posted a message on Structures "fix" in 1.6.4 - what exactly does this mean?
    Quote from watermine

Does someone know a tool which scans an entire world for structures?
I have a server map, some 10k blocks across and can not rely on every nether fortress/witch hut getting visited before 1.7

i don't know how well this would work, or if it would work at all, but you could install the world anchor/chunk loader mod and go into MCedit and place the chunk loaders where the structures are, then load the world, then when you updated to 1.7 the loaders would disappear because its a mod

    Quote from liran

I don't care about the latest releases. I automate EVERYTHING, my goal is to be able to have a logistics pipes system avalible everywhere (AE just doesn't cut it) and request something, I try cramping in as many mods as I can at once, it used to be easy with 1.5 but for some reason although I only have 1 jarmod (forge) my game crashes when I add mods, when I modify already made modpacks, it's fine though O_o
I got about 160 mods running and I want more, more and more. I currently play only on singleplayer because I like adding mods whenever I want, instead of offering an admin, even if the server uses a private pack. (I play on 1.6 but in the near future I may start playing on servers again, especially if I could contribute to a private pack server's pack).
Last time I played unmodded was in 1.1, when I was freshly after my noob era (since beta 1.4 - when I started playing, but during the 1.9 prereleases my noob era was done) I do remember using some sort of modpack for beta 1.5, with portalgun, mo' creatures, airship and some other mods...

Thats like me, except my noob days where ultra accelerated compared, i started in beta 1.7.3, just kept and kept learned until i was basically out of the noob stage, when i hit beta 1.8 (i was still kinda noob with potions and enchanting(added in 1.8 adventure update) , but i had read about them before and knew enough to not be a noob) i finally got my stuff together to mod when i saw IC^2/buildcraft, failed a couple of times, until i installed the zeppelin mod as "proof of concept that i can mod". After i was able to finally install IC^2, and this was with out forge, when you had to install 4 things in the right order and THEN install IC^2, i played that (spawned in the newly redone swamp) and eventually installed buildcraft. I remember just being so happy when i went into a cave and i was like "ITS A RAINBOW OF ORES" , good times......good times........ i still play some vanilla and like to do plugins, mod packs, and other stuff. speaking of which, how do you get so many mod working? i have one and i can only get 40ish mods before it crashes. i have i hi end computer too (can run a server and play FTB on the same computer) , maybe the mods are just really resource intensive? (build craft, biomes o plenty, hi lands, aether, ext)

posted a message on Snapshot 13w42a Ready for Testing!
    Quote from Mike_Lemming

hmmmm. im kind of new to all this. does this mean that the download is stable or might crash often but wont brake the minecraft files. Anyway, i think ill wait till the official update so I have more to play with :P

I doubt the red dragon but they must be working on something big :D I mean, they cant have been spending this long on just creating these small updates, which even though they are awesome, they wouldn't take this long

snapshots are like the "Build of the week" for minecraft , often times they fix bugs, but new ones appear(often small, not game corrupting ones) . As you can see there are often new features, you can play them by using the (new) launcher. You create a new profile, enable snapshots, and then select "latest version" (which will automatically put you on the latest snapshot). its recommended to choose another directory. (where the default is in your/bla/file/system/.minecraft , you can change it to say Users/Admin/Desktop/MinecraftSnapshots) this means that your servers/worlds/resource packs are completely separate, so if it does break minecraft, it will only effect those files (not your 1.6.4 files). if your going to play one of your worlds, make a back up. (altho you shouldn't yet, considering there is a huge terrain change and they still need to "stich" the old and new terrain) just remember, if you load a new world in the current version all the new stuff will disappear (because it hasn't been added yet!) , Have fun testing!

could you add a minecraft 0.30 terrain generator, (minecraft classic) , you can play that version of minecraft with the new launcher so i wouldn't expect it to be too hard to get the terrain generation code.

you said that you where working on linux and mac maybe, but would't by extension the linux version work on mac because mac OSX is *nix, just like you can run the linux version of mine craft on mac and you can run mac programs (unix programs) on linux?

posted a message on Cubic Chunks: Reduced lag, infinite height, and more [The #1 Suggestion Thread of all time!][Updated! 6/14]
soo i cant fully tell if this a been suggested but, what about saving the light values as images IE in each 16*16 chunk there is a 16*16 pixel image on the top and the bottom of the chuck (in the coding not the game) so say chunk X which is 5 chunks above chuck Y need to pass light data down, well once the chunks are loaded and saved they have an image. lets say we have an air chunk and we place one block. the image on top of the chunk would be totally white, representing full light value, (day light,15) the image on the bottom of the chunk would be most white but with one gray pixel (representing light level 14) , then when you update the light value of a chunk high up, the high up chunk would compare its image to the images to all the chunks below it and make the changes. so if i made a change 160 blocks up i wouldn't have to recalculate all the light data i would just have to recalculate the final light value of each chunk (the images), so instead of recalculating 16*16*160 blocks i would just have to recalculate 10 16*16 pixel images. of course lighting in loaded chucks would be normal, but get its data from the image and do all the small lighting calculations of each block in the chuck.

posted a message on Detailed Tutorial: How to install OptiFine with Forge.
I'd like to note that the steps are almost identical on Ubuntu linux. When you install the installer, remember to go into properties (of the file) and allow executing. Where as in windows its in appdata, in Ubuntu its /home/yourUserAccount/home (accessed through the file manager called "Files" ) , when in home do control and h to unhide the files, and then theres minecraft and the rest is history. Though, it is considerable easier to install because Ubuntu comes with a built in java archive manager thing, though you can get 7zip if you perfer (Note: java is multi platform, so you could copy the file onces its modded and put it on mac, Windows or linux and it will work)

soo wait, do you have the xbox or pc version. The pc version is much better. Once (if ever) you get bored of "vanilla" (unmodded) mine craft, some mods to look into are Aether 2 mods, twilight forest mod, Buildcraft, Industrial craft^2, biomes o plenty (or IC^2) , tekkit volts technic launcher. And one of my favorite server plugins, Avatar the last air bender plugin

useful, but im trying to get a server in ubunut desktop, im kinda new to ubuntu, i am able download and run the server, but it seems ALL servers get their files from my home folder IE, i can put the server jar anywhere and it will always get the files from the home folder, i want it to get the files localy, IE when on mac or windows i always have my servers seprated in differnt folders (dirrectories) so my modded server and my vannila server would be competly seperate, any help would be useful
