I want to mention this guy in my topic, his Connect 4 is awesome. It doesn't have a color screen, but it isn't gravity-dependant either and the pieces actually fall. There seem to be 4 connect 4 topics or something on the first page, so I guess this can serve as a bump for mine too.

I've worked for a while on this Connect 4 contraption, I know there are several out there but I think mine has a few things that make it different.

    1) No gravity based block dropping
    2) Automatic Scoreboard updating
    3) Automatic Win Detection and Turn Toggling
    4) Play against a computer that makes "decisions" (in progress)
    5) Chicken AI !

I think I would add "pieces that actually fall down" to that list. I have seen both 1 and 3 on that list (and even made number 1, but with a color screen instead of X's and O's) before, but I think that they definitely aren't made often enough. Most people who make Connect 4 now just use sand and gravel (don't get me wrong, I've done that like ten times), but I really enjoy seeing the non-gravity-dependant ones. I usually don't really look at the redstone-X's-and-O's kind of thing as much, but this is definitely impressive. I applaud you, sir/madam, and I am going to link to this on my Connect 4 topic so others can see it because it's just that awesome.

Really cool, I wonder if anyone else has made something like this.

While people have made sand/gravel ones and I've even seen one with water/lava, I've yet to see another one like this, so I don't think so. I found one here with win detection and a colored wool screen, but it's less compact it seems and the screen on that one is far more basic (if you look at it you'll see what I mean, you have to see the screen from a certain angle in order for it to work right), but that's the closest thing I've seen to this. I would like to add win detection to mine eventually, but I have another major project I'm working on and I gotta update one of my other projects to work with 1.3. I'm lucky I didn't have too many things broken by 1.3's new piston timing, but I still have to update something that I don't know what to do to fix it yet.

on 8/24 Dinnerbone said, "I've nether heard of it. Is there no end to these questions". I had to read it twice to pick it up but Dinnerbone clearly said "nether" instead of the proper term "never".

While I'm not saying I have any idea to these questions, I'd also like to point out that there is one more detail that went over everyone's heads that I just noticed.

I've nether heard of it. Is there no end to these questions

While I'm not saying it won't spawn in the nether, I don't think that this tweet was really a hint to it spawning in the nether, because, if you look closely, you'll see he not only mentioned the nether, but the end too. In his next tweet, I don't remember it exactly but don't feel like looking it up again, I recall him saying something referencing the overworld too (saying that something went over (-world) the guy's head, or something along those lines). Due to the fact that he kills passive mobs, I think he'll spawn somewhere with passive mobs. Maybe he won't actually spawn until you activate something or do something to summon him, who knows?

EDIT: I didn't realize that someone already said this in here, so sorry. I'll still leave this comment up though.

posted a message on Command Blocks - Better Inventory Management Commands
Command Blocks add many new possibilities for mapmakers. I thought of a small way to expand these possibilties. As it is right now, you can power the command block with redstone to use any server command. My idea is another version of the /give command. At the moment, you can give people most items in the game with command blocks, but you can't give them things such as enchanted armor, written books, or dyed armor. I think we should have a slot next to the command entry line where we can insert any item, like leather armor dyed with lapis lazuli dye, and give that item to a player. This would use a new command, possible something along the lines of /giveitem <player>. Parameters for amount and damage could be added, but you could also just put the item in the slot predamaged and put however many you want to give them in there. Now, I know some of you may be thinking "If you want to give something but can't withthe command block, just use a dispenser! I like dispensers as much as the next guy, but I don't like restocking them. I could deal with this, but if you're a mapmaker, you can't just restock them if they run out. And yeah, you could fill up a dispenser with 9 full stacks of the item with an inventory editor (since the items you would need this for aren't stackable), but even that can run out, especially if someone purposely tries to drain it or it is something that is going to be used a lot.

tl;dr: There would be an extra slot on command blocks where you could insert an item and then use /giveitem <player> to give that exact item (including dyed armor, written books, or enchanted armor) to the player, which you couldn't do otherwise since they have more than just a data value and damage value.

And one more quick idea before I finish this up, a checkbox or something that would make armor automatically go into their armor slot would be cool, but that's not really a big deal to me.

In addition, I think a /clearinventory command will be nice, but that doesn't really need a long explanation.

EDIT: also, check out this suggestion by Xannot. I'm sure there have been many people with this idea, including me, so I'll just link to another thread instead of posting it myself.

Am I the only one that made (in SSP) a binary decoder to dispense individual storage minecarts as my main storage system? .-.

Not at all. Starting with the impractical stuff, I made the first Connect 4 (as far as I know) to have a non-gravity dependent color screen (No sand, gravel, water, lava, or X's and O's).

From what I have seen Redstone has climaxed at its max capabilities I haven't seen any thing new in a long time and I wonder if this will stay the same. Who else thinks this?

While I still need to update this for 1.3 (new piston timing = bleh), I made an invisible chest storage system. Basically, you right click a certain block in the wall, and it opens up a chest screen (You can't see a chest there though). Now press a button or something, and then wait a few seconds. Now, when you click that one block in the wall, it opens a DIFFERENT chest (Again, at no point in time will you actually see a chest). The only limitation on it is that the room has to be no more than two blocks high.

While I would agree with you that this forum subsection is at a standstill (not much activity here), I would not agree with you at all that redstone itself is at a standstill.

Don't worry about the scarcity of replies, the redstone forums aren't as crowded as we'd like anymore. Don't let that discourage you at all. Anyways, I'd also reccomend showing the wiring below ground. I'm assuming the detector rails go to a T-Flip Flop that activates the piston so no more carts can be sent?
