Agreed, game used to be so much better back then :(

The thing I miss most is its simplicity. It was just you, alone, in a world full of potential, that you could shape as you please. You didn't have to worry about endermen showing up and griefing the terrain in the middle of the night, or rushing to get a farm set up so you wouldn't starve, or the little fairy tinkles every time you kill something (and getting an enchanting setup ready so you can use those before you died). And you were truly alone, there were no squidwards with a poorly implemented trading system, using an entirely unnecessary currency item, who live in little shacks because they can't be bothered to improve upon their town at all. In fact, any structures you come across were bound to be yours (well, except dungeons). In short, I miss the sandbox aspect being the main focus of the game. There was adventuring, yes, but its purpose was only to find epic building locations; there was also pvp, but back then it was more a simple gentleman's duel, not a race to see who could get the best enchantments. And the best part of it was knowing that the wasn't finished - that there was yet more potential on the horizon. This is why I can't go back to an older version - simply knowing how the game progressed kills the feeling for me.

Now, you may say, but these features make Minecraft more of a game, but, to be honest, I don't very much care for the actual 'game' so much as the sandbox. The 'game' itself feels tired and rehashed - better stuff from experience (which, by the way, the fastest way to collect experience is also manifestly the most boring), repetitive hack and slash, and ridiculous trading (overpriced and overpowered stuff - basically favoring tedium again). Now, people blame the terrain generator for this, and in some sense, they're right about the lack of variety and randomness killing adventuring, but for me what really causes the problem for me is the emphasis on tedium and fighting.

Sounds nice, but it might be a problem for the server owners.
