Aug 29, 2011biggus_diggus posted a message on PAX - 1.8 Game Features!Bah, all the noobs are getting excited about 1.8... The new biomes and world gen is long overdue, the NPC Villages are trash, the giant mushrooms and other random features are worthless, the combat improvements are stupid because PVP will inevitably suck in a game like Minecraft. Ultimately Minecraft has become all but one of the lamest attempts to engineer an RPG-style experience from what should only be a simple, sandbox-style game, as the game will always be held back by the limitations of Java and Mojang's senseless development decisions. The gameplay experience simply isn't enough to engage a serious gamer for more than a couple months, and a million of Notch's updates won't change that. Good riddance, Minecraft (and Notch).Posted in: News

XVIII Century = 18th century = 1700's.
I'm not sure how much it actually looks 1700's-ish though... -

Jul 8, 2011biggus_diggus posted a message on 1.8 Updates: Bow MechanicsThis should mean nothing to do with a crossbow, especially since most crossbows are mechanically cranked (as opposed to being drawn by hand, which is where the variable power comes in). IMO all this focus on refining the combat system would be better suited adding other new content and changing other aspects of the game, but at least it's not Notch implementing a sucky version of a great mod...Posted in: News

Why someone would want to run Millenaire and MoreCreeps at the same time, I have no idea... One is a reasonably realistic historical village simulator, and another is a "let's just put random **** I think of while on drugs in the game" mod... Seems like a conflict of interest, but hey, who am I to judge?
The mods I always run are (along with modding utilities):
SPC and TMI (although I only use them on some worlds)
Millenaire
Zan's Minimap
WildGrass collection (Tall Grass just doesn't do it for me)
and sometimes the following:
Airship Mod
Somnia
Minecraft Enhanced
NatureOverhaul
Mo' Creatures and Humans+ (although I heavily configure both)
and a couple of other smaller ones like Pistons.
This gives me a relative balance of keeping anachronistic mods out, but also still making the Minecraft experience much richer. I haven't really had any compatibility issues either, other than mobs from one mod attacking those from another, but that's not either mod's fault.

Yeah, that's right, I snipped your whole post. But anyway, although you're right that it's a bit anachronistic, I could tell it was supposed to be the Globe Theater just by looking at the pictures, which probably means you did a pretty damn good job. It's unfortunate because we have these building tools, but the early medieval era, including in Normandy, was never quite known for any iconic monumental structures, aside from grand cathedrals maybe, so all of us aspiring designers have to take a couple historical liberties.

^^^^^^^This. No offense to anyone but I think the Charlotte Mod is kinda a joke and I'd hate to see this mod head in that direction, although I'm sure that Kinniken would find a way to do a good job of it if he did pursue such a feature.
I know Oblivion might be many of you kids' first classic fantasy rpg, but not everything has to be compared to it, especially this, considering it's very different and the village-wide reputation feature in this mod is already arguably more complex than Oblivion's system where you play some stupid mini-game with individual NPC's. Don't get me wrong, I like Oblivion and I love Elder Scrolls, but the persuasion system in that game sucked, if that's what you're going for in the comparison...

Yeah, I guess you're right. I hadn't even thought about that, but hey, you're right- it's not that bad. :biggrin.gif:

How did you hear about us? Nobody referred me, just did some searching myself.

I was hoping the same thing. It would be criminal for many of the other "popular" modders to get it before him.

NeilZar has been a member of the Millenaire community for one of the longest times out of anyone, as far as I remember, so you could go a little easy on him...
Anyway, I'm really excited about the update if/when it works correctly, and hopefully beds are soon to follow!

Why do you want to join: After playing on a couple more typical SMP servers, I'm looking for something different- a server where people take it a bit more seriously, and are a bit more mature, etc. but that still has all the useful plugins. I'm also looking for a server in which to initiate my Minas Tirith project. This is something I have been planning for a while, and, although- since I'm new to the server- access to the resources needed would be limited, I am very intent on seeing this project to completion. Right now, I am working on a to scale plan of the city.

Name: Strider
IC Age: 25
Race: Human
Profession: Explorer
Background: Mystery surrounds the one they call "Strider". He is known to be one of the "Grey Company", a legendary band of rangers supposedly hailing from the wilderness bordering the Northern Wastes. His appearance matches this rogue-like description but his manner does not, and it is rumored that he possesses royal blood. However, he seems quite content living the life of a rogue explorer at the moment, but perhaps the forces of evil will coax out his true nature and finally lead him to claim what has always been his destiny.
