Hm, it seems to not be so easy. Does anyone have an easy solution to put Minecraft.jar into the starter?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to do so. There's only an executable version for Linux and others, and that's it. No installer or anything; you just download it and run it. The easiest way is to just put the .jar into a desktop, open the terminal and input these commands:
    cd $HOME/Desktop
    chmod +x Minecraft.jar

The last command will make the .jar executable, so you will be able to launch it with just a double click on the file. That's the real easiest solution, so you're on your own if you want it to still put it in the Dash screen or similar something (assuming you're running the normal Ubuntu).

I took the "Linux x64" version from www.java.com/de/download/linux_manual.jsp , because from a quick research the "RPM" version didn't look like what I wanted. Then I followed the instructions that are linked next to the download:

    tar zxvf jre-8u91-linux-x64.tar.gz

    and then

    sudo apt-get install openjdk-9-jre

. It wasn't in the Software Center, I don't know why.

Get rid of openjdk-9-jre by inputting this command:

    sudo apt purge openjdk-9-jre

Java 9 is on early alpha and it's not yet released to the public (at the time I typed this). I don't know why you would download a tarball of Java 8, but then install Java 9.

Here's the easier way: Input these following commands on the terminal. Purge Java 9 first, as I said, it's on alpha and it's not yet released to the public.

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
    sudo apt update
    sudo apt install oracle-java8-installer

After a while, the screen will change, telling you to agree to the Oracle terms first before any real installation begins. There's no mouse support, so use your arrow keys on the keyboard and press the "ENTER" key to select something.

Once it's installed, Minecraft should run fine. You may need to right click, and open with "Oracle Java 8 Runtime" (also, check the box to set it as default) to get it to work.

Make sure it is working (type in "java -version" without the quotes). If it says "java version 1.8.0_insertversionhere", then you're good to go.

    dediko39@dediko39-GA-78LMT-S2:~$ java -version
    java version "1.8.0_91"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_91-b14)

Since I first encountered this error, there are a couple things I tried. I tried uninstalling then reinstalling both Java and Minecraft. Yes, I have tried rebooting and force shutdown. I have tried disabling UAC, I have tried creaating an excepton for it on Procees something something protection. I have tried insalling previous and future versions of Java. I just can't figure out what happens. (The laptop uses DDR4 memory, btw, if that will help)

These solutions is not going to work; it's a graphics driver problem. Besides, the game removes these resource packs because it's not compatible.

Enable VBOs and Vsync in the video settings menu. Looks like it's a memory leak, as all Intel users able to run Minecraft previously are affected.

    Quote from Druael»

Right-Click the task bar at the bottom and select Task Manager -> Processes -> Find the Client, and right click it -> Create dump file

Core dumps are only useful for debugging errors. It will not enable anything to run something, or be useful to an average gamer, as it's wasn't used until a program has crashed.
What you did is to dump that specific process via MS Windows's Task Manager, something that's Microsoft-related, not Java.

Read this here before bothering to adjust your RAM again.

Also, make sure you have 64-bit Java installed.

TL;DR: Too much RAM and you get lag spikes thanks to the fact that more allocated RAM means more lazy workload on Java's garbage collector. Too little and the same thing happens since Java needs to try to make space for new stuff all the time. Try to find a good balance.

Like noname_42 said, the launcher doesn't have access to the .minecraft folder.

Make sure the .minecraft folder itself isn't marked hidden or read-only in the properties, or else the launcher cannot find/write it.

Try deleting the .minecraft folder (don't forget to backup your saves!) if neither of these work, then startup the launcher again. The launcher will regenerate the folder.

My son plays minecraft and after a WIN 10 upgrade it no longer launches. I get the "pixel format not accelerated" message and have tried updating the video drivers, but it didn't seem to help. If you can help getting this running again it would be much appreciated. Following is the "dx" report - http://paste.ubuntu.com/14513178/

My other son has the same PC and both were upgraded to win 10 and my other son's minecraft launches fine. I am not very savvy with PC's so if you have any advice please share in simple/non-technical language.

    Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, one of your son's PC is too old to run Minecraft. Since Intel chipsets (the ones your one son have) are no longer supported by Intel, the game will crash if it's 1.7.4 or newer, like 1.8.9.

Your only best bet is to buy a better PCs for your son.

For now, however, you can still use Minecraft version 1.7.2 and older since it's the Intel chipset.

    Quote from jonathanpecany»

when i play my minecraft it thinks when i play minecraft on single mode it thinks its a server when its not

Starting in Minecraft 1.3 and newer, starting a singleplayer game now silently starts the minecraft server (and runs in a background). As you play singleplayer, you're actually playing on your own local server; hence why you're able to chat, and type in commands like /seed.

The reason Singleplayer and Multiplayer was mixed into one because it makes modding easier to make just 1 mod for both versions. Also, whenever Mojang wants to push a bug fix, it applies to both single and multiplayer simultaneously.

Thank you for the info!! I definitely appreciate it! Here's another question then - if the game band is used on the desktop that runs Windows, can it be used on a Macbook also? We have that option, also.

Yes, it also works on MacBook (Minecraft uses "Lightweight Java Game Library" as its game engine, therefore supporting various OSes), as long as you currently have the newest model of all the Macs (for now). If you somehow got an older MacBook, you might have to fiddle around the graphics settings to run the game optimally.

I am on Windows 10 64-bit and have Java 8 1.8_60 for 64 bit installed.

My nVidia is updated to the latest version.

    I've tried with old versions.

I've uninstalled it and reinstalled a clean copy.

    I've tried allocating more RAM.

All to no avail, please help!

Try updating your drivers; do NOT use auto-updater ones, as they won't do the job for you.
