((I'm sorry for how long it's been - I can't say this won't happen again, but hopefully not too often.))

Leif shook himself awake and quickly got out of the bed. He felt his dagger, still sheathed to his waist. Evidently, he had forgotten to remove it before sleeping. His sword, however, rested against the wall. He moved towards it and picked it up. Despite the darkness, it seemed to shine brightly. Too brightly for fire, but there was no other light which could reach it. His tired mind shrugged off the obscure observation and secured his sword against his belt. He walked out of the room, and reflexively threw out his limb with the finely crafted dagger inside.

The dazed old man standing in front of him jolted backwards, stumbling away. Leif quickly sheathed the weapon and continued on his way. He was on edge, but that was to be expected. This was his first mission during which he was in command. He was expected to be nervous. But no! He was a Garlant. He was exceptional. He was brave. He couldn't be nervous. However, he could be alert. Yes, that was what him. Alert and ready to begin the day.

((Sorry I missed this for so long. I think this summer will be nice, the extra hour really does help.))
Karthra woke up. Fresh and clean, she had slept well, and the smell of flowers drifted in from the cracked window. She was beautiful, her clean blonde hair fell on her slight shoulders as she stretched out and sat up. But the working girl didn't stop to stare for long. She simply lay the fresh blankets down by the door and left, who knew how much longer her brother would tolerate her being there. The litle girl wished she had blonde hair as she left. She knew she needed to get home and find a warmer outfit, a cold wind had started to drift down from the moors to the north east.

Karthra was aware of the little girl, but never addressed her. Just bringing blankets, nothing else.

She became aware that she was still in her nightgown, and that a chill was drifting in from the cracked window. It was much to cold for that, she decided, and got up from the warm bed. She found her white pants sitting on the floor beside the bed, where she had left them before. Oh pants, what a wonderful thing. They allowed for such movement, such flexibility.Shcot women were really missing out. Once dressed, she slipped on her cloak and went outside, were she spotted Leif. She began to walk over to him, hoping he had gotten a little bit of rest at least.

"Good Morning Commander! Anything out of the ordinary?"

((Yeah, Firewave seems to be gone. We can go ahead.))

Ardin waited until the growling beast left, then rolled over and slept. He would have a harder time tomorrow than he knew.

    ---

Karthra entered the bathing rooms. They were located outside the inn, between the doors that lead to rooms, in a sort of miniature vila. She valued being clean, and the schot countryside was filthy. The small wooden room had a stove on which to heat water, a stone basin and a bucket of water. On the shelves there was soap, a razor and some sort of sponge she could only assume was imported.

Warming up the water, Karthra listened. One hardly had to watch the area to be on watch, and with the washrooms just outside the regular rooms she would easily hear someone enter their room as all the doors had bells.

She started washing her hair, then discovered there had been several burs in it. These little spike balls came from plants and clung to any surface they could. Removing them was a pain, but she managed.

After the two hours had passed, she got dressed and headed back. After walking Leif with a nudge she went to bed without a word. She was exhausted.

((Hoping for word from The General entered the log cabin styled manor. The main room in front of him was adorned with a great fireplace, setting chairs and a bear skin rug. He knew the latter well. It was the Bear of Kliensberg.

The small village to the south, Kliensberg, had been under attack for weeks by this large male bear. When standing on his hind legs, the bear had been fourteen feet tall. The beast killed livestock, raided crops and broke into homes, killing families. Parties of warriors, some on horseback, had attempted to kill the bear. He tossed the swordsmen aside and bowled over the horsemen and their mounts. It was as if the village had been besieged. That was, until the Alchemist arrived. Using his engineering skills, he employed hunting dogs to fight and lure out the bear, and then, using a great ballista, killed the giant beast as it charged him. The Alchemist was the man who had met him at the door.

    "Well, Ara-"

"You will address me as General."

"Yes General. What can I do for you."

"You recall young Karthra don't you?" Arant inquired.

    "But of course."

"And do you know of commander Leif?"

"Yes, he was promising. I think he may be a great leader, despite being of the new generation."

"Fine, fine. I need some special weapons to send them. I told Karthra I would send more supplies halfway through their trip. Once she sends word, we will send them. Are the weapons I requested ready?"

"The fire powder based ones? Of course. They are ready to be unleashed upon the savages of the south"

    "Excellent..."

Aside from ourselves? Leif thought, but he dared not say this. As a leader, he needed to show far more competence. His attitude had to be completely serious, and when he did joke, that joke had to be very impressive. So instead of his joke, he formed a sentence of more serious nature, and he spoke this sentence.

"I do not see clearly how our acquaintances will act, but this Kyle has aroused my suspicion, and with the suspicion of one, many others whom the light does not shine upon directly become suspects in their own right. I believe simply that chances should not be taken when risks include the lives of those who matter to the Garlant cause." His words were crisp, his voice monotonous.

Finally the two reached the inn. It was a respectable establishment, and in the midnight's light were shining countless fires, each producing its own warm light that welcomed the night travellers. Leif stopped very close to the entrance, and he turned to face Karthra, so they could speak in hushed whispers without unfriendly ears seizing their messages.

"I agree commander, I'll take first watch." Karthra said, still wet and dirty. "And that way I'll have a chance to clean up." She realized Leif was acting odd. Almost as if he was putting up a front to hide what he really wanted to say. But, she disregarded this.

Ardin nodded off, but was promptly awoken. There was a growl from the woods. He leaned over and tried to shake his companion to get his full attention. Something was stalking the camp...

Titanis whirled around, knocking over a tree in the proces. Giant Crocodylomorphs had that problem with their tails. Moonfire was on his head, and noticed the others. "Red!" She called out. "Nigel!" She hopped off, landing lightly on her feet. She darted forward into the confusion, leaving a even more confused Titanis. He knew Red, but who was this other dinosaur who was eating the carcass? And moreover, who was Nigel?

Ranger was still scanning the area, he knew the humanoid was around somewhere. There it was, the heat signature was about 200ft away. It was a small one. He could "see" the figure based on ground vibrations. And heat from their footprints.

"No one should be out here in the alleys." He thought to himself. He started to trot in a dog like fashion. Suddenly he caught other signatures, much larger. They are approaching the smaller one. His wolf like trot morphed into a cheetah like sprint. His eyes went red as the sensors went into overdrive. The larger signatures were upon the smaller one now, obviously kicking the fallen one. 20ft and closing. The smaller one went off the scanner as it was lifted into the air. Then came back as it was thrown to the ground. He rounded the corner to where the action was.

A young Minabi girl, around 20 or so, was surrounded by a group of mixed race. She was small and looked unhealthy. The groups clothing was thuggish, while one, a Minabi, wore a fur coat and hat. He stood with a cane in his hand, the top of which was bejeweled. Ranger crouched, the risk of the girl getting hurt was to high to rush in while they had her surrounded.

((Not entirely sure if the rest of this is PG-13 by some people's standards. You've been warned.))

The Minabi thug leaned against his cane, a cigarette like object hanging from his mouth. "You already know why we doin this. You ain't made your money this week."

The woman had tears in her eyes, she looked up in fear. "You know they don't like me as much as they like the Terran girls. I'm sorry Seleb."

"You should be!" He shouted, suddenly less calm. "I take you in and this is how ya'll treat me? You think your old man would have taken better care of you? He assaulted you! Defiled you!"

"And so do you!" She cried. "You filthy hustler!"

"I'm the filthy one!? Me?!" He said. "You the one that does the deed! How many washed up drunks this week? Married men? Old Women? That's it, you can be dirty and worthless, but ain't nobody insults me! Especially not one of my girls!"

The Minabi pulled out a pistol, it was at this point time froze. Several things happened. First, the thugs raised their iron clad fists and blunt force weapons, the leader leveled his pistol, and Ranger jumped from behind the dumpster. His gun deployed onto his back in mid air, and was ready to fire when he landed. This was it, someone was going to leave dead.

((Sorry if that was a bit too dark, I edited it from an even more dark version I had written. I just figured that big cities are dirty places, not matter what planet you live on. Also, I wanted to ask if I could submit an App for my third charrie, and also ask something about deaths. If I kill one of my characters, for good, is their spot open for a new one?))

"Get sufficient food for the trip," Patroo suggested, turning as he walked away from Fellatia. He called back in a similar manner "I'll be in the more dangerous areas."

He wasn't entirely sure of what weaponry she had, but with Ranger, he doubted that she had need for any. He certainly didn't need for her to need any while she was on his ship, but he might buy her a pistol or something akin to it. Where he was going, there were plenty of pistols - among other, even less savoury products. It was essentially the black market of this portion of New Vini, except it was completely legal. It also happened to be where "Nova Vinny" made his palace.

"Oh, right then. I'll see you later." Fellatia smiled and turned. "Ranger I guess you ca-"

She was surprised he had left. Apparently he had recognized she was going to tell him to split up.

"I'm the only one in the party then." She remarked to herself. She strolled down the clean streets, noting the colorful and happy people. The smell of flowers was in the air as she approached the ground level shops.

She walked to a nearby clothes rack. There were several sundresses hanging about. Fellatia took one down and held it against her, imagining herself wearing it.

"It looks lovely M'lady." A woman said from nearby. Fellatia turned in her direction. She was young, but still a bit older than Fellatia. Her green eyes and silver skin were quite alluring and accented her white smile.

    "Do you really think so?"

"Most definitely, the pink contrasts well with your light skin. Terrans do have lovely skin."

    "Oh, well thank you!"

"You're welcome, I come here often, but I've never seen you here before," The Sharzern woman said. " Where are you from?"

"Horizon originally, but I've been, um, Traveling as of late." Fellatia smiled. She hadn't enjoyed an interaction with another organic this much in a long time. Something about the woman made her happy, she was just so kind.

"I see, Horizon is a great place to live, my late mother lived there for many years. Oh dear, you don't even know my name! I'm Ayrela."

    "I'm Fellatia."

"Fellatia, what an odd name. A beautiful odd name though. It's been a pleasure to know you." Ayrela smiled. "I know the owner of this little place well, I could get you a discount."

"Thanks, but I don't know if this is really for me. I'm looking for somthing a bit more, functional."

"I know just the thing." Ayrela smiled as she walked to another rack and, after looking it over, grabbed a leather coat. It was a brown leather, with a fur lining and a slim and durable design. "Here, try this on. It should keep an adventurer like you comfortable in space."

Fellatia slipped it on. It was surprisingly comfortable, despite the warm breeze. It would be the perfect all season coat.

"Oh, I don't know. Something like this, made of real Zika leather, it must be pricey."

"Don't worry about that." Fellatia's new friend replied. "Besides, it complements your curves perfectly."

"You don't understand, I-" Fellatia began.

"Hey, I've been there." Ayrela said smiling. "I'll take care of it."

    "I, I don't know what to say."

"Say that you'll come by and have tea with me some time."

    "I travel a lot."

"I'm not picky on times, just so it happens."

"Alright," Fellatia said. "I look forward to it."

"Great, my information is in the pocket."

The two walked to the register together, both smiling and happy. Fellatia was totally unaware of what Ranger was going through...

((No problem. Is it bad that I read "Ardin" as Arant and I didn't realize my mistake until it said "...find a place to call home again..."?))

Leif ambled in the direction of the inn, analysing Kyle's behaviour. Why is he so concerned with our well being? Leif wondered, imagining Fairlan counter-espionage efforts taking place in Sitheachdon. But if they were already here, and they knew that Leif and Karthra were at least suspectable, then why hadn't they reported them to the Sitheachdon chiefdom? They want to see what our next move is. If they are to glean information from our actions, then we must be exceedingly careful. There could be spies anywhere. Or perhaps they plan to entrap us, and then torture us for information? Leif had no idea how far from reality his thoughts had strayed, but he continued to think of counter counter-espionage manoeuvres. When would they have a greater chance to imprison us without great fanfare than when we sleep in an abode which they have given us? Deciding to inform Karthra, Leif looked to his left and noticed that Karthra had been walking far more quickly than he had; as a result, she was now just over a meter ahead of him. He quickly surpassed her pace and then matched it when he was on par with her.

"I suggest we alternate between resting and being alert, so as not to find ourselves susceptible to surprise attacks," Leif suggested, mentally reserving himself to the first shift. They were now within striking distance of the inn.
    ***
Having found nothing unusual with the soldiers' tardiness, Elizabeth had gone to what she would now claim as her room, and she set about preparing herself to sleep. There was nothing more to do that day, and all things for tomorrow had already been considered to the greatest extent possible. Therefore, her mind was calm as she lay down to rest, and she quickly fell into sleep.
((And congratulations for 101 posts in the thread!))

Karthra remained entirely calm, but still acknowledged Leif. "Have you detected a spy?"

Her Commanding Officer had proven competent, thus far, and she had no reason to doubt him. But this was sudden, and odd...

    <I>

Chelsette moved stealthily throughout the facility of the walls. Having obtained a hay hook from the stables, she now had a grappling hook. From there, she found one of the watchtowers that was built into the wall, empty. She moved up the pine stairs of the tower, the lack of light telling her that the top was indeed empty to.

From the top she could see everything. The village below, dark save for a few pubs and homes, the farms, the gardens, and, in the center, a great house. This, she decided, must belong to the Count. She hooked onto the side of the tower and began her slow decent to the ground. It would have been easier to go through a gate, but much more risky. She controlled her breathing, slowly grappling down the side, and finally, touching the ground.

With a jerk and jiggle of the rope she dislodged the hook. Winding the rope up, she continued down the narrow street.

    A sound behind her.

    Grrrr....

She turned to see a large dog had been following her, and he looked less than pleased. Chelsette crouched and held out her hand, making kissing noises. "Come on Mon petit choit."

The dog calmed down and let her pet him. He was huge, around three feet tall at the shoulder. It panted as she pet it on the head, then walked away. Chelsette was glad it hadn't barked, that would have been disaster. Continuing on the brick road, she realised just how much she hated Landon cities. The air was still and lifeless, the streets dirty and wet, nothing like her sea side home had been. But puddles were hardly the worst thing on the streets, for up ahead was a Landon guard...

((I should write for the General soon, I've just been so busy.))
