I was wondering if it is possible to host a minecraft server on a standalone server like this one:

That isn't the exact one i would use but just an example of a stand alone server in my terms.
1. Would this be difficult to set up?
2. It says "No OS (operating system)" in the Desc. Would i need one for a standalone server box?
3. Would i need any other additional equipment?

Hello! I would just like to let everyone know that we are starting a Minecraft community! We will be hosting 2 servers primarily so we can see how things go on them. If things go well we will upgrade our server capacity and RAM capacity. We would like to have anyone that wants to join the community ahead of time, they should join our Teamspeak server! We will be hosting a Minecraft Factions/PVP Server, And a Tekkit Classic PVP Server. (we will try to get factions on Tekkit but as far as we know it doesn't work for 1.2.5) If we get a good amount of regular players on both servers, we will gladly take donations so we may upgrade.

Our estimated time for both servers would be about 9/21/2013. (A week from now) We will gladly accept donations ahead of time to obtain the 2 servers at an earlier date. If you wish to donate for this cause please hop on our teamspeak as said before, Contact a Server Admin, Or a Community Admin! You will obtain special Teamspeak Server tags if you do so, and in-game rewards when the servers are up.

DDoS is a denial of service attack. What it does is it sends a load of packets to your server/IP address and hopefully crashes the server.
To prevent this shut don the server for a while and he'll stop if he feels like it. This can be done by 1 person if his bandwidth (connection to the server) is stronger than the host/owners. This can also be done by many people at once and can and will lag the server and crashing it.

Try using the modloader launcher that the people from <http://www.technicpack.net/> have created, it gives you many other mods and you may select if you want them or not.

Hello, i have been trying for about 3 months now, and i just cannot seem to get a server up. I port forward correctly and enter all the right info, then i go to start my server and it shows this:

I dont have any other servers up or anything, i have tried other ports before, and same error/warning message.

I just use worldGuard, its pretty basic and easy.

You need to add you and your friends (if you have any that play yet) to the OP's.txt in you server file.
This allows you to build and take control of your server in-game.

I've did this and it still does not work for me
I have the same router and everything, did the same thing and still no luck.
Anyone know any other ports of stuff i can try?
