posted a message on Detecting when a furnace has finished smelting

Ah ha! I figured something out. I used an observer to detect the furnace turning on/off, then a T-flipflop pushing a redstone block over or off a redstone line so I could power something else while the furnace is smelting. Works brilliantly.

    Any other methods folks use?

posted a message on Detecting when a furnace has finished smelting

    Hey gang.

I'm trying to activate a circuit when a smelter has finished. I tried using a comparator but the signal didn't change until I emptied the furnace of all items, including the fuel. I was hoping for a way to detect when the furnace stopped smelting, regardless if there was fuel remaining or not.

Does anyone know a way to do this?

    Many thanks

posted a message on Nether boat superhighway docking system

I came up with an interesting idea for a nether boat travel automatic boat docking and dispensing station. Tooks some iteration to get right, but worked really well in the end. Keen to get thoughts from others.

Try putting buttons on the iceblocks - it will prevent mobs from spawning on them, and won't impede the flow of items overtop.

posted a message on Does Nether Portal placement

In my experience, the game will try to match the Y coordinate, but it needs to be in open land of course, so it will adapt the location of the portal generated to make sure there is room to place it in all 3 dimensions. I've made portals at Y-30 in the overworld that end up 80 blocks high in the nether because there was land/trees below.

You can however move a portal in the Y dimension anywhere you like (assuming you remove the original) and it will connect to the same portal as the first did.

I've been building my new world for the past 4 months, and to celebrate episode 50 of the let's play series I made this World Tour episode to show the progress I have made. I'd love to hear your thoughts about the world I've created so far.

posted a message on Interesting pumpkin farm design

    Hey all.

I came up with a new design (to me) for an automatic pumpkin & melon farm. I'm sure it's been done before, because what hasn't at this point, but I came upon this design by myself and am pretty pleased with the end results and efficiency. Let me know what you think. I'm pretty new to automation like this, so excuse the level of redstone complexity.

    Thanks

posted a message on Fishing in self-made pond not giving me enchanted items

Ah ha! I found a solution. Seems it just wasn't deep or wide enough. I make it a 6x6x6 hole in the centre. Now enchanted items are appearing.

posted a message on My first recorded world

Thanks that's really helpful. I've been struggling with the frame rate issue. I am using an M1 Mac, and Minecraft is not yet optimised for it - still running in emulation. I'm running and recording the game at 720p and have optimised a lot, but there could still be room to squeeze out a little more performance and get the recording FPS up...

posted a message on Fishing in self-made pond not giving me enchanted items

    Hello.

In my world, I made myself a fishing pond. It's 5 blocks deep at the deepest part, 3 blocks wide at that depth. See attached image.

I'm using a rod with the following enchantments:

    • Unbreaking III
    • Mending
    • Lure II
    • Luck of the sea III

Using this rod in the river gives me enchanted items, but in my self made pond it does not. I get fish and junk items, but nothing enchanted. I am assuming there is something wrong with the pond? Could someone help me identify what I might have done wrong here?

    Many thanks

posted a message on Java minecraft for m1 mac (ARM64)

Same here. I've been experimenting with what's possible on the M1. Stock (no shaders) it works well, but you can't play and record/stream at high resolutions at the same time. Using OBS I'm able to get about 30fps playing and recording at the same time, if I keep the game window to 720p, otherwise it starts to struggle. I can't record locally and stream whilst playing.

I'm running Optifine which make it run a little smoother and give you more control over graphics settings, but I'm still hoping an optimised version from Mojang brings a big performance gain.

posted a message on My first recorded world

    Hey everyone.

I've started my first Java world recently. I had played bedrock in the past on the Switch then decided to give it a go on my new Mac when I got it last month. I found an interesting seed and started recording. I didn't think anyone would watch my videos, so the first few were mostly unedited, but they started to, so as time went on I began putting more and more effort into editing.

What I'm looking for is some feedback on my videos and world. My aim is to improve and make them as good as they can be. I am learning a lot about Minecraft, recording and editing as I go, and making lots of mistakes. Best start with the most recent episodes as I've already learned the big lessons from the early days. Thanks in advance for your input.
