I'd imagine that pipeline feeding to the GPU would be a boon and I can see how it would be useful for single-player. But I don't see any net improvement on servers unless I'm missing something.
Either way, I'm all for this as it forces MC to be multithreaded which would help everyone anyway.
The improvement would be client side only really. (I think) in minecraft collisions are calculated client side while connected to servers, so it would still speed up while connected.
OpenCL driver and GPU support is currently minimal at best. It would obviously have to be optional and in that case, why even bother?
Really? I thought it was more or less supported all around, but yeah some raedon kid is gonna be angry with mojang if they dont make it optional. Still would be nicer for those with lower end cpus
The idea is to use Open CL, to graphically accelerate the physics and collision calculations usually done on the cpu in minecraft. It would dramatically increase minecraft's preformance because the gpu is meant for parallelism... and there's a lot of blocks in minecraft. I don't understand why mojang hasn't thought of this yet, it does not require a whole lot of programming (well at least for them), and there is no downside because Open CL picks the fastest processor on your computer based on your calculation. If you're really curious about how Open CL works, http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Open+CL
Do you need any more redstoners, I am really good with redstone and I can build a minigame. I am also very good with all the VoxelPlugins, mostly VoxelSniper. I am also a member on The Voxel Box.
