posted a message on What do you do when you lose all your stuff?

As this has happened more times than I like, usually due to some bad decision on my part, I try not to get too angry and file it away as a game/life lesson. The first time it happened I wandered away from my base looking for what I thought were some nearby cows. I got very lost, wound up getting killed by mobs in a cave, and lost everything. My young daughter at the time then began reminding me, "Don't go chasing cows." Sound advice.

Trapdoors don't stop zombies from burning in the sun!

    Not in 1.13.2 anyways.

You're right! It's been awhile, and on another world I did have to put a low ceiling over the whole pit to shade the are so they wouldn't burn. Good call.

posted a message on Tips for trapping a zombie villager?

I was in the same situation, noticing zombie villagers occasionally appearing outside of my fences. What I did was dig a pit 2x3 pit, 2 block deep, with the 2 block side along my fence. I then put in 6 trap doors, leaving them open, so the mob will walk in. You stand on your side of the fence and lure them in. The trapdoors can be closed so they don't burn up.

On my side of the fence, I dug a tunnel down with ladders and to the pit for me to be able to either kill whatever fell in, or administer the cure fo zombie villagers. I am separated from them by a a one block hole. I can then open the hole wider and let out a cured villager and out into my base.

posted a message on What have you done recently?

I came across a fossil assembly for the first time while gathering resources in an abandoned mineshaft. I mined out the matrix of the fossil, leaving it in place and articulated, and then created an exhibition hall like in a museum.

posted a message on Skeleton trap horse, a pelagic one!

I had been playing all during a day and night of rain, with plenty of lightning. Once it cleared up I stepped outside of my house to find a skeleton horse standing in my flower garden. Wow! First thing I thought was I gotta get me a leash to bring him to my stable. Then boom, he went off and was replaced by skeletons with enchanted gear riding skeleton horses. At this point I should say I didn't even know there was such a thing as a skeleton trap. I retreated quickly to a distance and picked off all four skellies, and two skelly horses remained. I pushed one slowly to my stable where he resides now with the other horses. The other skelly horse managed to walk itself over to the sheep pit and there he remains.

posted a message on Epic Minecraft FAIL!
I am always surprised when the fail comes down, and it's usually when I KNOW it's something I probably shouldn't be doing. The list of such incidences is unfortunately long and possibly instructional. The other day I was a short ride away from my base on the plains as it fell dark. I figured it wouldn't be a problem riding back in the dark over uneven terrain. But, there are holes all over the place and my mule and I fell into one, where we turned to see a nice creeper greeting us with a blast, to be followed by a creeper landing on us and finishing us off. Lost quality enchanted diamond gear, my mule and all he carried, the whole shebang. And I unwisely chose to not sleep nearby, so I had to rush like madman from another base hoping to find it all before it despawned. Two days and nights of looking for the blast hole with no success.

New rule: no riding after dark on gaping potholed plains.

posted a message on Living in a ravine: feasible?
Like others have said, it's totally doable.

I came across a ravine with a portion of abandoned mine exposed. I rebuilt the planking for a platform, and then built a house in the end portion. Once you clean it up and light it up, you can have a pretty good operation. The bonus with this one, of course, was the mineshafts, but you could easily set up mining operations. I eventually linked this ravine base with the main base with an underground railline that passes through on it's way out to my desert base.

posted a message on Great survival builds!
I've been playing in a large biome Savannah world for awhile, pre-1.8 anyway. I'm not sure if it's a great build, but it's been done all in survival.

The main house on the rise, with the back door patio area lower down. The spire in the back is my ladder to get to a xp farm high up in the clouds.

Same structure but from up on the bluff.

An idea for a water house, withthe water flowing out of the back down to the river. I might put a water wheel over that water trough.

I'm liking the look of that one also. I may steal that concept. (A whole double chest for CAKE?!!!)

Ha! It's for food in general, but something about cake as the visual clue seemed like the right thing to do. I have to say I think the carpet is what's doing it for me; it goes well with the chest and item frame colors.
