posted a message on Help. Transparent side textures for items & clouds.
I'm having this problem too with a gun texture i made for a server. I'm currently in 1.8.1 since optifine hasn't been updated to 1.8.2 or 1.8.3, and I have yet to try either of those. I have tried 1.7.10, and the side texture worked. The hell is going on? Is there a way to update the texture so the sides work or is it stuck like that for now on?

What is the resolution of the images? They can be greater than 16x16, but the width and height have to be equal. So something like 17x16 wouldn't work.

posted a message on how to give an item an electricity effect / animation
    1. Download Gimp. It's the most popular free photoshop clone, works beautifully. Be careful, there are some pretenders that are viruses, so be sure you are downloading the right one.

    2. If you are working from an existing texture pack, go into the textures - particle folder

    3. Open the particle image with gimp. These are all the particles used in the game.

    4. I'm assuming that you want to turn the smoke particle at the top of the image into the "electricity". The problem, as you'll notice, is that the smoke is white in the image. This is because smoke is not only used for torches. It's gray/black for stuff like torches and fire, red for stuff like redstone, purple for enderchests and endermen, and so on. If I'm correct, there is nothing that turns the smoke yellow, so I'd try to find a way to use a different particle.

EDIT: I'm an idiot, sorry. Reread your post and saw that you said you were retexturing the fireball. This actually makes it a bit easier. Sort of. The fireball uses the actual fire texture animation in it's animation. So you could retexture the fire to be tons of little lightning bolts. The problem here is, for one, fire is a ***** to texture. Like I said, fire is an animation, so you have to have to texture it for every frame of the animation. Plus, there are 2 layers to the fire in most cases, so you have to animate that two. The other problem is, if you're making this for an entire texture pack, fire will now always look like that electric thing. Hope this helps.

posted a message on Splash colour not working
Hey, I'm making on a texture pack and I'm making a custom splash text. If you don't know, the splash is that bobbing text to the left on the minecraft logo on the home page. I've learned you can change the colour of that text by putting a §, followed by the number code of the colour, and then the actual text. I've seen this in other texture packs, and I saw the splash files in those texture packs. But when I do the same thing the colour doesn't change, the number is visible and the § has been changed to a question mark in a box. Like I said, I've seen the splash files in texture packs where this has worked, so there's no reason why this shouldn't. So 2 questions: What am I doing wrong, and how stupid am I? Picture:

posted a message on Changing foliage colour in 1.8 help
Hey, I'm currently making a resource pack, and I want to change the colour of things like leaves and grass. I found a lot of stuff on how to do it, but it was only before 1.8, and now they've changed it somehow. Has it been taken out? And is it only possible to see if you use a mod? If it is, I can't do it, because it's for a server. If it's any help, I'm just trying to change all the foliage colour to black and white.

posted a message on Problem with 1.7 Biome update
This isn't exactly new, these kinds of problems have been around, well, since they added trees. You can either not update, or stop complaining. If you want the new biomes, than you have to lose your builds. If you want to keep your builds, you can't have the new biomes. That's not Mojang's fault, or else they wouldn't be able to change any terrain items at all. And I'm not just talking new biomes, if they want to add more fern growth in a jungle, than they have to change the terrain.

And by the way, to clear up any confusion, this is not a suggestion for MCEdit. When it was possible to stack mobs and create custom player skulls, that wasn't possible before that update. Mojang adds something that makes it possible for MCEdit and NBTEdit to add this.

It could be useful, support :)

Very useful. And don't think I'm the only custom map maker that wants this: I met Hypixel on his server and asked him if he's going to largely use resource packs in Herobrines Origins, and he said without a doubt.

Super yes, this could be really useful.

Indeed it can. And like I said, it just adds a new aspect to custom maps, it won't change survival or creative mode in the least bit (unless that person uses MCEdit on their survival world, which that is not Mojangs problem.

posted a message on Adjustable Record Player
Now, lets get some straight right now:

    This is not something that
    can be made in survival.

So, as you know, in the latest update, with resource packs, you can change the sounds of any of the sound effects in the game. Now, this is amazing for story elements in custom maps by playing a record which you changed the sound of. However, as you also know, the farther you get away from a record player, the lower the volume of the record being played will be. Now, this would be ok if the player was in a confined space the entire time the record played, such as in Jeoffreys Chamber. However, Jeoffreys Chamber was made quickly just to show off the new resource packs right before 1.6 came out. It was never meant to be a full blown adventure map like Hypixel's Herobrines Mansion. I have just started to make adventure maps, and I do plan to have these record player messages, but I don't want to have to keep them in a confined space. Like I said before, this is NOT something that can be made in survival. A couple updates ago, you could create player skin skulls and stackable entities, using third party tools such as MCEdit or NBTExplorer. (By the way, those are not mods. If it was a mod, another player playing the map must have to download one of them. Like I said they are third party tools.) So using one of these third party tools lets make it so we can adjust record player sound, and any other sound. (I know using command blocks you can play sounds to every player, but maybe a custom map would have a aspect where you have to be in a set distance to hear a sound.)

So what do you guys think? It's not like it would immensely change gameplay, it just helps custom map makers add a new aspect to their maps, like custom player skulls.

If you guys like this suggestion, keep it alive by commenting what you think!
