Hrm, but then I'd need to keep a torch in my hotbar. The appeal of the scaffolding block to me was the single-block solution to all my construction frameworking needs, and having to use two items to expand horizontally isn't ideal for that. Plus sky islands would be harder to make if your scaffolding dropped on its own. The one-hit deconstruction should be enough.
What, entities that you can interact with and physically bump into are impossible? They'll never work? So I guess the horses are just hallucinations then. So are all the planes and assorted vehicle mods floating around on these forums.
Forge managed to get it to work in minecraft, so it's definitely possible. The main issue would probably be with mods that work with minecraft's existing lighting system, although that's a small price to pay for a more solid, flexible lighting system for the future.
Hrm, not so hot on the gravity thing. That would make it impossible to place scaffolding along the sides of a building without having a support block underneath it, and that kinda defeats the purpose of having a dedicated easy scaffolding block. Still love the idea though.
Mojang's already going about with changing the guts of the game by changing the required version of Java, why not go all the way and do the chunk format/lighting while they're at it?
Well, horses were in the april fool's update, and lookit that. They're in the game. Mojang's shown that they are capable of making semitransparent blocks, mebbe they're just getting the lighting worked out before they release it for real.
Good idea, but i don't think it would work well. i just use dirt as scaffolding, theres no need for acual scaffolding
Things scaffolding could do that dirt doesn't do right now:
1. One hit tool-less disassembly.
2. Climbable sides without having to occupy another hotbar slot with a stack of ladders.
3. Make for somewhat transparent scaffolding, to let people actually see what they're building
4. Safe and quick horizontal expansion, as crouching over the side of a block is no longer needed.
Scaffolding might displace ladders? Make the recipe as efficient as normal ladders. There'll still be situations where you'll want to place a ladder over a scaffolding block: Ladders only take up the side of block, and they don't propagate their texture across all sides of the block. The addition of dedicated scaffolding blocks only makes building easier for those who enjoy survival building.

Mojang wat you doing.
Loving the way this mod is purely aesthetic and doesn't add more stuff that I have to remember to the game. Keep up the good work!
