The issue is simple: TMI updates almost every version within about 48 hours. I'm not expecting all modders to work that fast, but chickenbones has this absurd policy that he won't release his mods until a week after people stop asking for an update. While i do understand why he has this policy, it's incredibly aggravating because I use TMI/NEI nearly every day so I can't update minecraft until NEIis updated. Being as now the absolute earliest it's going to be updated is on the 24th, and it'll probably be another week or two after that because people are too stupid to read, I've decided that it's not worth it. Yes NEI has some features TMI doesn't, but they're really not all that useful to me if I have to stay a month behind the regular update. I'm going to guess I'm not the only one who feels this way.
And by breaking the rules, I mean both chickenbone's rules and the official forum rules.
One problem, I don't use NEI because of item spawning, that's what creative mode/extra cheats are for, I use it because it allows me to view forestry machine recipes, if you know any other mod that can do that and is updated, please let me know.
Have you ever noticed that most of the new stuff added to vanilla is an inferior version of something someone else made in a mod?
Exhibit A: Cats originally from Mo' Creatures and way more entertaining.
Exhibit B: Villagers (from Millenaire and MineColony. Both make vanilla villagers l1ook like window licking paste eaters, even with the 1.3.1 trading update. They actually like do stuff in the mods o.o.
Exhibit C: Pistons. They could actually work as a block breaker in the piston mod, something people seem to have forgotten.
Exhibit D: Increased Height Limit: Done in a mod that also actually changed world generation so you could get more terrain instead of just increasing the ceiling.
And last and not least, Exhibit E: Enderchests. Looks like a completely similar idea as this mod, Enderstorage, but instead of having 163 = 4096 different inventories and now with pouches useable straight from your inventory, you get just one shitty inventory
I could go on and on (renewable coco beans and apples, booster rails, emeralds...), but you get the idea.
Now I don't go for all this butthurt about people copying each other, because most of the ideas have real world or fictional equivalents, Minecraft being, after all being somewhat of a sim (of something. Building perhaps? ). But I do think that if they are going to just wholesale copy, then they should just actually approach the mod makers and use their code and give them some cash for it. I'm guessing it would be less expensive than hiring someone to program some half baked knockoff and also prove much better in terms of game play.
You're wrong about the 1 inventory, there are actually 7,042,556 inventories and counting, however you only have access to 1. great way to do it for multiplayer as people won't have to worry about overlaps, although it's horible for singleplayer.
If there was a beta, then my list of beta 1.3 mods would be 3, this plus forestry and iron chests. (The main reason I want this to be updated is so that I can actualy see new forestry recipes. )
I'm wondering what will happen with emeralds in redpower now that emeralds are also in vanilla minecraft. Are you going to not generate your own emeralds, still generate your own emeralds but treat the 2 as seperate ores, or have them function interchangably (ie: like with ore dictionary)?
If the 1.3.1 version is ready why not just post the download as beta with a disclaimer that it is an unstable beta and to use at your own risk. Forestry and Forge have already done the same and I would like to add the third mod to my list of 1.3.1 mods.
[EDIT] If you don't provide a download link, I will download the sources and obfucicate them myself.
[EDIT2] Just got it working and I have a bug to report for you, the items are not in the creative inventory.
I'm just wondering if the curent version of railcraft is compatible with forestry 1.4.9.*, I just tryed and it complained about an abstract method error when registering a container for the bottler. When I checked the source code it seemed to be fine.
That is a performance mod that I found useful, and at times necessary, yet by its nature, it will be difficult, if not impossible to do through an API.
Other examples: IC2 changes some values in some of the existing blocks, so that may require a full modification. Railcraft changes the recipes for rails and the stack limits for minecarts, another thing that may not be possible with out a way to change or replace base classes.
EvilSeph, if someone is not a modder or developer, but has an idea on how to do something (such as MP mods and plugins), how do they propose it, because I have one for moving mods about.
Here it is anyway, made out of the way through the use of a spoiler so I don't have to go on a wild goose chase to find a place to put it or find it again when someone tells me where to put it:
I noticed that during the discussion you had some trouble with where to put the mods.
I suggest that you use a reference file to point to the actual webpage that contains the file, be this page on a third party host or a Mojang host. However, for the on the fly MP downloads required for allowing a client to join a modded sever, this system is only useful for checking, as mentioned in the discussion, bandwidth is a problem. As such my main proposal is that the client sends a list of installed mods, the sever compares those mods to the list for that world, and send only the missing ones from ITS hard disk to the client. Upon leaving, the client removes the mods that the sever sent, but (optional step, for sake of licenses) not before allowing the user to keep those mods for later use. Possible refinements could be in the form of only sending the list when it changes (from retaining the mods from last log in) or the sever is new to the client, with the sever assuming the list has not changed if it does not receive one and act accordingly.
Maybe some development threads will work a little better for the "non-experts," maybe with a simpler Problem Solution format.
The thing is, IC2 nor RP2 nor RC modify base classes, rather they use an API like the one being made right now to get the dessired effect with modifying base classes. That API is MinecraftForge.
The only reason bukkit has a larger number of members is popularity. If bukkit was made after Canary and all hMod users went to Canary at the start, it would be more popular. We'd have more devs making awesome stuff.
Most people don't know about Canary.
The only features bukkit has over Canary, in my opinion, is multiworld and spout. I don't think multiworld is needed and I don't like the idea of anything client-side (spout).
I think if CanaryMod could find a way to get better known, the ease of use would pull people in, because it's so much simpler.
Have you not heard that spout is moving away from bukkit? Spout is working on their own custom game engine that is independant of bukkit and even minecraft itself. On top of that, they are thinking of canary and are working on a bukkit-canary-modloader-spout bridge to gat all types of plugins/mods to work together nicely. I'm sorry if I sound like I'm advertising Spout, I just like people to know the facts.
P.S. I felt a little insulted when you said that you didn't like client stuff as 90% of my time on minecraft was in singleplayer.
P.P.S. Sorry for necro-replying, I often don't notice when the posts are really old.
Knowing that the NES is 8 bit and the SNES is 16 bit, it's probobly alot simpler than thought. I'm curently working on a 16 bit computer. However before we can replicate it, we would need to know how much ram,and rom it has as well as what fuctions it is capaple of (if it uses multiplication, then the dificulty goes up signicicantly as opsosed to not needing multiplication). One additional thing, even though it is possible to build it, it might not fit in all sp loaded chunks and might not be playable due to how slow redstone is.
[EDIT] You will need mods if the screen has more than 2 colours.
Eather you used mods, or it's fake. Given that the buttons are invisable, the blocks changing colours, and the sounds that are outside of the range that can be produced by noteblocks, I'd say it's fake. Plus a real working x-box 360 on its side would likely be taller than the world limit.
I tried running the test multiplication program and it somehow told me that 2*3=7. I did exactly what you did in the demonstration (only with 2 and 3 instead of 4 and 5).
SP: little to no bugs or lag.
MP: plenty of bugs and lag.
If you had to get rid of one, which would you keep.
Oh. and the LAN thing doesn't do anything for me as I'm the only one who plays minecraft in my house. How many people actualy have more than 2 people who both play multiplayer and live in the same house. (ie: in the same LAN network)

This mod will not update the 1.3.1. We're already in 1.3.2 and forge updated to it before it was released.

existed in source, not in binarys. I have it however thanks to MCP.
