Water control can be used to harvest sugarcane - if you cut off the water supply for the dirt, and then cause a block update on a cane, all canes self-harvest.
However, it's easier to use a piston to shave off an upper block into a water canal. This way you don't need to replant.
A large deep ocean mob that only spawns with 15 or so water source blocks above it, looking like maybe an angler fish or wolf eel. Something that eats squid. Constantly.
Ents. An armored, neutral, slow-moving, living tree mob that spreads tall grass, turns stone into dirt/clay/gravel/sand, spawns with the biome, never despawns, and slowly self-replicates.
Try to chop it and you have an angry forest after you.
A Balrog-like giant red ghost (hitbox smaller than body) that hides under lava and emerges when seeing an intruder.
Just imagine the lava sea in the Nether suddenly come alive when you get in range.
There are several cracked versions floating around, so I can't speak for all of them, but the most common one, MinecraftSP, updates itself to the most recent official release version, so it shouldn't be more laggy. However, it sounds like you're not playing this version, because you should be able to move and turn at the same time. Or else it might just be that you don't notice yourself moving and turning due to amazing lag.
To help with lag, I highly recommend that you get the Optifine mod.
And of course I recommend that you support the game by buying it, but I understand that for some people like me that isn't an option.
For anyone intending to post a new idea: any secure vault must necessarily require you to get past a solid wall of bedrock. If there are any holes through the bedrock, even 1x1, it is possible to get to the other side.
Lava is completely irrelevant due to potions.
And about my vault: I'll upload it when it's done. That is, when the first prototype is done (Proof of Concept). After that, a proper exit mechanism has to be implemented (I know there exists one, but I can't remember it right now, will have to dig it up) and some additional reinforcements to deal with a multiplayer timed attack, for which someone posted a design, and I forgot to write it down properly, and don't have it properly memorized, sadly. Ergo: I need to do some more diggin' through this thread.
My Nether portal concept (post #1352), which you are trying to implement, has an integrated exit method.
However, due to water flow not breaking portals anymore, the user will need to place TNT for deactivating the portals on his way out.
After reading through the 20 pages that have piled up while I wasn't looking, I see that there have been 2 new promising ideas since my solve on page 69: clicking a boat as you fall in the void, and the dream door.
Let's look at the alternate entry methods.
The dream door idea, as stated, requires you to be the only person on the server, or everyone else to be in bed as well, which is unreasonable as a condition for entry. However, it may be possible to execute the concept by setting your spawn in the bed and subsequently killing yourself. If that works, the method would be:
- punch code to stop cobble generator
- explode cobble through the corners with TNT
- place bed
- sleep & get out to set spawn
- die
- reset cobble generator on the other side
- exit via unrelated exit mechanism
This vault would be withdrawal-only due to death, so it is not a solve. Also, as a withdrawal-only vault, it would be inferior to the dispenser-behind-bedrock-wall idea, due to requiring both death and resources to access.
The other alternate idea is falling out of a 1x1 bedrock tube into the void and clicking on a summoned boat on the other side as you fall. This is a very simple idea, and I'm honestly surprised it hasn't shown up earlier in this thread.
The weakness of the concept is the extreme danger to the regular end user, but this may be lessened by first throwing a pearl at the boat and then hopping into it.
Of course the boat delivery system would need stacked signs/fence gates holding up water (where applicable), and the opposite wall being out of ender pearl range.
Otherwise the idea seems solid, and I like it.
I can't pick my bread, but I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.
This is the only serious problem I have with the pack at the moment. I want the new windswept barley wheat, it's amazing, but not the grain & bread that comes with it.
I've looked on the painterly pack customizer (which is the pack I use for all my other textures), on minecraftcustomizer.net, and on the forum here, and I haven't found a foliagecolor.png that fits my desires. I'd make one myself if I had any graphics skills... So I'd like to request that somebody makes one for me, please.
The colors I want it to have in the various biomes:
Mushroom biome - white (flowers)
Swamp biome - light or dark beige, light or dark mustard, or a dark sage green (I know that the swamp biome is very problematic, so I'll accept any natural-looking color in it, but one of these would be best. What I'm most hoping for is what the painterly pack calls "silvermarch".)
Forest biome - golden yellow (as in aspen trees in the fall)
Plains biome - some kind of mustardy dark green
Desert biome - deep red-orange
Ocean biome - dark purplish red (like some red maples are colored in summer)
Taiga biome - lavender, a light purple (lilac or redbud)
Mountain biome - pink (cherry blossoms)
Tundra (snow) biome - pink
Light green is covered by birches, and dark green by pines, so there isn't need for much green on oaks.
Pistons can be used to create easy to create button toggles (a circuit that is turned on or off forever after pressing a button).

The name for that is a T flip-flop. I'm planning to use a chain of 4 of these, along with a 5-minute despawn timer, to automatically harvest a mushroom farm every 80 minutes.

The spawn room should be pitch black.
Light up surrounding caves. This is the cause of most trouble with spawning speed.
Stay at least 24 blocks away.
For a dungeon grinder:
Stay within 16 blocks.

Suspend the chickens in water over a sign, and route the space below to your collection area.
If you have trouble with any of these steps, look to youtube for a tutorial, or ask for clarification.
