I didn’t want to sound like one of the update beggars. However now that the update is here... Thanks for all the great work Mumfrey. This is an indispensable mod.
"This change to ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/versions/LiteLoader1.6.4/LiteLoader1.6.4.json completely fixed the problem.

I know it is "supposed to work" and I am sure it does by itself, but I cannot get it to do so with LiteLoader 1.6.4 chained to the current recommended Forge version (898). It crashes on startup each time.
I am having the same problem with liteloader-1.6.4-00 chained to minecraftforge-universal-1.6.4-9.11.0.898 crashing. The problem went away when I removed InventoryTweaks-MC1.6.4-1.57-dev-b81 from my mods folder.
Edit: I tested carefully. It is definitely adding InventoryTweaks-MC1.6.4-1.57-dev-b81 that kills it for me. Otherwise it is fine.
I cannot see that Mojang has taken the slightest note of complaints that they have made boats nearly useless.
The boats in minecraft are like canoes or at least coracles. In reality you can look left and right in a boat and still go straight (ish) which you used to be able to do in MC. In reality you can side slip a boat left and right which you used to be able to do in MC. In reality you can back paddle a boat to slow or reverse, which you used to be able to do in MC. For players who never used boats much this is no thing. You can still cross an ocean and crash your boat into the other shore. However much of any map is water. The boat game mechanic made oceans and rivers and canals a considerable part of the game. The loss of most of boat functionality is a big deal and a significant depreciation of the game mechanics.
One compliment and one bug report.
First I am running the beta for 1.6.2 and I really missed macro keybind when it was gone. It adds so much to gameplay. Thankyou Mumfrey for such great work.
And, I have "/home $$h" bound to the "1" key so "OVR + 1" to get the home prompt. It always worked in the previous version, but sometimes works and sometimes not in the beta. I cannot see a pattern. It usually works the first time, then stops after a while, then sometimes starts working again. Also the interface is shifted a little to the left so that the "L" in "L MOUSE" is a bit cut off.
There is no need to be able to toggle the new and old controls for boats since boats always could be steared without the left right and back keys. What is ekrsome about this change is that boats needed some improvement and instead mojang has made them worse. In particular the boat stearing controls you use to be able to use were analagous to side slipping and back paddling. Without these the boat is basically unmanageable and will only go in the direction you are looking. Gods help us, in order to slow down now you have to look directly away from where you are going. This is unmanagable and pointless.
I am an avid canoeist, and one of the things I have noticed is that a boat goes over a lily pad without interference. Why in minecraft lily pads act like naval mines I have no idea. At the very least the boat should break the lily pad, not the other way around.
I have heard others say that boats suck, but I use them all the time. The server I play on has quite a few canals and an extensive waterway so I can travel large distances quickly. Boats, once you get used to steering them are the best method of distance transportation in the game. They do not require the infrastructure that minecarts do and they can roam back and forth not restricted to rail. However all this is moot if lily pads are not revised, because as soon as you run into one of those fragile floating leaves, BOOM!
I am a big fan of boats. However they need three improvements and these all would make them behave more like a prospector's canoe (how appropriate is that for minecraft?) than a fragile raft.
boats need to be durable
boats need to carry goods like a chest
boats should not rotate the player when they come about

Otherwise fantastic as far as I am concerned.
