posted a message on Do Not Call It an Expert Pack

It took longer than I thought it would, but I finally finished my modpack.

    Curse Link: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/do-not-call-it-an-expert-pack

The title is tongue in cheek. What really makes a modpack "expert" anyway? This pack has a lot of custom recipes, but no forced progression. There are four main mods, Immersive Engineering, Ender IO, Botania, and Astral Sorcery. You can start with any mod you want, but will have to go through all four mods to complete the pack to craft creative items (using Extended Crafting). Other mods are included, but I disabled certain machines to avoid redundancy.

The other main change I made is that there is no natural ore gen, except for the Beneath. You are going to have to sieve for resources using Ex Nihilio. Later, you can mine in the Beneath, use Mystical Agriculture, or Environmental Tech. Of course, you can also use the ore gen methods of Botania, Immersive Engineering and Astral Sorcery.

Roguelike Dungeons have custom loot in them. This is what took the longest time to figure out. There are also several mods to help with building and base decoration, including Chisel, Chisel and Bits, and LittleTiles. Also, there is a quest book to help achieve your goals and focus on what to work on next. This isn't a tutorial modpack and there are not 100s of quests, just the main items you should be focusing on. There are no random loot chests; most rewards you will have to chose what you want from a list.

    Have fun!

posted a message on Need help figuring out the source of a crash

Extra Cells isn't compatible with the newer version of Applied Energistics 2. The new version of AE2 now has fluid cells, which causes the crash with extra cells. Either remove Extra Cells or downgrade your version of AE2.

This is my first modpack. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I wanted to play an expert style modpack, but most of them are over 200 mods and are filled with just a lot of clutter, so I attempted to make my own. You should be able to run this pack on just 4 GB of ram.

I had the same issue. Most likely it's an anti-virus program causing it (like Avast). Simply disabling/uninstalling it fixes it.

It looks like you are missing some dependencies. Add the following mods to your mod folder:

    Chisels and Bits

    Crafting Tweaks

    The One Probe

What anti-virus program do you use? There's been a recent issue with Avast causing lag/freezes. Uninstalling Avast fixes it.

This is most likely due to something running in the background. For me, it was an anti-virus program.

Yes, I had the same issue. I'm pretty sure the issue was with Avast anti-virus. Once I uninstalled it, Minecraft ran smoothly again. Check your anti-virus program. Even if you had no issues before like me, there may have been an update that is now causing lag. It took me a long time to pinpoint the problem because I have no idea what the anti-virus program has to do with sound.

I think I found a possible solution. Go to control panel-hardware and sound-sound, then double click on your default speakers. Click the tab that says enhancements and tick the box that says disable all sound effects.

After I did that the freezing has stopped completely, for now.

Unfortunately this didn't help. Because the issue has to do with sounds, I discovered that turning off all sounds before opening my save solved the issue. Although I don't like playing with no sounds, so hopefully i find a better solution.

It turns out my solution didn't fully fix my problem. I did more troubleshooting and I'm having the same issue as this guy.

    https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/modded-client-support/2890080-modified-direwolf20-freeze-frames-every-few

It doesn't matter what pack I play, I get the same freeze every few seconds and the pie chart thing says it has to due with sound. Anyone have a fix for this?

I think I fixed my problem. Honestly, all I did was open my computer and cleaned it out. I think there was too much dust in there and it was overheating.

Windows 10 64-bit AMD A10-7800 Radeon R7 Java 1.8.0_161 I have 8 GB of RAM with 4 allocated to Minecraft.
I created a custom modpack and just recently started experiencing a problem. When I first open up my save, everything is fine for about 3 minutes. Then exactly every 7 seconds I get a lag spike and my FPS drops significantly for about a second. I thought maybe I just played this world for a long time and I had too much stuff, so I downloaded Project Ozone Lite (Minecraft version 1.10) and I get exactly the same issue. When I went to save an exit, it crashed. Installing Optifine did not solve this issue.
