Only problem is that i have a pesky ender dragon trying to kill me :P . My friends and i created a brand new world when we started. Ill figure it out though. I am also getting the angelic Armour to make building things easier.

This is a vanilla Minecraft trick, but in case you haven't figured it out - Potions of Night Vision make the Ender Dragon about a thousand times easier.

I tried it, it didn't work.
I guess I will just have to wait for Holo or Xolova.

This is a stretch, but is there any chance that you might have tunneled your way under a mushroom biome? Are vanilla mobs spawning?

    The Grue

    Overworld Mob

    Health: 100
    Attack Strength: 30
    Attack Type: Melee
Spawns: Underground, level 15 and below
    Aggressive: Yes
Drops: Corrupted Shard, Shadow Ingot (Rare)

A monster notorious for eating cave explorers, the Grue is one of the more dangerous non-boss mobs to be found in the Overworld. Although Grues are relatively fragile, their tremendous speed and strength make them a serious threat in spite of their frailty. They prefer to attack from ambush, lashing out in a flurry of swift and powerful blows that can potentially slay an unwary adventurer in a matter of seconds. Fortunately, Grues spawn only in total darkness; if you hear heavy breathing in the dark, either get to safety or be prepared for a difficult fight!

Grues prefer to lurk out of sight and startle players with surprise attacks (much like a Creeper), rather than charging directly into combat. Victims of Grue attacks are often too startled to defend themselves - partly because of the suddenness and ferocity of their attacks, and partly because of the terrifying shriek with which the creature launches itself into battle. Needless to say, it's essential to be cautious and alert when venturing into areas with no natural lighting.

    Quote from Panpiper

Using a diamond pickaxe, seeing as diamond is pretty much useless in this mod for much other than tools, dig a staricase down to level seven. There start a main shaft going in two directions from your staircase. Every four blocks from that main shaft, dig a one by two block mining tunnel as far as you feel willing to walk back from. If you run into water or lava blocking your route, go back to the main shaft and start a new one by two tunnel. Obviously as you dig this tunnel, you will encounter ore. Grab what you want.

The mistake people make is in digging 'more' than a one by two tunnel, not using high end tools, not digging at level 7, and trying to move around or otherwise deal with lava. Once you've thoroughly dug out level seven you can do something similar five levels higher and get almost as good results. When doing that second level, for best results make sure to align your mining shafts so that they are between the shafts below, not directly above.

Apparently I'm just unlucky, 'cause this is precisely how I've been doing it - with enchanted Realmite tools, no less - and I've been getting Arlemite and Rupees at a rate of about two per hour.

I'm really excited about all of this new content; the fact that I haven't really gotten to experience any of it yet because my first six hours in-game have been spent branch-mining... doesn't thrill me.

Yeah, Minecraft scares the bejeezes out of me. Not gonna lie. I think it's the fact that the game is so cathartic - and it'll go from dreamlike to nightmarish just like that, without any warning.

I avoid caves even on Peaceful, because without mobs the silence creeps me out. /sigh

posted a message on The First Thing You Built?
What was your first major building project, back when you were an innocent little noob?

I spent my first in-game night hiding in a little cave that I'd dug in a cliff side. I spent the next day wandering around the nearby area, just kind of being in awe of the terrain generation. Then night started to fall, and I realized that I had no idea how to get back to my cave. Monsters started spawning; I panicked and ran around at random, and finally stumbled across my base by sheer dumb luck.

I was so traumatized by the experience that I decided I needed some kind of marker to help me find my way home in the future. So: back when my home was literally a hole in the wall, I started building a giant lighthouse on top of it. This thing was possibly the noobiest thing ever constructed - a 4x4 pillar of cobblestone all the way up to the height limit, with a glass ball full of torches at the top.

It wasn't until after I'd finished construction and was admiring my work that I realized that I'd basically constructed a hundred-foot tall replica of my wang; Sigmund Freud would be proud. I christened it "The Dong Memorial," and it still stands over my first base. Good times.

Trying to come up with something useful that hasn't already been done is the real challenge here, I think. The only stuff I can come up with is combinations of existing gadgets.

Edit: scratch that, I've got something; not terribly useful, but kind of cool. I wouldn't mind having a (preferably compact) device that causes Redstone Lanterns to "flicker on" - that is, to receive brief, preferably random bursts of power before turning "all the way on." That seems like it'd be a tricky one for you.

If you feel like you're falling into a rut, I'd recommend trying to work with weird shapes. Some of the most fun that I've had was working on a cylindrical house; finding ways to make it both attractive and practical was a weird and interesting challenge, and I ended up really liking the result.

For me it was probably when I made my first T Flip Flop, I knew it was possible and, being a programmer, assumed it couldn't be that hard. Yet I spend quite some time trying and trying untill I finaly found managed to make it :smile.gif:

Oh the plans I had for that T Flip Flop... However I was never sure what to use it for, it was just too big and everything I could think of would need A LOT of T Flip Flops.. (this was before pistons)

This actually made me think of one... heh.

When 1.8 hit, I decided that I was going to figure out redstone so that I could make a Jeb door. This meant that I had to find a way to make the pistons fire in a certain order turning on, and in the opposite order turning off. Since I'd never even built an "And" gate before, I had to figure everything out as I went; I ended up brute-forcing this fiendishly complicated system of logic gates, which basically amounted to:

-Piston A is on by default, and turns off only when Piston B is off
-Piston B is off by default, and turns on only when Piston A is on

I felt like a total boss when I finally got it to work; it was only later that I checked the forums and discovered that I was overcomplicating the crap out of it, and that you can fit a simple reversible signal generator into a 3x3x1 space. It was still a fun learning experience, though.

I think Notch should add HIM as a rare random-spawn boss... and not announce it in the patch notes. Just because I think it would be funny to see how much evidence there would need to be before the more skeptical members of the community (myself included) stopped dismissing it as a hoax.

Between the code for Creepers and Endermen, it seems like it'd be pretty easy to make a mob who tries to stay out of sight (possibly by teleporting to behind the player), and then attacks if you look at him. Bonus points if his AI when he's not aggro consists of sticking torches in places where the player doesn't remember putting them.

posted a message on Tips for beginners on building structures
This is kind of a personal taste thing, but I like to have a detailed floor plan before I start construction. There's nothing more obnoxious than finishing a structure, and then realizing that the ceilings aren't high enough, or that the crafting area that you thought would be big enough is actually kinda cramped once you've gotten it furnished, or whatever. "Measure twice, cut once" is a really good rule of thumb, I think.

    Lets see..
Games like crysis. Were dealing with advanced physics, ai, graphics, draw detail, animations, etc etc.
    Minecraft. Were dealing with blocks.
Gee i wonder what the difference is >_>

Minecraft also has physics, ai, graphics, draw detail, animations, and so on. They're less complex, but that doesn't make them simple. However, Minecraft also has procedurally generated terrain and - more impressively - it has to keep track of where several million blocks are at any given time. Minecraft is actually one of the most technically impressive games on the market today; if it had next-gen quality graphics on top of everything else that it's doing, no modern PC would be able to run it.

Bugfixing any game - even a simple one - is time consuming and difficult, especially with a small team. And Minecraft isn't a simple game.
