    posted a message on [HELP] Installing Mods with SharpZipLib
    I am trying to write a tool in C# that will automate the installation of mods downloaded from a list of URLs. Teaching myself C# as I go, I have managed to make my program download files, append files from a list to minecraft.jar, make backups of everything, and copy files around as needed.

    Once the mods (in zip format) are downloaded, I need to append their contents to the minecraft.jar. My method for appending files needs nothing more than a list of files to append, but I need a way to generate this list.

    List<string> files = new List<string>();
    files.Add(@"myfile.txt");
    files.Add(@"myFile2.txt");
    ZipFile zipFile = new ZipFile(System.IO.Path.Combine(Root, "JARs/minecraft.jar"));

    Unfortunately, I have no idea how I can create a list of files extracted from the zipped mods. If I could avoid unzipping all of them, that would be ideal. Otherwise, I can just delete the extracted files after they are appended to the JAR file.

    I am using SharpZipLib, as the title implies.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Is this dead? I'm looking to make an installer/configurator for my server's client-side modpack. I think this is the sort of thing I'm looking for.

    posted a message on Will MC Ever Get Mob Shield/Spawn Preventers?
    Quote from QuiqkSilver

    Cats dont work for repelling Creepers, at least not consistently. When a Creeper spots a cat, it doesnt just run away, it picks a random direction and runs that way, even if that direction is straight at you. Ive experienced it not only in survival, but also in Mob filters. Slabs are a decent way to handle mob spawning, but make the environment look terrible. A Beacon Effect would be a great way to handle it that wouldnt ruin the way the environment looks.

    Slabs are terrible? I take it you never use any stone, stone brick, wood planks, or cobble in your designs, yes? Since slabs look exactly like those blocks, and slabs look terrible.

    Surviving in a snowy biome would be epic if this were true.

    I have a mod on my server that does this. It is, in fact, epic.

    so snow can act like real snow?

    Considering real snow doesn't just fall apart when there's nothing below it, no. Minecraft snow is now even less like real snow.

    Also a problem for me server players, since a couple of them have just finished a massive castle built on clouds of snow blocks. This will be very, very bad for them when the server updates. :/

    No, they aren't. They were asking for citation on the fact they will be included in 1.5.

    Not what they said.

    Quote from Laughing_Man16

    And it saddens me that some people don't understand that the red dragon was something Notch mused about in the early days of Minecraft and almost nothing has been said of it since. And now out of no where the OP claims it will be in 1.5 without any proof and seeing as they are the only one that seems to have 'heard' this rumor No one with even half a brain cell should consider this as anything more than a hardly veiled attempt at starting a rumor about something that was never even remotely true. Now go check the dates on the crap you are trying to link us to and then check the date on the OP and then try to call us the morons.

    1. Early days of Minecraft? Exactly how long have you been playing?

    2. Learn to read. OP claimed that he heard that dragons would be in 1.5. Are you going to dispute that he hear the same rumor that comes around every single update? Are you requesting proof that he heard this rumor? Exactly what do you expect OP to provide as proof of this?

    3. Red dragons were proposed as a future addition officially. I'd call that at least "remotely true."

    4. Check the validity of the links and see that they are reasonably reliable sources of the fact the red dragon were officially proposed. Find one of my sources to be false and I will concede.

    5. Learn to grammar.

    Citation needed. Until you show some kind of documentation that this is even rumored your just talking non-sense as far as any one else is concerned.

    Quote from Phycozz

    Where did you hear that? [citation needed]

    You are both morons.

    It saddens me that there are still people too stupid to use Google or the Minecraft Wiki. You should both be banned from commenting on this site until you learn to use the most powerful force on Earth for something other than asking OP to deliver.

    posted a message on Are You in Favour of a Terrain Update?
    My server already has amazingly epic terrain, and has been using the same map since 1.3. A terrain update would do little to improve the already breathe-taking terrain and would require starting an entirely new map.

    Now. A terrain update that adds small-scale content retroactively (structures, ores, etc.) and makes transitional areas between old chunks and new chunks would be simply brilliant.

    Last time my server had to start a new map, everyone left because nobody wanted to start all over. It took months to get a handful of regular players again.

    It is a theme, not a rule. That's all. It is Mojang saying "let's make this update focus extra on X", and they do it. If they have brilliant ideas or fix bugs along the way not directly related to "X", it isn't a big deal. The focus is still on "X".

    Quote from Dragonoid12

    I don't think that the testifi I MEAN villager model and texture is that bad, but it is slightly creepy that they ALL have the same face (even the witches) and that they BREED IN PUBLIC :steve_shocked: . EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE THE SAME GENDER (well, their texture makes it look like they are the same gender).

    They are hermaphroditic and reproduce by recombinational fission.

    Explained:
    • All villagers are identical in basic physiology, but genetically slightly different (hence differing occupations, trades, etc.)
    • When they breed, two villagers bring their noses into brief contact in order to exchange gametes (and therefore DNA).
    • One of the villagers then combines this new DNA with their own in order to produce the DNA of the new villager, which rapidly develops into a state capable of surviving outside the parent and is thusly ejected, somehow fully clothed and already with a chosen profession.

    Seriously? Another butthurt thread about how horrible 100% optional things are? And protip: You don't have to use bonemeal to grow crops. I never do. I just walk away for 10 minutes and come back to a ton of wheat, carrots, potatos, etc.

    I suggest you finish grade school and grow a backbone before going on the Internet. So you had to recompile your mod. Big whoop. It takes all of 5 minutes to do.
