    oh, looked about but must have missed the other threads.
    I did notice much talk about 3rd party mappers and hand help map improvements but not using any as picture-frames.

    a representation of dots for other players (multiplayer) would be sufficient?
    It would be useful to track people and see what new has been built since you left.
    perhaps even show up neutral mobs? like sheep or pigs?

    I personally have several maps, used in my adventures excavations and general lolling about.
    but many of them are stored away and are rarely looked at or appreciated!

    so here is my IDEA:

    taking a map of your region and framing it!
    the map can then be viewed & adds a lovely aesthetic to your home/fortress/castle/dungon/hole/pile of dirt

    here is a quick shoop of it in my SMP:


    obviously the map will become "static" and while retaining all map info will loose the player icon on it.
    I thought of this idea while playing multi-player as a cool "visitors" board for new players to the server

    I also know of 3rd party web browser based maps but see an in-game one as a quaint addition!
    what do you guys think?

    Also, I like what that other person said about a custom shader to antialias the edges of textels, heck, notch should just add custom shader support into minecraft. It would only be for those with good gfx cards though.

    ! AGAIN ! default a block has 2 polygons.. 2!(per a side) YOUR DEMONSTRRATION of an edge shows hundreds of polygon edging... anti-aliasing is "polygon smoothing" you cannot "smooth" 2 damn polygons! this will only work on higher set or "hd" modded where you force moar! i.e. at 64x64 (thats what it is refering to)

    fyi: all java rendering is done client side, so does not create lag for other players

    and a BETTER method of edge smoothing is vortex or sub-pixles or to use a lighting effect overlay.

    ... ALSO aliasing only works when you come across a non x,y,z @ 90 deg angle... THIS DOES NOT EXIST IN A WORLD MADE OUT OF 90 DEG CUBES! (like your slanted line in diag.)

    My last thought is this...
    Minecraft is about imagination, ingenuity and comunity...
    if you want DX11, hydrodynamic physics, 12x anti-aliasing and some real-time vector path physics AI...

    minecraft has polygons... 2 per a block side (default) smoothing is not possible here
    however you may be referring to "bloom" effect

    fyi: polygons being triangular, two triangles make a ... im not going to even bother to finish this sentence.

    as for it being to hard... because getting diamonds mining obsidian, setting up portals is sooo easy compared right?

    I think peoples gripes about power rails is that they are not as good as the glitch boosters.
    Power rails are great but they have been set to a more reasonable speed.

    the reasonable speed you refer to is also a CONSTANT speed, tweaked for multi-player so other players don't see a kart fly by, and 3 seconds later captain lag-pants flying along on his imaginary kart after it!

    CANT NOTCH: simply set the boost capacity of powered rail on a slope to be greater than one lying flat? solving the problem?
