Nov 24, 2011babydoctor posted a message on Yogscast Responds To Statementehh, to be fair his response on twitter is pretty prudent. it sounds like he hasnt talked to them yet so for now ill give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he will apologize later after he's had a chance to sort things out with yogscast directly.Posted in: News

Nov 24, 2011babydoctor posted a message on Yogscast Responds To Statementwell yeah i'm not saying he should be held directly responsible for some moron DDOSing the yogscast website, exactly. but when he speaks a lot of people listen. if he didn't realize that before he sure as hell will now. someone mentioned libel earlier in this thread - it's a legitimate legal offense to ruin someone else's reputation in a way that can be demonstrated to affect their lives negatively. if someone libels a grocery store chain with false accusations, the people who stop shopping there are not the ones who get charged with libel.Posted in: News
not that i'm saying yogscast should sue. legal action sounds a bit excessive, and it's complicated by the fact that notch made minecraft in the first place. i just hope they'll work it out with notch peacefully and in private, which is what i think should've been done in the first place. it's not good to be having these kinds of confrontations in the public eye when there's so many people watching it happen. the yogscast and notch ARE all just human after all, but communities like this one are not particularly forgiving or understanding about that.
tldr who knows the full story about how the yogscast behaved at minecon besides them, we have to piece it together from bits of footage, reports from people who met them for all of 30 seconds, etc, which is likely how notch pieced it together too. but i do think notch made a big mistake by going off on them on his twitter account. -

It's not that hard to think of a way to make yourself seem more mature then someone else.
yeah. the easiest way to do this is to be more mature than someone else. -

I think the big issue here is that Tim and Lewis needs notch and minecraft but notch does not need Yogscast and Tim with Lewis. So the issue with the fans is that if you like notch and minecraft then great. You'll have a wonderful life. But if you like Yogscast and what Simon and Lewis does in minecraft, well then you also better like notch because he made that game.
:laugh.gif: why? what does this have to do with anything? like shitty people can't create anything good? have you listened to rock music lately? or beethoven for that matter?
not that notch is a shitty person, i have no clue, don't know the guy, doubt anyone here does. but also how do simon and lewis need notch and minecraft? they were around before that, pretty sure they were part of the game station and had done material with totalbiscuit among others. there's a gaming community outside minecraft you know.
anyway all that is irrelevant regarding who's in the right and who's in the wrong here. -

The statement the Yogscast came out with is what you call a nice piece of politics. They are pulling the "Ooh poor pitiful me" with some "I have no idea what your talking about" along with a little "It was all for the community". This is all just classic sweat talk people have been using for ages. I don't see what is so hard to see about that.
From what I have seen of the Yogscast, they could very easily do all of what they are accused of. In one of there videos they were at some battleship and they crossed over the barriers and almost went and sat on one of the bomb displays. (Forgive me, I could not find the video but anyone who follows the Yogscast knows EXACTLY what i'm talking about.) That is a perfect example of the immaturity they are capable of and why the accusations are not very far-fetched.
I would like to add next that the main point of the Yogcast's presentation seemed to be how terrible minecraft is and how much better the mods in there YogBox made minecraft. Even if that was not there intention, that is how it came across. And that would make any developer furious.
In the end though the only solid evidence we have is the Yogscast's past behavior which would fit every accusation attributed to them. But we must also take into account that it would make no sense for Notch to blatantly lie over something that could turn out so aggressive. No one would. Nor should we forget that it is a common courtesy that at public events, if your a looked up to figure, and there are young ones about; you hold your freaking tongue when giving a speech and speak like a respectable person instead of a dirty-mouthed sailor.
In the end the only logical explanation available, given what we know, is that the Yogscast played the part of the spoiled famous people and let some stuff slip when interacting with other minecraft fans which, in reaction, Notch got mad about and over reacted on twitter. What needs to happen is for the Yogscast to stop playing Captain Innocent and be the first to apologize. Just like when Daddy breaks up the fight at home, it is only right for whoever caused the fight to be the first to say i'm sorry.
what everyone needs to realize, and what notch likely forgot when he was posting his initial tweets, is that the yogscast are first and foremost comedians. whether you find their antics funny or not is pretty much irrelevant. i just finished watching their panel and there's nothing all that offensive about it. they did say some smart-ass things about the vanilla game, but they've been saying smart-ass things about everything they've ever done a video on (including minecraft) since they first started posting world of warcraft videos. if notch thought they were going to fly out there, stroke his ego for 30 minutes and go home, well, i have to assume then that notch has never actually watched a yogscast video and just invited them because of their promotional value. it's the same sarcastic shtick they've always done.
and most of all, they chose to highlight one of the things that make minecraft as great as it is - the endless creative possibilities. all of 3 minutes was spent actually promoting the yogbox, which in typical self-deprecating yogscast fashion, they openly admitted was just a compilation of the immense talent of other people, which was made possible by minecraft. they probably should have gone out of their way to give props to mojang at least once during the panel, but they were hardly as terrible as notch's tweets made it sound. more a social faux paus than anything, and it really should have been taken care of between notch and the yogscast privately from the start. -

Let me summarize the 4,000 youtube comments by demographic for you:
Children - **** NOTCH
Trolls/Dyslexics - **** YOGSCAST
College Goers/Young Adults - Everyone was drunk, who gives a ****?
Adults - Very mature/professional reply guys, in the absence of further evidence, I think Notch should apologize.
ADD Sufferers - WHERE DID SIMON'S BEARD GO?!
pretty much. -
Nov 23, 2011babydoctor posted a message on Yogscast Responds To Statementseems pretty reasonable to me to wait until they got back. they were no doubt exhausted, and allegedly simon was coming down with a bug. i have no idea what they'd stand to gain from "buying themselves more time." actually they probably lost a lot of subscriptions which they could have avoided by responding immediately. they probably also had an emotional reaction to being called out by notch like that and wanted to avoid having that color their response.Posted in: News
the thing is there was probably some reasonable misunderstanding and everyone makes an ass of themselves occasionally. unfortunately for notch, when he made an ass of himself this time he did it in public to everyone who reads his twitter. and unfortunately for everyone, many people on the internet are too dense to think all that through. the community response on both sides has been far, far more embarrassing than could ever come out of either notch's or the yogscasts' mouths. - To post a comment, please login.

also, hedges should occur in the desert but very brown (still-rooted tumbleweeds)

i also like the idea of there being some sort of subtle hint in the game that the world used to be populated before this blight hit - which could include most hostile spawns - and all that's left now are these scattered ruins and dungeons. something creepy like that. i've always felt like at its heart, minecraft in survival mode is an extremely creepy game.

i don't like seeing it here though. it's bizarre that such a whimsical game creates such nerd rage in its players.

seems a little cynical to me. maybe it's correct, i dunno, but i don't think notch ever intended to be pandering to such a massive audience, or to keep up any kind of professional standards. it's just the way it's turned out. if i were him i wouldn't particularly care for turning it into basically a miniature version of the corporate game development system that he left in order to work on something more fun. that's kinda why he quit, isn't it? i'm kinda jumping to that conclusion so if not, whatever, but still. i'm finding it hard to get pissed off about a $10 game taking awhile to be developed, especially when i can enjoy it while it's being developed.

yeah and also, well, how much sense can you really expect it to make when you collect from a giant exploding green penis.

anyway, notch really should've strived to get more content into this beta shift if for no other reason so that people on this forum have better things to talk about than the fact that sulfur isn't used to make tnt irl. christ sakes.
