posted a message on OpenComputers [v1.5.21]

Greetings! I'm a big fan of OpenComputers and the TPPI modpack. In the recently-released TPPI 2, the pack has shifted from using computerCraft to OpenComputers. I'm curious: are there any guides out there on how to convert computerCraft programs to openComputers? Second, as you probably know, computerCraft recently added command block computers. They're a wonderful resource, so I'm wondering: are there any plans to add a similar feature to openComputers?

Bug report: Inverted Sky Blocks from OpenBlocks will cause the whole world to turn transparent within a certain radius while running shaders. Removing the Inverted Sky Blocks fixed the issue.

This took place with ShadersModCore-v2.2.2-mc1.6.4-f965 and OpenBlocks-1.2.7 as part of the TPPI modpack v 1.04.

Hey cal. First off let me say thanks for creating this wonderful mod! Is there a changelog floating around somewhere? I have version 0.2.1.195 and placing some of the wires in the mod causes my server to crash. I'd like to find out if that bug has been fixed in the latest version so that I know whether or not it's worth it to update!

    Quote from thebriankeener

Thank you for your "advice"(not legal advice), I have just a couple questions.
    1. With regard to noteblocks, would changing the song into noteblock form not be covered under fair use by "changing the meaning/intent" of the piece, much like examples I have seen of using popular songs but playing them on, for example, a violin?

    2. if this is not the case, why is it that major youtube networks such as Machinima or TGN are allowed by youtube to monetize videos with noteblock songs in them? These networks are very strict when it comes to copyrighted material, as they could lose their adsense accounts over it.

Again, thank you for your not-advice :)

    1) Unfortunately even your own performances of copyrighted music can be a violation, if their use is commercial (even indirectly through advertising revenue). Playing a song in a college course is sometimes protected, but even a teenage cover band requires a license (provided by their venue).

    2) Technically those videos could be considered actionable by the copyright holder, who has either not noticed the violation, or has chosen not to complain. Their main source of protection does not pertain to the law: YouTube/Google uses a search algorithm which compares the raw audio of an upload to a database of copyright-flagged material. Because the output audio is so different from the original recording these videos are missed by the program. To the great frustration of myself and many other YouTubers, the process of copyright enforcement on YouTube is 99% automated.

I'll also have to assume this is pertaining to the United States. Fair Use is one of the most nebulous and poorly-defined concepts in US law, and generally Fair Use is not successful as a defense. What's clear from sampling suits, however, is that this particular case wouldn't count as Fair Use if you're making money--there's even been a case where a suit was successful for copying three notes from the original artist. Many famous artists, from P Diddy to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, have been successfully sued for sampling without paying royalties. This doesn't just apply to ripping the original audio; even cover bands need protection, provided by the license fees paid by the venue in which they perform.

What it comes down to in practice is whether or not you're making money--if you're singing Happy Birthday to your child in a public park, that's protected, but if Paramount puts the scene in a movie they have to pay royalties to Disney. This is what enables sites like ocremix.org to operate. However ad revenue such as adfly could be considered actionable, which means that sites like ocremix could potentially be sued. The truth of the matter is that there is no precedent for this specific case that I am aware of in US law, so the outcome of a trial would be heavily dependent on what judge you get. Most judges tend to side with copyright holders, unfortunately. Of course, the fact that there is no precedent shows that it's extremely unlikely that you would be targeted in this way.

So, if you want to be completely and totally safe, don't include adfly links or generate any kind of revenue from the map and you're clear.

This awesome. I've been looking at mc observatories for an hour, and this is the best one I've found. It's exactly what I need for my city, in fact. Can I persuade you to post a world save or schematic?

Having the same issue as Erak606; fresh jar, install works fine, but there is no change to the gfx. I double-checked the jar and the shaders folder got installed just fine. Sonic Ether's fork works fine for me.
