Hmm, if the trouble is that the wolves are all mixed up, then a good solution is coloring by family. Make a bunch of pens and put signs on them that say any dye color, then dye them with two wolves per color. Then sort them into the respective pens. Breed them all and when a pen gets too crowded, make a new pen and a new family, and it helps to color the new family a similar color to the original.
Good idea, I can get rid of a lot of my useless cocoa beans, I hate cookies.
I've tried that and it was better than what I have since they dont always get up when a mob attacks me. But they always push each other out (fences have gotten really buggy in 1.5). Maybe I could do something underground?
I read a trick where you keep two wolves and two minecarts, one wolf in each. You keep them close but high up with a gap in between, so a baby plops out but isn't near them. Or you could group them off in fenced areas, a certain amount in each.
For the most part his statement IS just another day in minecraft. I guarantee there is at least one dungeon/mineshaft within 200 blocks of your home. Give us seed and coords and I bet somebody can find one nearby.
Yeah, just another minecraft day if you have no life. Just a question, do you live in your mother's basement?
As you can see, I'm trying to make an army of wolves :P. But I can't find any organized breeding system for these dogs. I don't necessarily mean lazy breeding systems but anything that you may find helpful. I've tried water but baby wolves die in water.
I have found 5 abandoned mineshafts just in the vicinity of my home area, a stronghold, probably dozen+ dungeons, but I have yet to find a dead end in a Minecraft cave. Well of course I exaggerate but still...
Wow I hate people who act like this is just another day in minecraft.
Dig 2 blocks down from the surface, and have pistons that push glowstone into you when you're at that level. (Just a lever within reach connected to pistons on one side). The world will go blue except for black marking cave systems. Look for square boxes. Travel in that direction and repeat until you can narrow down where it is, then dig down.
I have looked everywhere for a mob spawner (particularly zombies/skeletons). When I say everything, I mean it. I've been strip mining layer 26. I've also looked in caves but they all lead to dead ends (and I've tried looking for abandoned mineshafts but can't find any). Is there anything else I can do?
Alright, so I'm stuck. I have a mob farm (I think everyone does), a chicken farm, and cow/pig farm, but now I want to make a sheep/wool farm. Here's an idea I have, but there's one problem.
EDIT: THIS IS THE SAME AS THE PICTURE WITH THE WATER, (but without the water lol)
This is the standby position of the farm. This is where they eat the grass.
The dispenser has a water bucket inside.
The water makes the sheep jump (which makes breeding, shearing, and dyeing easier).
So the problem is the grass. When the sheep eat the grass, it takes a while for the surrounding grass to spread to the grass inside the farm, which takes the sheep a REALLY long time to all grow their wool. Is there any solution?
The problem is once the mob cooks in the lava, the lava will also consume the drops aswell and you won't receive anything.
What i found to counter this was to make mobs cook on a burning netherrack with a small drop to the side as they walk off burning. Voila cooked meats throwing themselves at your feet! (I have always had success with chickens this way I've yet to try pigs or cows)
Like I said, I made sure the drop was deep enough (I think 3 blocks) so the animals fall right through.
The only problem aside from obviously the lava that has already been pointed out, is that I'm pretty sure animals still glitch outside of pens when they don't have a lot of room to wander. Usually when the chunk loads.
Though maybe that's just with fences? I could be wrong.
I switched the wool to glass in my survival world.
The lava cannot burn the sign, I think because the is no space next to or above the sign for the lava to start a fire in. This lava blade, however, will burn the sign because the animals will float on top of it, they need to be falling fast enough to go through and hit the ground hard enough that they will die while still on fire, thus giving you cooked meats.
Yea, I tested the minimum fall for the animals to just fall through and not just sit on top, otherwise the whole thing would be a fail.
Nice design btw, the neatest breeder/cooker I've ever seen! I think the lava will destroy any drops though, have you tested it?
Thanks, I might be starting a new minecraft series on youtube. I recently added a dispenser with a toggle (of course) and water inside. I closed up all the holes on the sides and this way you stand on top and the cows and pigs are rotated so it's 100% more efficient.

But most people do it with other farm animals

But unfortunately there is no fix. Transparent blocks (like glass/fences) will not suffocate animals but instead let them pass through.

Do you know where you found that?

Well I have seen lava burn signs but not when the lava is above it

So the wiki is wrong?
