The server is whitelisted for right now, but won't be starting January 1. Chest locking is going to be available to everyone, and I may remove LWC and use WorldGuard to lock chests instead. It's been a while since I've messed around with WorldGuard's capabilities, so I'll have to see how well it actually works.

Hello fellow Minecrafters. I’ve started a small community server and I’m in need of players. If you’re looking for something different, I have confidence you’ll find it on my server. Here are some distinct features:

    - Teleportation is completely disabled (see explanation below). This includes /home, /sethome, /tpa, etc.

    - PvP is enabled, but griefing isn't allowed.

    - Items aren't handed out by the server, but players are more than welcome to give a helping hand to newcomers.

    - Server is independently funded. As a result, there are no donation perks that create an unfair advantage nor will there ever be.

    - The economy will be based entirely on items and trading. There will be no money plugin whatsoever.

    - All staff members including me will be required to pay in survival mode and will not be able to spawn items, to teleport, or to do anything that would give them an unfair advantage in survival. This means that everything you see on the server has been built completely in survival.

    - There will be unofficial “factions” with their own unique flags, names, and ability to claim territory. Because griefing will not be tolerated, these factions can still compete, but only economically, in territory wars, and in combat.

    - Factions will be able to sell land to one another.

    - Fire, TNT, and creepers will all be enabled.

    - The server-wide difficulty will be set to hard, except during special events.

    - The server’s seed will not be available to anyone. This is to prevent people from using mapping programs as they are not in the spirit of vanilla gameplay.

    - Only the most basic, essential plugins will be installed. This is done so that order can be maintained while keeping lag and bugs to a minimum. These plugins are GroupManager, DynMap (cave view disabled), WorldGuard, WorldEdit (a requirement for WorldGuard), LogBlock, and LWC.

Why the hate on teleportation? In completely vanilla Minecraft, teleportation doesn’t exist with the exception of respawning and end/nether portals. When teleportation commands and plugins are introduced, a key element of multiplayer is removed: the creation and management of railways, tunnels, bridges, and other methods of travel. By prohibiting anyone to teleport with commands, I expect a greater level of cooperation between player factions and the reintroduction of a forgotten element of gameplay.

Why no economy plugin? To start, when players want to trade but can’t teleport or ship items via commands, they have to make a choice between settling near each other, traveling a long distance, or creating a method to transport items. Secondly, I find that the money on servers with money plugins is often not worth much and that its value can change fairly quickly and unpredictably.

Why do staff have to play in survival? When staff can spawn items freely, they often do it when they shouldn’t and occasionally give counterfeit items away. This creates a lot of problems, so restricting that ability completely eliminates the issue.

Why not have the factions plugin? It seems to me that the factions plugin, for some reason, tends to encourage people to want to fight and grief each other for no apparent reason. By having groups of players that still cooperate and can claim land without the use of said particular plugin, things seem to run more smoothly. That and random, abandoned pieces of land don’t get claimed.

The server will be up and running 24/7 by January 1. In the meantime, I’ll be accepting applications and those accepted are welcome to join and participate in the closed beta. This server will be no means appeal to a younger audience, but age will not be a requirement to join. For those interested, please PM me or reply to this thread with your in-game name and why you want to join. Thanks :)

    - Cameron

posted a message on Server Team Wanted

I have run Minecraft servers in the past and have the capability and intention to do so again. I am aiming to create not a massive hub server, but a environment that resembles the earlier days of the multiplayer scene: peaceful, cooperative survival with a market economy. Before I dedicate resources to further this ambition, I'd like to make sure a server could operate for more than a few days in my absence. To do that, I've made this post and left contact information at the bottom to see if enough people are interested in applying for staff positions.

    Server outline:

    Staff:

The various staff members are to be as non-intrusive as possible and are encouraged to play survival alongside other members. There will be times when item spawning and creative mode are used, but this should be done sparingly and in a way that does not devalue the achievements of the survival portion of the game.

    Architect:

The Architect's main job is to design and update the various server-sponsored builds. Anything not built in survival is probably, at the very least, influenced in some way by the architect. There is only one Architect.

    Moderator:

Moderators wield the ability to ban, kick, and mute players that are found to be violating the server's terms of service. There can be many moderators.

    Marketing Director:

The Marketing Director's job is to advertise the server on various websites and to encourage server members to vote for the server on those websites.

    Economy:

The server economy will be completely laissez faire with the exception of trading areas created by admins inside of server-sponsered areas..

    Rules (rough draft):

    1. Don't grief

    2. Don't spam

    3. Don't advertise

    4. Don't collect personally identifiable information

    5. Don't abuse exploits

You know? I really like this guy. He didn't go overboard with the title in an attempt to lure people in only to have them leave after 5 minutes. He got straight to the point: "Join us for a waste of time." I commend you for your marketing technique

Has anyone else used minecarts as a method of storing items instead of just transferring them? I've done it a few times and it's kinda cool, assuming you don't kill all entities.

I'm curious: how do you store all your extra stuff? Below is an image of a typical storage shed that I use, although it is unfinished.

I'd love to see your photos below :P

    Who Are You?

Our server is an attempt to recreate the original minecraft experience before minigames and super-servers became the multiplayer craze.

    Why Us?

    1. Because we're a vanilla server, we're always updated to the most recent version of minecraft. This means we can provide new content and game updates much more quickly than the traditional server can. Updates are fast and seamless.

    2. Hacked clients are incredibly rare on snapshot servers. While they can exist, an overwhelmingly large majority of malicious players are simply unable to get their hands on one. Even if a player is cheating or being disruptive, we have ways of finding out.

    3. Our staff have a lot of experience. Cmw255, the owner, has been running a server off and on since Beta 1.4. That's 4 and a half years.

The current co-owner, Jymba98, has helped the owner since Minecraft's first full release, version 1.0.

    Doesn't Vanilla = Anarchy?

In our case, no. Thanks to command blocks, we're able to protect land and ultimately prevent griefing. Anyone can request that their land be protected assuming they have a reasonable amount of land claimed.

    I Have More Questions!

We're sure you do, which is exactly why you're free to join us anytime and ask questions in-game. Admins and members are both willing to help.

But before you ask any questions, do us a favor and read all the books in your inventory!

posted a message on Lead Architect Needed

I'm in the process of making a new server. The technical end is being taken care of quite well by me and my associate. However, we both lack the skills necessary to build anything other than a solid-colored square.

We're looking for an experienced builder that can assist us with creating the spawn and other functional utility structures such as PvP arenas and shops.
