Okay but that doesn't explain "why". What would make me want to use this? I understand this is a WIP but why post about it if it's basically useless other than a couple new aesthetics blocks? I can download a million other mods if that's all I wanted.

I just don't see the point of what you're doing, unless all the mod is for, is to demonstrate that you are in the beginning stage of modding minecraft. Which is okay. But to post useless mods is, in my opinion, a waste of time. You can hop on IRC channels and discuss mod development there. But this mod's idea is inherently flawed is my point.

I actually do agree that it's idea is flawed, as I don't exactly know how to put the idea into words without it being branded as an overambitious mod, which, if it gains attention and generates hype, ends up being not as everyone would expect from any hype, I posted it to get it some early attention before I get the main part of the mod into its full swing, so that it can be played before a full release happens.

To put some of the main idea into words, I'm going to shift all of the creatures I have made and will make into a new dimension for post nether/end content, and a new functionality block to go along with these creatures.

The current title is actually just a working title that fits the current status of the mod, a simple aesthetics mod.

    suspiciously like Minecraft^3.

I actually didn't know there was a Minecraft^3, time to think of a new title!

    Quote from DigitalAristotle

    Yeah but why?

I don't see the point of why you would add anything of this other than to experiment with learning how to mod minecraft.

This is actually a remake of an older mod I had made back in 1.1, currently I'm just re-adding blocks from that and adding more decorative blocks, while also experimenting with new mobs, at some point I'm going to make some new AI behaviors if I can for some much more special mobs.

VarietyPlus^2 is my solo attempt to expand Minecraft into a much larger, more filled game. I will be adding many more fantastic creatures, more blocks of both the aesthetic kind, and the functional kind. Alongside these will be new biomes in the long run, each with their own coloring, as well as their own flora and fauna.

    Current Features

Four new blocks, one practically useless (For now) atmosphere animal, and one new item.

Spawn Biomes: Plains, Forests, and Rivers.

The Etherium is functionally similar to a cow, appearing in groups of 5 - 10, they keep in areas matching their own colors, eating a diet of grass within their area, they remain safe due to their ability to blend with their environment.

From the top left: Checkerboard Wool, Large Bricks, Large Cobblestone, Dirt Bricks.

    Checkerboard Wool:
Crafted from two white wool and two black wool, it's shapeless and gives you eight Checkerboard Wool blocks.

Large Bricks: Made from four brick BLOCKS, shapeless, gives two large bricks. I'll probably re-balance this later.

Large Cobblestone: Four cobblestone, shapeless, gives one.

Dirt Bricks: Four dirt bricks smelted from dirt in a furnace, shapeless, as strong as cobblestone, might re-balance hardness.

    - Added Etherium
    - First 'Release'

    Known Bugs
-Etherium eats grass without moving its head. (I might remove it's grass eating AI.)
-Etherium doesn't look at player (This one is intended)
-Etherium doesn't move for a few moments sometimes. (I plan not to fix this, it adds to its blending with its surroundings idea.
-Etherium has no drop. (This will be fixed in the next version, promise!)
-Etherium doesn't run when hit. (Again, will be fixed next version, promise!

    -Add new hostile mob.
    -More blocks!
    -Etherium Breeding.
    -Special suprise.

    Installation and Download

    1. Install Minecraft Forge's newest build, found at its own site.
    2. Download the mod and DO NOT unzip it.
    3. In .minecraft create a mods folder if their isn't one already.
    4. Place the Zip file inside this folder.
    5. If all went well, it should appear in your mods list in Minecraft.
    6. If installing a new version, ensure you delete the last version.

A new update called 1.1_2, this adds multiplayer support (You now need modloaderMP alongside modloader, sadly) and a new block and item.

Item: Cobble Slabs, put a cobble in the grid

Block: Cobble Path, Shapeless, three cobble slabs with dirt.

I modded your mod for private use myself. I quite liked the content you brought (tools excluded) and decided to see what I could do with it. My modding skills are very limited at the moment, so my first fixed verions (for private use) has made the following changes to your mod (for private use!)

1.The recipe for Thatch now produces 4 instead of 1 Thatch. This made an ASTOUNDING difference in making Thatch roofing plausible, and balanced versus the other materials.
2.The recipe for Adobe is unchanged, but the output is increased. I had to tinker to find a ballanced number for this. upping it to 9 was beyond excessive, making Adobe seem altogether too easy to mass produce. 6 was even a bit too much, so I found a perfect ballance at 3 Adobe from 9 hard dirt.
3.I made custom 64x textures of all the blocks excluding hay, which has proven difficult at that resolution

I made these tweaks privately in an effort to help you get this mode a bit more appealing to players of harder gamemodes (normal, Hard, and hardcore). I have been working also to get a custom model for your pots and to test privately to see if I can add unique function to your pots to make them not just pretty, but useful. My thought was to keep the base the same size, but to make the top lip the width of a cactus. It's a very subtle change, but once I iron out the kinks, if you're interested in my private progress (I'm emphasizing private. I have no intention to override you, as I'm merely curious.) I would love to contribute all I can to making this mod become as popular as I believe it deserves to be. I'd love to talk via PM regarding ideas, if you are interested in my insight, but if not, I'll consider monitoring this mod and enjoying it with my personal twist.

The custom pot model has me intrigued, and I think I balanced thatch and hardened bricks a bit better in 1.1.1, thatch may seem a bit low but it burns fast, making it useful for burning out areas, and roofing too.

Edit: and the 64x textures have me intrigued as well.

Wow nice job! mind if i make a vid on it?

Im quite late in replying, but due to me fixing my MCP and PC, I would love you to.

And at previous posts mentioning imbalance, im releasing a quickfix, 1.1.1 soon, as Thatch, Hay, and finished wood havent been burning till now, along with lowering the requirements for thatch/finished wood/adobe.

Have a picture of the next update, which adds adobe bricks!

    Quote from SKAzini

The dirt tools have strength as stone? Why not get cobble and not whats coal to make dirt tools.

The tools were made on the following thought:

You get stuck in a cave, only a few sticks and some dirt, maybe some coal and cobble, you can make the tools from those materials and leave said cave.

Though at some point I might change the tools to be between wood and stone.

I have began work on my third texture pack, This time with a more Dark-Light style. I was inspired by Jungle Ruins and Xenocontendi for this pack, I recommend you look a them if you haven't!

Its still a WIP and needs a proper name, but it seems nice enough to be posted in its current.

Release will hopefully be before December.
