Hey, I don't normally put on suggestions, but something I'd like to see would be in-game mailboxes. It would give papyrus paper a use other than just making books, and a mail box to put messages into would be handy not only for role-playing purposes but simple game management or discussion. Especially useful if you share a server with one or more people, but you are rarely on at the same time.
Also, no locking or message protection schemes. If players want to encipher their messages, they can figure out their own code systems themselves by hand.
Maybe they don't have to be mailboxes, but being able to place a written message in somebody's chest (or hide a message in their furnace or dispenser) would be really handy. The letters could even work like the Sign Editing Interface, although allowing more characters. Writing long letters would require multiple sheets of paper, and paper could be reused.
Useful? Dumb? With IRL e-mail it doesn't seem that important, and yet there are a lot of people who just don't check their e-mail, or don't use facebook/etcetera. Something to ponder
also works, though you will have to restart any other java apps you might be using.
Although, this isn't the most graceful solution, I'm sure there's a way to send a stop signal to the java process another way...
EDIT: You can also stop a server with a simple /stop command while logged in as a player with OP privileges. Much safer way to stop the server, although if you're like me, you prefer playing without OP privileges, then you'll just have to use the kill commands, which may in some cases result in slightly messed up save files.
Instead of making a request thread, you should look for people who have made mods, and ask them how they did it. I would also suggest studying java programming, and how to insert your own code into .jar files.
I'm sure you'll find there's more than one way to skin a creeper.
I pretty much just use the words "iron" and "steel" interchangeably while playing Minecraft. Since as far as the game goes, steel pretty much is just made of iron and nothing else.
That's the question, is how loyal to the original you want your replica to be. You can take some artistic license to change/add different aesthetic features. Should plenty of places where red stone circuits work great, though. The puzzles and challenges that are more enemy-based will be more difficult to implement, though.
I once "improved" a bridge by hiding tnt blocks underneath it at regular intervals. In the middle of the bridge I had hidden a button linking to the tnt, and a sign reading "Do not press the button". Now it's only a matter of time.
Although, it was my own bridge, so I guess it's more of a self-grief. But the trap has been laid...
When the fix comes, if it turns out to be necessary to remove your Nether file, then Notch will tell us. But I don't think it will actually be necessary. The problem has to do with the way portals are mapped to eachother, and Notch may still change that again until he's satisfied.
So yeah, don't delete your Nether yet, and stay tuned.
Also, each realm would have his rare gem : Ruby for fire, Saphire for Water, Topaz for Air and Emerald for earth. They would have the same durability of diamond when used to craft tool, weapon or armor, but they would also give an elemental property. So a ruby sword would have a fire property and would do extra damage to kraken and an emerald suit of armor would absorb more damage from rock throwed by golems. I don't think elemental tools would have any use, beside faster mining from an opposed element pickaxe. Combining 9 gems would give a block of those gems and combining one of each block of gem with a diamond block would create an rainbow block that would make indestructible tools and weapon when used for crafting (or almost unbreakable).
It's all that come in my mind for the moment. Hope you enjoy :tongue.gif:
This has interesting implications for PvP combat, as well. Maybe a sort of four-way paper-scissors-rock type of deal. Although, Minecraft definitely doesn't need to turn into Pokemon.
Valve games get patched pretty frequently.
Valve released alien swarm
key word here being released. This is still pre-release. Alphas don't get "released", they get "opened". Like I said before, if you don't like it, then wait until it's out of alpha.
I don't get why people do complain about it being unfinished. Nobody made them pre-purchase it. I was a loyal Dwarf Fortress fan, before it went to the new DF2010 version. Lots of things were broken, so I went to Minecraft. I'm still having fun with Minecraft, but if I got bored or annoyed with the bugs, then I'd just switch back to DF (which I kind of have off and on) or another game, and come back later.
Yeah, it is alpha. Alpha is the feature-adding stage, beta is the bug-fixing stage. If that is somehow an invalid argument, then I wouldn't mind seeing the whiners leave.
How about this:
Adding the features from single player into multiplayer.
Amazing thought right?
They are added. Make a portal in SMP lately? Yeah, cool. Did it work? No. Oh well. Go back to playing Halo or something, maybe even get a life, then come back in a couple of months. You've already bought Minecraft forever.

Unfortunately, the trolls will stay and find something else to pretend to complain about.
When threads about bugs like this crop up in the singleplayer forum, they are quickly and mercilessly shot down. Par example: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=79966
