchantment Table
The most complicated. It's advantage is two-fold, as it helps you to both enchant items. but also saves tons of space with that whole ridiculous setup you may already have going. Here's the crafting recipe:
When you make the handheld enchantment table, notice that it has 0 bookshelves infused. It will act just like a normal enchantment table. However, you can add bookshelves by crafting them together with the HET like this:
Notice the difference between the two when you open the gui. With one that has bookshelves infused, the bookshelves on the side light up.
Now, on to the good stuff. First, we have the essence collector and the essence converter. Let's start off with the collector. Here's the recipe:
It's pretty expensive, but don't worry, the price will pay off. What does it do, you ask? Well, if any living entity is killed within a 5 block radius (don't quote me on that, and yes, I realize I have the source code), 1 buckets worth of blood is added to the collector. You can either put this into a bucket and place it on the ground, or, if your heart desires, place an essence converter within a 5 block radius (again, don't quote me), and the liquid will be magically transferred over to the converter. Here's the recipe for the converter:
I know it's not very expensive, but it's kind of useless without the collector, and the collector costs enough for the both of them. What the converter does is, when sufficient blood is in the tank (check the list later in the article) and a redstone signal is applied, it will churn the blood into a mob drop. Watch it work:
Neat, huh! Here's the list of costs for each drop:
String: 500 mB
Gunpowder: 750 mB
Bone: 1000 mB
Rotten Flesh: 750 mB
Ender Pearl: 5000 mB
Blaze Rod: 2500 mB
Ghast Tear: 7500 mB
Magma Cream: 10000 mB
Note: DO NOT TRY TO HOOK UP EITHER THE COLLECTOR OR THE CONVERTER WITH PIPES FROM ANY MODS! THEY ARE NOT SET UP TO DO SO, AND MAY CRASH YOUR WORLD! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CORRUPTION OF ONE OF YOUR WORLDS!
Now, on to the teleporter. Here's the recipe:
Yeah, it costs 6 enderpearls and some iron and diamonds, but it doesn't really seem like that much, does it? Well, that's because teleporting itself costs a currency. However much fuel you provide is however many blocks you can travel in any which way you desire. There are two different settings, which are the global and relative settings. Global (indicated by the globe being highlighted), will teleport you to a specific location based on the coordinates you provide. The relative setting (indicated by the globe not being highlighted) will teleport you relative to the location at which you are currently standing. You can give fuel in emeralds (256 blocks), diamonds (128 blocks), gold (32 blocks), or iron (8 blocks). Then, once you are ready to travel, press the big green check mark. Here's an example:
And last of all, we have the bags. A simple white bag can be made just like this:
However, if you want a different colored bag, let's say cyan, for example, you surround any bag in the respective color dye, like this:
The bag adds the inventory of a chest, which can be closed an opened and contain the same contents. However, remember that when you switch the color of the bag, all of the contents will be erased. Here's the gui:
And that's it! Hope you enjoy my mod! Feel free to provide suggestions and give feedback in the comments below!
Would it be possible to change the charger to look like an anvil, but with the texture of an iron block? Perhaps an optional version that requires fuel to recharge/repair items? Either redstone blocks, or diamonds would make it more balanced. A version of the furnace that burns redstone/redstone blocks instead of coal?
With those changes I would love to use these. Either way, nice work.
For one, that's a fantastic idea for the anvil texture on the charger. I'll do that for the 1.8 update if I still feel like updating this mod. Also, with the making it more balanced thing, meh. I really only made these as a proof of concept to myself, but I figured some people would enjoy using them.
Obsidian fragments - used to make obsidian tools. 9 in crafting grid make obsidian block.
Also more compact storage: compressed cobble, stone, dirt, gravel
Towards the obsidian tools, I'm trying to stay away from just making new tools like 1000s of mods already have. Unless it's extremely different and innovative, I'm most likely not going to add new tools. For the compact storage, doesn't extra utilities add all of those?
1: I don't think this is in the right section, then again I could be wrong
2: along witht he handheld furnace, you should add a hand held ender chest/regular chest. You should also maybe add a set of armor that, when a full set is made, will allow the wearer to fly/swim fast/ take no fall damage (one of those).
I was also thinking of maybe a way to double or even triple the output of wood. Basicly, have a saw mill block, allowing you to put the logs in, power it with redstone/waterfall type thing, then the log will be cut into 8 or more planks instead of crafting it into 4. Maybe also with that Idea, you could add/make it harder to get wood (this is tapping into Terrafirma craft), so you would need flint tools, or even just a piece of flint to start with to be able to cut trees/get wood (but that might edit base classes, or you could make your own).
Then, another Idea (sorry, I've got alot, this is the last one tho), I've been looking around for a good mod that'll add this, and their either fake, outdated, or come with thousands of other things that I don't want/need, but maybe you could add a new block that is purely aesthetic, that spawns in the world as giant crystal formations. so, you would be walking along and see the strange block poking out of the ground, and as you mine it, you find that it stretches deep into the ground and you fall into an open chamber full of the large, long crystals. Maybe they emit light or can be broken down to make simple tools with the power of Iron but a bit more strength than stone?
Those are my Idea's, give them a look maybe?
I've added a handheld chest called a bag, which holds the same as a chest. It has 16 different color variations for fun. For the armor, I don't want to add extremely powerful armor until I actually have extremely difficult items to get. Without having an extremely in-depth mod, flying and negating damage isn't something I would consider, at least not yet. It's the same thing with the wood production, but for a little bit of a different reason. I feel one of the most fair ways to double outputs is with power systems, and there are already so many that already have established good ones that it is unnecessary to make a new one. And lastly, I'm not good with aesthetics, so I'm not going to do any aesthetics things anytime soon.
Is there anything you ever wanted to add to minecraft that may seem SO simple, yet it still isn't there? Well, here's your chance. I'm looking to create a mod in which the community contributes it's ideas and the best ones are selected to be added into the game.
Note: no base edits will be made. Only new blocks, items, fluids, etc. will be added.
Every idea will be considered, so don't hold back. If it's good, it will be added.
Ideas implemented thus far:
Handheld furnace
Handheld crafting table
Bags
Teleporters (at a steep price)
A somewhat-complicated way of generating mob drops in peaceful mode.
I'm rather stumped on what to make, so I thought I would ask the audience instead. I'm open minded, but I still have a few rules for requests:
1. Please don't ask for an addon to another mod unless you are positive it either has an api or is open source
2. Don't ask to make a mod revolving around a show, and don't ask for a mod of a game without elaborating upon what the game is
3. Elaborate. If your idea is good, I'm gonna want to know a lot about it.
Position: Coder Experience: I'm very much inclined with making GUIs and Tile Entities, and have released a few basic mods Ability: Medium-High Time you can spend: Not a lot, but I'm willing to help out whenever possible. I'm from the US, but I'll most likely just be looking to help out with, well, helping. A github link would suffice for me to contribute.
First of all, I'd like to say that I acknowledge the overpoweredness of these mods. Don't hate about it. If you don't want minecraft to be easy, then don't download it. That's it.
Redstone Furnaces:
As the first of my tile entity explorations, the redstone furnace is basic, but effective, and still OP. It works just as a furnace, except instead of having a fuel slot, you need to apply a redstone signal to activate the furnace.
A little more basic but still useful, the tool charger is a block with a single inventory space that can charge tools, like the title implies. It also works on some mods, as long as the damage on the tool is a regular durability. I tried to make the block somewhat balanced with an expensive recipe:
