What the hell do you guys smoke before you post a topic?
Well maybe you could ask him to revoke those privileges, then? Seeing as it's creating a pointless rift within the community, sparking flame wars, etc. And you don't really even want the special status, right? Riiiight?
Yeah, thought so.
I took a chance at buying a game very few people had tried and you just jumped on the bandwagon after everyone already knew it was good.
That and all the alpha players have had to put up with stuff like this from the beta people the entire time because you guys are acting like this doesn't happen in every alpha test. I've tested about 7 alphas and on every single one I got something special that no one else besides the other alpha testers got. Get over it, it's an industry practice.
Gravel. I have no use for it, I don't use bows, I don't need that much flint and steel and I hate the sound it makes when I walk on it so it's not going to be a path.
Honestly every update to minecraft is lack luster in my opinion. I play the game (rarely albiet) for the sand box part of it. In my opinion the game was at its best way back in Alpha 1.2. Wolves by far were one of the most annoying additions to the game. they have annoying sounds, they spawn too much and they completely rape you if you hit them with something by mistake.
When this idea was originally tossed around I was all for it, but now it's just another one of those things where I think it's ok if they add it, as long as there is a way to not have it enabled. I don't want to have to worry about reigniting my torches, I play Minecraft for the sandbox qualities of it and not for the survivalist qualities.
I hated it in New Vegas and I'd hate it in any other game. It doesn't really add any form of difficulty to the game, it just makes me have to do a chore when I play. I don't like Mafia II because it made me get dressed every day and then drive out to the next mission like I was playing a simulator and not a game. I play to play, not to do chores like eating.
FRAPS is great in all aspects except that it causes lag. When it's recording FRAPS compiles the video into a format that is smaller than RAW but still fairly large (4GB every few minutes). I have a Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.4ghz and whenever I record anything in FRAPS I hit 97%-100% usage, depending on the specific moment. You may just have to give up and go use something else that records in lower quality.
You'll also want to get more RAM... I have 4GB and that's not enough some times... Also get off XP and go to windows 7 or get linux, XP is no longer the most stable OS out there and hasn't been for awhile.
If you require validation that you did well in a SANDBOX game then I think you need to look into a different genre of gaming. If little johnny mines more stuff than you what does it matter? If the cheating somehow allowed him to get to the top with an obviously fake number, then just move everyone up one peg and take him out. It's pretty simple.
I think a bigger question here is how many people will really care about most of the achievements? Every game I've played that has achievements I've gotten over 90% of them just through normal game play and no matter what Mojang does a fair amount of theirs will follow the same time. Sure there will be some that I'll do just because they are awesome (riding a pig off a cliff xD) but most of them will be ignored because they'll be those achievements that everyone got within an hour of play.
