This is probably a newbie question, but in my survival world I linked up 2 nether portals in the nether with a rail system. In either end I got 3 powered rails and a button on a block to activate it Now the problem is when the cart reaches either end it doesn't stop, it just zooms right back the way it came.
What I intended was that the cart drives to the end and stops, and I could then press the button and go back.
While your idea is pretty interesting, I'm not sure it would work practically, I mean, when I'm in survival I normally have at least a half stack of diamonds and 2 stacks of iron ingots before I even see my first emerald. I suppose if you spawn near a village, or find a village with a couple of farmers you could have a steady stream of emeralds fairly fast.
Will you follow the rules?: Yes, the rules are part of why I apply.
Why do you want to join this server?: I'm looking for people to play and joke around with.
Do you have a YouTube or Twitch channel?: No (not yet at least)
What sort of player are you? (Builder/Minner/PVPer/etc): Builder/miner/explorer. - don't like pvp
How long have you been playing Minecraft?: only about a year
Do you have any other multiplayer games?: Eve online, Diablo 2/3 - but these days I only play Minecraft.
Anything else you would like to add: I'm a helpful and good natured guy, I'm very much against griefing and stealing, but I quite like the odd innocent prank, with people who are ok with that sort of thing. I'm thinking pranks like they pull on Hermitcraft, that sort of thing.
I was really lucky and found a zombie spawner very close to where I was planning to build my base and I wanted to do the old water elevator mob farm, BUT I haven't got any soul sand, so I figured I'd do a mob dropper where thy're transported by water to a 23 block drop so I can finish them off under ground. And well the problem is that they get transported as they're supposed to, but they don't drop off the edge. I tried a variation where the water flowed down the pit and they flowed with it, but at full HP. Any ideas?
I was thinking of making a sort of crafting platform with some 9x9 crafting rooms for blacksmith/weaponsmith/toolsmith, and then some other form of crafting room for cleric/cartographer/librarian, probably just a library really. And of course a stable and some farms with farmer/butcher/fletcher/Sheperd, not quite sure how to incorporate those yet, but I'll figure it out. I'm not that interested in the rest of the crafters.
I hadn't thought about the contrast at all, I think you saved me a bunch of time, thanks.
I reckon I'll "just" build it on a plain, maybe with a mountain on one side and jungle on the other. And as far as storage goes I was thinking og making the castle sort of like 2 story houses where the back wall is the outer wall and made out of stone/stonebrick/cobble/andesite and the rest of the houses wood/stonemix/terracotta, and just make one of the buildings a storage building. Or just a dungeon as you suggest.
New'ish player here, been playing for about 9 months. I've picked up a bunch of build tips from various youtubers and I feel like I'm now ready to build a proper huge medieval castle in survival, not just a cobblestone block with towers.
Now my issue is I'd like to build it on a mountain, and I've found a seed I like, the problem is that it's gravel mountains, will that prove to be an issue? also will I get tired of walking up/down the mountain till I manage to get a water elevator?
I've spent hours fiddling with graphics settings, turned shaders/texture pack off and then played around with video settings. Then turned shaders and texture packs back on and done the same, and it just made no difference. I even went and got Windows 10 for the anti aliasing.
I feel you man, those Hoglins pop up absolutely everywhere, usually always behind me and yeet me into lava, and that's even if I take precautions and do some walls every 30 or so blocks. I haven't even been into a fortress or anything yet as I just avoid the nether like the plague in 1.16.
I'm currently in the process of building a pretty big medieval inspired castle, a village with about 10 professions (followin Mythical Sausage's build guides) and planning to wall it all in and go kidnap a bunch of villagers. I have 2 villages close to my home location.
It's taking a lot of time, but I expect having my own village that I've built and decorated to walk around in will give a whole new aspect to the game.

if you make every other floor block a bottom slab spiders wont spawn like:
FSFSFSFSFS
SFSFSFSFSF
FSFSFSFSFS
SFSFSFSFSF
F= floor
S= Slab
viewed from above
of course this will also cut your creeper spawn in half.

Yea I see your point and why it would work for you, I'm just not sure it would for me, but hey, that's no reason why it shouldn't be implemented.

weird, in my last survival world with a looting III sword I got roughly a wither skull per 10-12 skeletons

I love this idea, and I also agree with 9 rotten flesh = 1 leather.
