Let me know if you find any alternatives that look promising. I'll be looking for a second home site to post updates on my maps. I've got them on Curse.com, but I really don't like the forums there so I'll probably keep it project only.

Will really miss this forum. Nothing quite like it in the diversity of communities. Especially liked the maps forum and the survival forum.

Come on guys, just be happy for the creator!
It may be a smaller map, but it's well done and pretty unique. Don't judge before you check it out! It's actually a hybrid survival/adventure map and it's quite difficult to stay alive. I've enjoyed playing it a lot! -

Great work Matsi! Glad you are enjoying the map!
A few other players have recently figured out other pieces of the puzzle. I'm excited to see it all come together for the first players. Please tell me if you got a message upon escaping. I'm curious if that is working still.
Please note that I recently was made aware by these same players that the item duplication bug in minecraft with hopper clocks in 1.8 has been breaking some things. If you have tried things to solve the puzzles that haven't worked it is possible this also happened in your game. I am working this weekend to release an update fixing the issue and will give commands to players like you who have been playing a long time and may be suffering from the issue. Wish I'd figured it out sooner but apparently the bug only happens randomly and over a long time span hence only to players that have played for many hours.
I will distribute some commands that should fix the issue in in-progress games as soon as I have time. thanks, and I apologize that my bug-testing did not catch this issue.

Hey everyone! It's been awhile! Thanks so much for all the support on this our first map! TO date we have almost 19,000 downloads! Wow! Thanks so much everyone! This thread has definitely slowed down since many of our main youtubers finished but I will eventually return to the map for one final update to fix those stubborn spelling mistakes and maybe add on or two more features I've been tossing around.
Anyway, Just wanted to make you guys aware of the new stuff that has happened with the community the past 2 weeks! Our 3 map threads have been quite the past week but we haven't been absent just very busy on some new stuff.
We've started a server together that I've been working on a lot and is augmented by some command block modules which add new elements to survival similar to our maps. Examples are: lightning rods, desire lines, custom-generating structures in the wilderness as you explore and more! And we also played a UHC PvP event together. The vids for that just started coming out this week.
If you want to check out UHC or see the server videos soon, you can find all players who recorded below. Videos are coming every 2 days starting this monday:

Nice Bethel, so hehe, yes, that's a feature.
You must have gotten close to...something...inaccessible at this point.
Did you get a message when you escaped as well?
To clarify for you, the thread isn't dead, it's just that a bunch of other stuff happened with the community the past 2 weeks. We've started a server together that I've been working on a lot and also played a UHC PvP event together. The vids for that just started coming out this week. You'll see more Exiled vids again soon but we took a week break because of all that was going on!

Thanks for the compliment Shadow!
These larger maps I actually thought we were pacing decently well, hence the 3-month gap between Cave-In and the next in the series, Exiled.
But yeah, they can be quite long to play if you intend to fully experience each one. Still hoping to hear the good news that someone has beaten the full game. Been almost a month now! If you do a decent amount of exploring and think about what you've found and seen the puzzle should eventually come together for you. But in the meantime, most players have been just enjoying the unique survival challenge, which is the bigger part of the map.
Noticed you do a bit of map-work according to your description, any projects I should check out?

thanks Dblood! Glad to hear you are enjoying the challenge of this map! Post some pics of your game if you get the chance, I'd love to see how you are getting on!
In other news, at the urging of James and some of the other youtubers, I've begun practicing making videos for the new OathBros channel! Right now it only has the trailer for Exiled but we are planned on much, much more! Including some survival vids from our brand-new SMP server with custom command-block modules and terrain generation, events with the community including a UHC event of which videos will come out soon, and also map-building and command-block vids by the OathBros team!
Consider subscribing if any of that sounds interesting! In the future we will also be consolidating our work onto a website we're in the process of designing which will include a forums section where you guys can chat with each other and give us suggestions for upcoming map projects!
As practice, I've started recording my own single-player journey through the hostile world of Exiled. I will try my best to avoid spoilers until the other major players have uncovered areas. Here is Episode #1, my very first video!
Please give me lots of feedback about ways that I can improve my quality and commentary! As I said this series is mainly to help me practice so the OathBros channel vids will look more professional. In the future all vids will be 720p but I derped on recording this so you have 480p for the first episode and no ingame sounds. I've fixed both problems for future recordings.

haha, yes Bethel I hid it well. Part of the reason was to prevent escape via enderpearl glitch but also just because it looked better.
Nice job James, that farm will come in handy! Pigman farm next?

Quite the adventure guys! I love watching this map be played, it's very different seeing it all through you guys' perspective! Good job on avoiding death this time James! There were several close moments! I think the armor is helping.
Pure, needs to fill out his suit though. Why didn't he take your advice and get the two pieces you discovered? He's like: "ok sure" and then walks away...

Sometimes I think you do this stuff on purpose so we feel compelled to comment.
Anyway, love the videos buddy, can't wait to see more Exiled!

Well I certainly understand not wanting to take the challenge part out of it. Keep in mind though that the survival maps are most fun if they provide good opportunities for advancement. I'm not saying make it easy with water right near spawn (that'd be lame and ruin the theme) but maybe make cobblestone or stone somehow accessible through some hard work? Speaking from experience with my own survival maps, a lot of players are motivated by opportunity hence if large portions of the minecraft tech tree will always be inaccessible that might be discouraging for some. Regardless the map idea sounds fun though. I like how you take mobs in a radius around you. Lot of experimentation potential.
As for gardens: I disagree. I scaled my vegetable farms quite a bit using the dirt manufacturing trick and have like 100 wheat squares now. Despite the slow growth due to lack of water I still get tons of wheat, you just need to make your farms about twice as big and you'll get as much as you did with watered gardens provided you light it well with glowstone. It'll soon feed you all you could want. Mushroom stew is by far the best food on the map though until you get chicken. I just like variety.

Nice idea! It's cool that you made this possible on ANY map via 1-click commands, good job!
Just a note, it is always possible to escape, and quite quickly from being stranded in the nether. Pretty much every nether fortress has at least 3 diamond and often obsidian as well. I know this from design of our map Exiled which came out a couple weeks ago which seems to share some elements with this idea. It's a bit different though. We actually screened all the fortresses near the start of our map to make the "exile" last a bit longer.
The fun thing about the nether in 1.8 is it has almost everything you need for survival. This was part of the inspiration for our map as well which has been in the works since January.
Some tips for you guys playing:
- if you bring seeds you can utilize the chicken jockeys to start a chicken farm
- you can manufacture more dirt using the gravel found in the nether and any dirt you bring
- on hard difficulty killing zombie pigmen has a chance to summon zombies. Beat these zombies with your fists to get many more and you'll eventually get zombie villagers for curing into villagers, iron, carrots, potatoes, and armor! Building a village will enable a lot on this map. Don't know if the creators thought of this or not, but it's something I've seen done and done myself while being stranded in the nether.
skeletons riding skeletal horses huh? That's getting a bit away from survival but I see the motivation. Gives you a horse with the saddles in fortresses right? If you kill the rider? We had the same idea.
It's hard but 1.8 nether is very survivable! The main issue is lack of cobblestone and wood. Wood can be solved via bringing saplings. Cobble through a cobble generator. In Exiled this can be utilized in vanilla via a spring in your prison cell. On this map, things would be tougher. You couldn't make a cobble generator unless the creators placed water via commands (you should consider doing this btw), thus every recipe with cobble (quite a few) is missing. So bring a lot with you!
I think I'm going to check this out later when I have the time, great idea guys!

Just wanted to let everyone know. The thread has been quiet but there are still some youtubers playing it!
Tnforfotkcab is up to Episode 14 and just finished the Spider Nest today, making an important discovery!
Our new youtuber HowINOX has put out a few more as well. Make sure to check out their channels if you are wanting to see more Cave-In action! Hopefully they will post their own episodes for you guys though.

nah, the chest can stay. Players should eventually get the supplies for beacons and enchant tables if they explore enough and I know it already takes quite some exploring and traveling to find those supplies. Unless you found it really close I think it's fine. 168 Days is a fair amount of time to go before escaping.

Nice job Bethel! Nope no questions. I figured players would escape if they explored enough. There's no way to keep people imprisoned if they work hard, and we didn't try to completely prevent it (what fun would that be?) The option is just delayed. I for one think that feature makes this map fun. I expected many players would opt to escape before figuring out everything about the map. As you said, it would be a prisoner's first thought! Glad you are embracing the story.
Enjoy your sunlight and extra supplies!
Also, I know it wasn't a normal world but your Final Battleground runs DID have sunlight, albeit filtering through deadly radiation. Did you enjoy the challenge of the map? I thought it might be a scenario you would like, but I do agree with you about the red! So much of it!

Some things you can look at and learn, others interact with, but I can't really say much more without giving things away. This map has a lot of mystery and I don't want to ruin that. I'll leave it to you guys to work together and see if you can figure it out. The puzzle-solving part of the map will come together more late-game. It'll take some exploring and surviving first. Also, it's optional. You can just play this like a survival map but we thought it'd be more fun if there was more purpose behind everything that players could discover. Anyway, you've just begun, Don't worry about it for now!
All I meant by my comment is if you run across something that clearly looks important but you don't know what to do with it. Take a screenshot of it as you found it. It might make putting things together easier later and then you won't have to worry whether you broke it or not as you have pics showing how it was.

Exiled broke 500 downloads!
Thanks everyone for your great support for this map!!! Looks like many players are progressing quite far! I'm still surprised at how many hours some of you are willing to play a week lol!
I can’t wait for someone to begin to solve the puzzles in this map. It'll take a little thinking.
So far everyone is just focused on exploring and surviving which is fine. That part is super fun too!
One piece of advice I will give:
I’ve had several players ask if they should be hesitant to break interesting-looking things. We thought of this and for the most part I think it will be difficult for a player to ruin their chances, most of it is fairly foolproof. However, if you break things you may make it harder for you to figure stuff out later. Some things may become clearer later if you leave them be.
One thing that might help is if you take little notes as you explore or some screenshots. For instance: a screenshot when you first enter an interesting area. Just so that if you do mine things you can later look back at your screenshots and know what it all looked like pristine.
