Sep 7, 2013bobrulz600 posted a message on 13w36a Snapshot Ready for Testing!Survival seems like it would be a pain in the ass on Amplified though. You know how much more difficult collecting resources would be? It's already annoying enough to dig up 100 blocks into a mountain lol. Now you can dig up 250 blocks, theoretically. Also, coal doesn't generate above a certain point (cloud level possibly?).Posted in: News
Then again, that could be the appeal of it for some people.
I also imagine that feather falling would be super valuable on, say, an Amplified server (if such a thing ever comes around). -

Loaded a new world, went to the nether and found:-
3 separate fortresses not too far from each other, but not connected (wide spaces between them) either.
Within them I found horse armour, 7 gold, 14 iron 5 diamond, 7 saddles, 6 gold swords, 5 gold body armour, 3 flint and steel, 56 gold ingots, 32 iron ingots and 64+ nether wart!
I'm enjoying this update snapshot a lot!
Roll on 1.7
All of that was added in 1.6 -
Sep 6, 2013bobrulz600 posted a message on 13w36a Snapshot Ready for Testing!I don't see anything about this on the Wiki, but I can confirm that mountains can generate above level 128 now. I just found a mountain that peaks at level 132, and it's on just regular world gen.Posted in: News

for some reason my server has not the same version as my pc (though both should be on 1.5) --> MC says the server is outdated. could there be some problem with the patched .jar for the server? anyone got that problem too?
Do you just run your server off of your PC? If so, the server doesn't update automatically with the game, you have to update it manually.

If a world chunk is previously loaded, it won't change when you update it.... You'll have to go past where the world has already loaded to get Nether Quartz Ore, it will never appear where you've already been. Me, I made a world months ago but waited until now to go to the Nether so that that wouldn't happen. I worry about that happening to me with the 1.6 update though, because supposedly new mobs are being added and I want them to appear near my house...
That would only be a problem if the mobs need a new, pre-generated structure to spawn (ie witch).

Does the update apply to the Xbox 360 version
Is the update out for Xbox 360
No, the Xbox version is several updates behind PC. It will take time for the 360 version to catch up.

i am having trouble with the new update. i cant use any mods even after i deleted the meta inf it sill goes black. the craftn table and chest are very screwed up for me. for instince if i take something from a chest and put it in my inventy it will not it goes back. im also dropping items randomly. the serevr connections are weakernow than ever before and i keep getting disconected.
if someone canh elp me out that would be great hopefully 1.5.1 is comeing out soon to fix the bugd im having.
You have to wait for the mod creators to update the mods to 1.5 before you can use the game with mods. -

The red stone block and easier way of getting nether brick is nice, but the rest? I'm glad you're trying to update red stone stuff for people who use it, but why a primarily red stone update and nothing else? It's kinda useless for those of us who aren't red stone savvy.
Maybe it will encourage you to become redstone savvy?
I'm not redstone savvy but I feel like this will really encourage me to learn about it and use it by just making so many options. I think we're missing out on a huge part of the game if we just ignore redstone completely. -

Well, there is such a thing as a wrong opinion.
It is not your "opinion" that those people don't care about the gameplay. I for one think fireworks are a neat addition, and they've actually put quite a bit of thought into it. Does that mean I don't care about things like lighting glitches, the Mod API, and new updates that actually fundamentally change the gameplay? Of course not! I'm quite looking forward to all of those. -

No that is just people who don't care about actual gameplay.
I will be skipping this~
So you're saying that because people might want to set off fireworks on occasion it means they don't care about actual gameplay?
lol.
Why do I even come to these forums? -

Jeb's breaking Minecraft... I'm not sure if fireworks would be a good idea. I started playing minecraft because of it's simplicity and now some new features added are just silly and not very useful.
Ugh.
Fireworks don't change anything about the game that exists already. If you don't like them don't use them!
It gets tiring seeing people complain about this EVERY SINGLE UPDATE.
Personally there's very very little about the game that I don't like and I think every update makes it better! -

Sep 7, 2012bobrulz600 posted a message on Snapshot 12w36a Ready For Testing!Definitely liking what I'm seeing from these snapshots overall. However, I think they either need to tweak the beacon block or come up with a new use for it. It is simply too impractical and ridiculously expensive to use in survival, and since Withers are only really needed for the nether star...well, I'm not sure if I'll ever have any reason to spawn and kill one.Posted in: News

You do understand that the snapshots are getting us to 1.4, while this update - which does not include what was in the last snapshot - is 1.3.2?
Derper, derp thyself.
Huh?? Yeah of course I realize that.
It seems that whoever created the picture doesn't, or maybe I just don't understand what it's saying.
There's one development path where they introduce snapshots every week, which are designed to test features for the next official major update, and then there's minor updates (like 1.3.2) that are really just for bug fixes and maybe minor interface tweaks.
If that's not what the picture meant by "two update trees" then I'm not sure what it does mean, much less what it has to do with merging SMP and SSP. - To post a comment, please login.

I have a world that got corrupted because of the new snapshot. I was able to recover the world through an MCEdit script that somebody posted on Reddit, but everything in my chests was gone (apparently this happened because I loaded it in an uncorrupt version before discovering the fix). I copied over my storage room from a week-old backup, so now I'm trying to copy over individual chests that I have scattered around my world. So before copying them over, I just saved a whole bunch of them in the schematics folder.
My problem now is that since I have a whole bunch of chests that all look the same in the schematics bar on the right, how can I tell which one I'm copying over? I named each one individually to determine which chests go where, but the name doesn't seem to come up on the actual MCEdit program, so I just have a whole bunch of chests that look the same in the sidebar with seemingly no way of knowing which chest is which. How can I tell? Is there something obvious I'm missing?

That "hideous orange wood" is amazing though, tbh

I also really love making storage rooms, for some reason. I guess the satisfaction of having my storage all neatly arranged in a huge, beautiful room is very powerful.
Finally, I love making places look nice after they're "done". Sometimes I find the process of actually building large structures to be tedious and/or frustrating, but doing all the prettying up of areas is so much fun it's worth it. Because of that I don't know if I'll ever be a regular builder of huge structures. I prefer making lots of little structures, building into mountainsides, or designing outdoor areas.

And in one post you've proven that you don't know a damn thing about what all of these technical changes are actually for.

My current world that I've been playing for only a few weeks is at 126MB, apparently. I'm not sure how because I've only gone about 1,000 blocks or so in each direction. Maybe it's because I had to go for a ways in the nether to find a fortress??
I ran a multiplayer server that had about 15 players whitelisted (although only about 7-8 active players) that I started just a couple of weeks before 1.5 came out (shut it down just prior to the release of 1.7) that reached 403 MB. I then re-started it in 1.7 (although I've already shut it down because, although it was very active at the start, activity pretty much stopped by January) that reached 485MB.

I also like that they found a great use for lapis lazuli, and the enchanting seems much more useful. I'm hoping that they still tweak some things though, but it's much better, especially anvils!
I'm also assuming that villager trading makes more sense now, but I haven't had a chance to play with that yet. And the fact that villagers will actually harvest and share crops with other villagers, that's very cool.

I was hoping that these changes were a bug (I decided to use this snapshot to start building a huge rail, only to come across bugs that made it unusable, lol, guess I'm going to have to wait a few days), so it's good to hear that they are.

I wouldn't consider it cheating if it was completely out of your control.

However, this doesn't seem to be any sort of set rule. I started a new server for me and my friends to play on once the 1.7 release officially came out, and I myself have found 4 dungeons in just 5 days. I know another person on the server found a double dungeon, and I know other people have found dungeons as well. And this is all in cave systems very near spawn. Maybe it was nerfed in the snapshots, but fixed in the official release? Or it could just be luck.
To the poster above: horse armor generates very frequently in nether fortress chests. If you can't find any dungeons or temples, then your neighborhood nether fortress should have some horse armor. Also my brother found 2 desert temples and a jungle temple when he went exploring, and that was within 1000 blocks of the spawn area. Of course, it helps that we got a dry spawn area.
I have definitely noticed the subtle change in cave generation - I was starting to wonder if it had changed, and this seems to confirm it. Caves definitely seem to be more "stringy" and less "clumpy", and the swiss cheese caves are nearly gone, or at least much much rarer.
The one thing that I'm most upset about though is that enchanted books are much rarer now in dungeon chests (the wiki seems to confirm this). I can get nerfing the generation a little bit (getting 3 or 4 enchanted books in 1 dungeon is a little bit ridiculous), but it now seems to be the most rare item (along with diamond horse armor and golden apples). That frustrates me because that is literally the best loot. I only care about so many saddles and record discs. Also, you can only find 2 types of music discs in chests. Was this always the case?

I don't mind if most of the clay stays in rivers, lakes, and perhaps ocean shorelines.
